  • Elite performance for demanding gamers
Style: Processor
AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D is undoubtedly one of the best gaming processors available in 2025. With 8 cores and 16 threads, and a base frequency of 4.7 GHz that can reach up to 5.2 GHz in boost mode, this CPU offers exceptional performance in demanding titles. The addition of second-generation 3D V-Cache technology, with 96 MB of L3 cache, significantly improves latency and power efficiency, even surpassing its predecessor, the 7800X3D. In benchmark tests, the 9800X3D demonstrated superior gaming performance, outperforming direct competitors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K by up to 25%. Furthermore, its power efficiency is remarkable, with an average consumption of 98.7W in games like Starfield, maintaining optimal temperatures thanks to its improved thermal design. Although its primary focus is gaming, it also offers improvements in productivity and content creation tasks, approaching the performance of higher-end CPUs. In short, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is worth every penny for those seeking the best in gaming performance and energy efficiency. Its combination of power, innovation, and stability makes it an outstanding choice for any gaming enthusiast. ... show more

  • First AMD Chip To Revive My Kid’s PC
Style: Processor
This is my first AMD processor, and I was hesitant to jump in after sticking with other brands, but the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has me excited to transform my kid’s aging gaming rig. For years, I’ve been patching together their PC with an old CPU and a dusty GTX 1080, barely keeping it alive for their favorite games. Based on the hype and specs, this chip looks like it’ll breathe new life into that tired system like magic. The AM5 platform’s support for DDR5-5600 and PCIe 5.0 means this rig will be set for future upgrades, which is great since I’m not looking to upgrade parts every year. Setup looks straightforward with a brand-new motherboard, though I haven’t installed it yet. The only challenge with this CPU has been finding one available that is not ridiculously priced. The promised performance boost for my kid’s gaming makes it feel worth every cent, and I’m stoked to see their old PC become like new. If you’re looking to revive an older rig for gaming, this chip seems like a no-brainer. I can’t wait to get it running—you won’t want to miss out! ... show more

  • Absolute powerhouse CPU, AMD FTW
Style: Processor
Upgraded to the 9800X3D from a INTEL 13700KF, and the performance jump is insane. This chip is hands-down a monster when it comes to gaming. Paired with a 7900 XTX and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, I'm hitting 200+ FPS in D4, PoE2, at 1440p ultra settings, and consistently over 180 FPS in Doom: Dark Ages on ultra/high settings enabled. The 3D V-Cache really shines in CPU-intensive titles like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 – smooth, responsive gameplay with noticeably reduced stuttering during heavy scenes. Temps stay reasonable with a good AIO cooler (running around 70–75°C under heavy load, 45-60⁰C in less intensive gaming), and it's surprisingly power-efficient given the performance it delivers. Multitasking is also a breeze. I stream, run Discord, Chrome tabs, and game all at once with zero slowdowns. Plus, setup was plug-and-play on my Gigabyte X870 board with the latest BIOS update—super easy transition. Just make sure you update your BIOS to the recent update! If you're building a high-end gaming rig and want top-tier performance without going Threadripper or HEDT, this chip is it. AMD knocked it out of the park. No regrets. ... show more

  • As Macho Man once said, the cream rises to the top
Style: Processor
This is head and shoulders above the competition for desktop gaming cpu's on AM5 (at the time of writing this). The extra layer 2 cache is fantastic for gaming in cpu intensive games and the 9800x3d is AMD's first x3d chip that allows users to fully overclock their chip. The only other chip I would consider is the 9950x but only if you're looking at having graphic design or modeling, but I still think I'd gravitate towards this for that layer 2 cache. ... show more

  • Excellent performance
Style: Processor
I don't know if this is still relevant, but make sure you update your motherboard's bios before running your memory's XMP profile. For whatever reason, it will refuse to boot or not make it fully into Windows and reset your memory settings. Once I updated the bios everything was fine and ran flawlessly. No more hiccups or stutters in games. Much higher minimum FPS. Very satisfied with this purchase, got it at MSRP. Wouldn't recommend paying the inflated places when supply is scarce, unless money is no concern for you. ... show more

  • The BEST CPU on the market for gaming
Style: Processor
This is the best bang for your buck CPU currently on the market! I've been using it with no issues, even on a more budget-friendly motherboard. Currently, I got lucky enough with the silicon lottery, and can overclock it to a stable 5.4GHz CPU Clock Speed, while maintaining under 70C load. I also optimized the curve in my BIOS, and it pushes frames like nothing else on this world! I can't believe it performs this well with such a low power consumption, in relation to Intel's CPU competitors. ... show more
