Really awesome for small form factor workstations that don't need a discrete GPU
The Ryzen 7 8700G is one of my favorite choices for small form factor builds, especially systems like the ASRock DeskMini and DeskMeet. Its combination of strong CPU performance and integrated Radeon graphics makes it possible to build a surprisingly capable PC without needing a dedicated graphics card, which is a huge advantage when space is limited. It also keeps the overall build simple, compact, and efficient while still providing plenty of performance for everyday use and light to moderate gaming. For DeskMini and DeskMeet builds in particular, the 8700G makes a lot of sense because you're getting so much functionality from a single chip. It allows these tiny systems to remain clean and compact while still being capable enough for gaming, media, productivity, and general-purpose use. Overall, if you're putting together a small form factor system and want to maximize performance without adding a discrete GPU, the 8700G is an excellent choice and one I would readily recommend. I just recommend getting the Noctua L9A AM5 cooler for the Desk Mini builds. It makes a massive difference in noise and temps.

Last good igpu for pre-2020 win10 drivers
Runs many games comfortably at 2k resolutions (1440p) like KCDC2, etc, with modest allowances and restrictions on graphics settings. Works fine on pre-2020 win10 installs. You have to use older drivers from amd as amd stopped supporting older versions of win10 recently. However, it works. Best cpu ever for what it brings. I own 2.

Excellent
Excellent APU. It has performed better than expected for a gaming system with no dedicated GPU. As GPUs have doubled in price, the 8700G has decreased by a third. It's a good alternative if you want to game, but don't have an extra kidney to spend on a graphics card.

Who wants a gaming computer in one CPU!
With a GPU that is roughly 20% as powerful as the RTX4060Ti this is not going to get you into 4K gaming. 1080P however is a different story. The power output of this APU is roughly 4.5TFLOPS while the 4060Ti is about 22TFLOPS at FP32 and the PS5 stands in at 10.2TFLOPS. Where this APU stands out above the rest is that with a power draw at only 65 watts you can play most games at 1080P on low to mid settings and with a range of 32 to 65FPS. That being said this APU is perfect for making Sub 3L size compact computers with mini ITX motherboards on air cooling that are outstanding performers for younger kids or adults that are light gamers. Additionally if you have more than just a few kids this is a cost effective way to make multiple, "capable" computers very cheaply.

Now comes with the Wraith Stealth (65 watt) cooler; not Wraith Spire (95 watt).
Just beware: I got this CPU "sold by Amazon" in May 2026 and it has a "Wraith Stealth" (65W max) heatsink / fan, not the advertised "Wraith Spire" (95W max) cooler. The box I received is p/n 100-100001236SBX. The previous 8700G packages that came with the better Wraith Spire cooler were p/n 100-100001236BOX. Of course it's an excellent CPU (with good integrated graphics) so I'm not downrating anything.

The Most Fascinating CPU/APU/NPU That exists and that I've ever seen
I tried this in one of my motherboards and setups just to see what it could do, and I'm vastly impressed. Unfortunately the motherboard that I got for it was dead on arrival. However, I have several other motherboards I was able to test it with. I temporarily built a machine with Bazzite two run Steam games off of without a GPU and without having to worry about windows. This is a truly incredible processor and pumps out. Amazing numbers for 1080P with FSR capabilities for upscaling. It runs most modern games at low medium settings, and a lot of the games that we love to go back to at medium to higher settings. FSR can make a heck of a difference as well. This is perfect if you want to make a small form factor. Bazite Linux steam box. I plan on gifting it to a family in need once I get the motherboard situation work out. I tested it in my personal rig. This is incredible, I would give it five stars if it was just a little less expensive. Even though it's an incredible APU with a neural processing unit, it only supports PCI Gen 4 x16 for a GPU, and most people will use it as a temporary solution. It doesn't have enough compute units to use co-pilot, but then again I don't want to use copiolent. It's highly stable and I was able to get it to run at 7200 MT/S RAM DDR5 I'm my personal PC that gave it one heck of an FPS boost. This is a really neat piece of technology that just needs to be a little less expensive for what it is. It's a.m. 5 so it's super easy to install, and I had no issues with getting it to maintain stability in gaming or with timing's. Highly stable, super unique technology. Quite genuinely the fastest igpu on a desktop CPU and a one-of-a-kind APU. There's nothing like this out there. I highly recommend this even just for the tech heads to play with. There's some cool AI thinks you can do on Linux with it as well.

AMD processors are numebr one in my book.
AMD processors always work and they work great. I had purchased an Intel I-9 processor and it failed within a few weeks. Try to get a replacement from Intel then tell me how far you get. I gave up trying. But suffice it to say I will not be purchasing any more Intel processors. AMD processors are now my "go to" processor whenever I build a new system.
