Flawless CPU upgrade with great temps and performance

Upgraded from a 5600x. Effortless installation as always with AMD. Flashed the BIOS to newest version and had new chipset drivers downloaded. Back up your primary drive beforehand folks. Also remember that changing the cpu will disable your Windows login method and you will need to sign back in with your Microsoft account password so track it down before you do the swap. After the first login you can change back to a PIN or whatever. Huge improvement in games, the smoothness is very noticeable. I only play wow, pubg and civ 5 so not the most demanding games but in wow I saw Silvermoon fps jump from 30-60 with very low settings to 150+ with graphics setting 7. Everywhere else it's 200+ fps. For the first time ever my GPU is actually being utilized at 90-100% in-game and it's finally my bottleneck! So happy I got another chance to pick up this chip and extend my am4 pc a few more years until memory prices settle. I undervolted -30 and passed Cinebench and Prime95 with max 81.9 degrees. I'm using the thermal pad that came included. My idle temp in Win 10 Pro is 36-38 and maxes around 65-70 in game. Whoever posted that review with the pic of the thermal pad all mushed up didn't read the instructions. It very clearly states if your cpu cooler mounts in such a way that can put pressure on one side unevenly to be very careful installing it so it doesn't bunch up the pad. That guy messed up and blamed the product. I couldn't be happier with the thermal pad. It was cool as a cucumber from first boot up into BIOS at 38. My -30 under volt was rock steady at full load but when the pc was woken up from idle with just the screensaver running, the pc turned off and restarted with no blue screens. I checked the Events log and found WHEA errors indicating a low voltage. CoreCycler tests revealed no stability issues at -30 or -20, however that WHEA error identified Core 3 as the culprit. I went into the BIOS and undervolted that one core to -20 while leaving the rest at -30. I also disabled the motherboard's power saving option. For my mobo it's labeled Global C-State Control. Disabling it prevents the mobo from dropping into extremely low power mode during idle and that prevents the Core 3 from having an under volt issue when waking up. These two steps seem to have solved the problem entirely but if an issue develops I'll update the review. MSI Tomahawk MAX WIFI, RADEON 6800XT, 32gb at 3200, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 tower cooler, Corsair 4000D case with Thermalright fans, Corsair RM850 PSU with Asiahorse cables. Best AM4 cpu ever made. Get it while it lasts. Edit: Solid as a rock since I adjusted under volt settings. See pic for temps using HWINFO64. Those temps are for several days of gaming, browsing, streaming and general use. My pc stays on 24/7 and never sleeps or hibernates. ... show more

Way Better Than Expected
I've been holding onto my AM4 system for about the last six years running a 3900x 12-core since day one. At the time I built this, I felt my 3900x was more than plenty good enough for my particular needs as at the time I built it, I needed more cores for multitasking and gaming wasn't a priority, but as the years passed, I've shifted more into playing games and I was quickly realizing the 3900x was becoming an issue in frame rates. Games stuttered a lot from low 1% frame rates and it got to the point it was driving me crazy. Almost to the point I didn't even want to game as much because of the stuttering. Like , the FPS wouldn't drop, but you could feel very noticeable stuttering every now and then, and honestly had me pulling my hair out trying to adjust things. Fast forward 6 years later I decided to get this and man was it a night and day difference. Going from the 3900x 12-core to this completely smoothed out my frame rates, basically eliminating any stutters on my 3060ti. It's almost really weird how it feels since I've dealt with microstutters on my 3900x and 3060 ti for a few years but I've just learned to deal with it. It does run hot as others have stated so I ended up pairing this with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin dual tower cooler and did a smidge of underclocking and now even under prime95 and occt testing, it only maxes around 83c. Gaming, I don't know exactly but it's well under 80c max for sure, and it's stable. Does it hurt to pay this price? yeah, a little. Was it worth it for my case? Absolutely! Should you buy it at this price? Hard to say, but I'm more than happy and hoping to extend my AM4 system for a while. Note: I am running an Asus X570 Plus-Wifi motherboard and had to do a bios update before installing this to be compatible. So keep that in mind to keep your old processor in for the BIOS update before installing this one. ... show more

Best AM4 upgrade.
This is the ultimate AM4 upgrade. If you're still on the AM4 platform, don't bother buying a new cpu, motherboard, and ram, just purchase this instead. Keeps up fine with modern games. Be sure to update your bios before installing, this chip requires the newest bios for most (if not all) AM4 boards. This chip runs hot, so take that into account when installing. I personally didn't like the Carbide pad, the wax didn't keep it centered during install and I opted for the traditional thermal paste after some skeptical temperature readings. Other than that, this was a great purchase and saved me some money. I'm confident this cpu will keep my PC in the modern era of gaming for years to come. ... show more

