    • Fast, modern AM5 Ryzen CPU capable of running windows 11. Mixed results, 1 out of 2 was not working
Fast, modern AM5 Ryzen CPU capable of running windows 11. The F indicates there is no built in graphics, AMD makes this for the Chinese market. If you plan on using a discrete graphics card, this is probably not an issue, although initial configuration can be a challenge with some motherboards. The bios may try to initialize the CPU graphics, which is not there, and you need to get into the bios setup to tell it that you want the discrete graphics card to initialize first. Compared to other similar Ryzen 7-s, this has a smaller L3 cache, probably a not critical for a desktop. Thermal envelope is 65W, that is nice for cooling and power consumption in the home. I am running it with Air cooling (BeQuiet), on the average under 45 Celsius, with a few 65-ish spikes. Bought 2 of these used, one worked, the second one would not post. I regret buying an F model used, the seller is making the return difficult, the hassle was not worth the savings ... show more

    • Not at good as the equally priced 7700
AMD’s deceptive name scheduling practice has duped me and other customers into thinking this processor is a good deal. You might see the Ryzen 7700 and 8700 and think the higher number is better, but this is not the case. The 8700 is essentially the same processor as the 7700, except for one crucial thing: the 8700 has LESS cache than the 7700, meaning the older processor is superior (especially games!) that can take advantage of the extra cache. The price is reasonable for this processor, but if your choice is between this and a roughly equal cost processor with more cache, take the extra cache. I will personally not be returning this CPU because I’m too lazy to take my machine apart again, but I felt it necessary to let the community know that AMD has tried to pass off a worse processor under a deceptive naming scheme. ... show more
