  • Great value
Bought it for our new HTPC. Installed it in an ASRock Fatality B450 Gaming ITX/ac AM4 motherboard, since it supports this processor (but only 200GE, not 220GE or 240GE) right from the get go, no BIOS updates needed. Updated the BIOS to version 1.70 nevertheless. Works great. For those who are new to the AMD platform, be sure to install AMD chipset drivers first, and then Adrenalin drivers for the GPU. Don't bother with All-In-One packages, IMO. As far as the processor's performance goes, I did notice CPU usage spikes up to 70% when surfing, watching Youtube or installing software. So, don't expect too much from it. On the other hand, for occasional gaming (Rocket League tier of games, mind you) it does pretty well, I must say. I presume it will perform even better with older games (but not GTA IV, for instance - 30ish FPS with medium/barely high settings, but GTA is known to be a CPU hog, so that shouldn't suprise anyone). Hardware decoding of 4K Youtube videos works flawlessly, but it does utilize 30-60% of GPU, while CPU utilization is minimal (less than 15%). Used it with stock cooler for a few days, and it worked great even though it's installed in a pretty small In-Win IW-MS04-01 ITX case (not much room in there). Nevertheless, splurged on a Noctua NH-L9a AM4 cooler. Works even better. So, as far as CPU performance and price go (even though we paid premium price as far as 200GE goes - 61$), give it a go (especially if you can get it for 50$). Plan on replacing it with 2200G in the (near)future, though. Was too cheap to pay 35$ more for a 2200G. Nevertheless, not too shabby. Recommended. ... show more

  • One of the best first leaps in my computer building hobby
At first, I wanted to get the Ryzen 3 2200G, cause I wanted to save some money on my first build. I've wanted to build a computer for five years, so this was a good opportunity to do so. As soon as I got the parts and put everything together, everything just came to life. The CPU was fast, responsive, and everything looked so smooth. I underestimated the CPU heavily because it only had two cores, but I was very impressed with how well this CPU performs. I'm used to typing ahead of the system and having to have it catch up, I'm used to watching 480p YouTube videos and it STILL being laggy, I'm used to waiting about ten seconds to open Chrome. As soon as I built this computer powered by the Athlon, everything just became so simple. There was no "aight, lemme go grab a bottle of water from the fridge while I wait for this to open". Nope, it was just a simple click away and everything just happened right there and then, like how computers, in general, are supposed to function. Gaming wise, it's perfect for entry-level. If you pair this with a decent graphics card and get at least 8gb of system RAM (unlike me, because I have 4gb of RAM), you can get some pretty good gaming performance. It wouldn't really be anything to stay on for the rest of the system's lifespan, but it IS an option to do so. I'd recommend an AMD RX 580, a perfect amount of VRAM for the rest of your gaming needs, and it doesn't have a too bad clock speed compared to the integrated graphics. Just get a good graphics card and have at least 8GB of system ram and you're good to go. I wouldn't recommend staying on the processor too long, at least try to get a Ryzen 3 at least. Other than that, even just basic office work, the Athlon would be an absolute MUST HAVE. Even if you're just browsing the internet, you're good to go. You can even watch 4K YouTube videos, which is amazing considering I'm used to 480p. It'd be hard NOT to start on this processor. ... show more

  • Currently the best value handsdown
The AMD Athlon 200GE is a dual core processor with "Hyper threading" giving it 4-Threading capabilities. It is a capable CPU which allows you to do all everyday computing tasks such as creating and editing large documents, browsing the internet, doing research etc. Where this CPU really shines, is in the graphics processing department. This processor also allows users to play all popular modern games without the purchasing of an extra Graphics Processing Unit which is impossible with any other processor at this price point. It also allows you to play older AAA titles and even newer AAA titles at lower settings. Some of the games which can be played using this processor's graphics processing capabilities without an additional graphics card are: League of Legends Dota2 World of Warcraft Dirt Assassins Creed Rocket League ---- and many more games. The value available in this processor is un comparable. This is an AM4 socket compatible processor and can be used on any AM4 socket motherboard without needing bios updates. It also uses DDR4 RAM and can obtain the best gaming performance using Dual channel DDR4 2666 RAM. ... show more

  • Used to flash BIOS, worked like a charm
If you have an older motherboard and want to update the BIOS this is a cheap way to do so. I kept mine so I have a backup/testing CPU. I cannot recommend this for gaming or media, but it's a cheap chip that can get you started. Be careful when changing your BIOS as this will likely make it so your motherboard will only work with some Ryzen processors, not all. Read your motherboard manufacturer's guidelines. ... show more

  • Good for getting started on low budget pc gaming
Personally I used this to boot up my computer to update my bios for another cpu by ryzen but this is a really good cpu for low budget gaming and for people that are just barely getting started with gaming. I would only recommend this to people who do not have the budget to buy a higher end cpu such as some of the other ryzen products but at the same time if you are just looking to run your computer for work or searching stuff online, I would recommend this. ... show more

  • Can be overclocked on some boards, good basic CPU
This CPU comes with a cooler, is cheap, and, when overclocked, can meet the performance of a Ryzen 3 1200 (at stock clocks). I was able to overclock mine, which is a holdover for Ryzen 3, to 3.9ghz stable on the stock cooler! It stays under 70 celsius, and I pumped about 1.3875v into it to achieve this. Boots fast, lack of PCI-E lanes, but what do you expect for $50? Some boards will allow you to overclock, but it is the odd BCLK*divider*multiplier or whatever way it works on certain boards. For any casual use or office work, this CPU will do nicely, plus, with the Radeon graphics and the right boards, you can play 4K content on a 4k display at 60hz (e.g. boards with DisplayPort).@ Unlike Intel, AMD was nice enough to offer some backwards and forwards compatibility on their chipsets and sockets. Kudos to them. ... show more

  • Nice APU--great price...
I've been a fan of AMD APUs for some time. Have a few systems I built years ago running A6, A8 and A10 (7870K) APUs (all on the FM2+ socket) , all are still going strong. The system I built around the Athlon 200GE draws about 1/3 the power of the A10 7870K system, and for everything I use it for, works better than the older APUs. I have been experiencing random system freezes (once every 6 hours up time/requires a hard reset/no event log), but I think this is down to not using the latest firmware for the MoBo (GA-A320M-S2H, F22), and issues with the Linux Kernel and Raven Ridge APUs. Running Ubuntu 18.10, Patriot DDR4 2667. ... show more