The best AM4 upgrade I could ever make. AM5/AM6 can wait for bit now!
This is the best AM4 CPU hands down. I got a +60 FPS increase in all my games, I no longer have to change settings for an hour to have a 60+ FPS experience, this is amazing. People who complaing about the temps using the Carbice Ice Pad that comes with it, performance is better with every thermal cycle, meaning that every time the PC gets hotter and cools down, the pad gets performs better. At first I had 80 degrees playing RDR2, and a week and a half later, the CPU temps never go higher than 65 degrees without overclocking and undervolting. Installation is obviously as easy as it is with other AM4 CPUs, but the price is a bit higher than I'd actually pay for this CPU, but I had to put my 5600G to rest, so for that price, the upgrade is worth it in my case. Trust me, your gameplay will be much smoother in ALL games and this CPU is very capable of 4K gaming as well. So in my opinion, get one while you can! ... show more

Huge Gaming Upgrade for AM4
I upgraded from a Ryzen 7 5700X to the 5800X3D and the difference in games is way bigger than I expected. The biggest improvement is not just the average FPS, but how much smoother games feel overall. Monster Hunter Wilds, Fortnite, and other CPU-heavy games feel noticeably more stable, especially with better 1% lows and less stutter, and even some more gpu heavy games run noticeably smoother as well. It does run hot at stock settings, so I would definitely recommend good airflow and a decent cooler. In my case, once I fixed my case fan settings and used a light undervolt/power limit, it ran much better while still keeping almost all of the performance. Even power-limited, it was still clearly faster than my 5700X in games. If you are already on AM4 and mostly care about gaming, this is honestly one of the best upgrades, if not the best upgrade you can make without replacing your motherboard and RAM. Still one of the best gaming CPUs for AM4
I’ve been using the Ryzen 7 5800X3D for gaming and it has been a great upgrade for my AM4 system. It’s definitely one of the best options you can get if you want to keep your existing AM4 motherboard and DDR4 memory instead of replacing the whole platform. Gaming performance is excellent, and the extra 3D V-Cache really makes this CPU stand out. For a gaming-focused PC, it still has plenty of performance even compared with newer CPUs. One thing I would recommend is using a decent CPU cooler. With proper cooling, I haven’t had any temperature issues during normal gaming use. Power consumption also seems reasonable considering the performance level of this processor. What I like most about the 5800X3D is that it gives an older AM4 system a very good second life. If you already have a decent AM4 motherboard, upgrading to this CPU can make a lot more sense than replacing the motherboard, RAM and CPU just to move to a newer platform. Overall, if you already have an AM4 system and your main priority is gaming, the 5800X3D is still an excellent choice. Great upgrade for 4K AM4 gaming
Even at 4K resolution, the 5800X3D still finds ways to shine! It handles 4 sticks of Corsair Vengeance C18 RAM totaling 64GB while running at 3200mhz. It can't really handle 4 sticks at 3600mhz, but thats an AMD thing honestly. Thermals? She runs hot. I used Corsair XTM70 as thermal paste. During idle the chip will sit just shy of 60C and during gaming will sit between 70C-80C. This is with a Corsair Titan 360 RX AIO with a Push-Pull fan setup; fans and pump set to balanced for AIO. Water temps sit comfortably at 31C during gaming, so while the 5800X3D is designed to run hot the AIO doesn't sweat too much! Performance - again this is at 4K: Ryzen 5800X3D, 3080TI FE w/ undervolt, 64GB RAM @ 3200mhz, 4K 60hrz main display Cyberpunk 2077 - High settings w/ Ray Tracing Medium, DLSS Performance: Minimums increased from 40fps to ~55fps. Average FPS comfortably sits at 60fps in City Center Marvel Rivals - High settings w/ Lumen settings on High, DLSS Performance: Minimums never dropping bellow 80fps w/ average fps hovering around 140fps RLCraft Dregora - Default settings w/ Complementary Shader: Locked 60fps. I can increase the render distance up to 24 chunks and still hold 60fps. At max render distance it slows down to 30fps while it's loading in chunks. GMOD Sunrust Zombie Survival - A niche game mode, sure, but a heavily single threaded game. FPS data is during heavy human vs zombie fighting with 100+ players on the server - Before as zombie: single digit FPS at worst, ~15fps at best. - Before as human: ~20fps at worst, ~40fps at best. - After as zombie: ~14fps at worst, 25fps best. - After as human: ~40fps at worst, 60+fps at best. Good CPU in a bad economy
This CPU works phenomenally. It sucks that it's as expensive as it is, I got it for 340 at the time of purchase, and over all it seems like a bad value but in this current PC economy, 340 to upgrade an AM4 system to a top tier gaming CPU that can compete with a lot of modern processors in gaming to this day, it's hard to argue. I would never recommend building a new system around it but if you're upgrading from a 3600 like me, you now have opened the doors to a whole new class of GPU you can reasonably run in your system. Installation was easy just like any other CPU except applying the thermal pad is even easier than thermal paste. The thermal pad provides great temps. I have it running with a 360mm AIO and I never get temps higher than 68c. This CPU runs perfectly with a 9070XT. It is a great combo. ... show more
