  • Upgrading fm2
Was upgrading an old pc, figured I'd give this one a shot since it was 4.1 and the cpu I had was 3.5. Guess I should've read the details. Cpu base speed is 3.5 with the possibility to reach 4.1 with overclock speeds. Works well, just not what I was hoping for.

  • First Pic was Ad. Second Pic was what was shipped and received.
The CPU was fine but the Ad made me think I was getting a Heatsink and Fan which is what you find when you open the box displayed. I happened to have several others so I used one of them but I'm a tech. Regular guy or girl would had to go out and buy heatsink and fan or order on eBay before being able to use. I would just say take a pic of what you got and don't pull a stock picture on line to use. I choose this over the other due to the pic. ... show more

  • AMD A8-6500 substitution error free and painless.
Bought the Quad Core Richland AMD A8-6500 CPU as a substitute for a A6-5400 dual core primarily because I do some photo editing and make the occasional DVD using photos and movies. The dual core A6-5400 is a bit slow at times for this task. At first I was hesitant to substitute a new CPU in my HP Pavilion P6-2327c since I was painfully aware that WIN7 and WIN8 will not allow significant hardware changes without asking for a new product key. But some research on the Internet seemed to indicate that a CPU swap would not trigger the request for a new product key. CPU arrived on time and installation was a breeze. While the CPU did come with its own fan I did not need the new fan because the fan from the older CPU was actually superior in appearance and feel. I added a small amount of thermal grease to the top of the new CPU inserted it bolted everything back down and was finished within 20 minutes tops. Turned on the machine and WIN8 booted without a hitch. Haven't tried any serious photo editing yet or DVD movie creation. Obviously the machine is zippier but haven't run any tests to see the difference in speed. Highly recommend the substitution which costs just over $100. ... show more

  • A-8 6500 Really Good 65-Watt Processor
This is a really good CPU. I have built two PC's with this processor and they are trouble free and very fast. The built in graphics processor is impressive. I am not a gamer, but playing HD movies on multiple screens is possible with this unit. For any budget builder you can put together a low cost system for about $350 with this chip. Make sure you have 8GB of memory or more to optimize performance. You will get about a 15-20% improvement over 4GB or main memory. You won't be able to build a comparable Intel unit unless you are willing to spend $500 or more. Which is why I still use AMD CPU's. For budget builds they are the best. Many of my systems are still running 5 years later & longer. If you mainly use your machine for surfing, viewing movies, photo's, & documents then this is a really impressive machine. It handles multi-tasking really well. You can have Anti-virus software scanning, and de-frag the HD and still surf without any lag. ... show more

  • Great but could be a better price
This is a great APU. The iGpu works well, I am able to play Crysis one no problem at a decent frame rate with the right settings. I wasn't expecting this system to perform that well. As for the CPU side of things, it is decent. Windows 7 will run alright if you keep it running light. With added bloat this CPU struggles a little. Honestly, when I bought this I was expecting the CPU to be better and the iGpu to be worse. I am very happy with this APU but it really should be cheaper considering it is an older part. ... show more

  • Pretty Awesome APU
I've had this APU for a couple of months so far and is Great! it runs pretty well with most games running 720p at medium to high settings. I was able to play Battlefield 4 at 720p with medium settings and only drop a couple of frames when there was some levelution happening or big explosions.

  • Check your Mobos compatibility list before buying any CPU
An upgrade for me from an A4-6300, two more cores and double the L2 cache is nice, especially for the money. I got this over the OC-able 6600 because of a) price, and b) I was never going to OC anything. It plopped right into my MSI A78-E45 motherboard and booted first time no problems. Saw a doubling of FPS in Thief benchmark and general increase in performance in most everything else. When I view/edit photos/videos things happen much faster than before and reasonably smoothly. ... show more

  • Nice upgrade with enough performance for graphics and gaming..
Motherboard died on my home built office quiet PC. Was running unlocked quad AMD X-555 with 65 watt to keep low need for cooling and power. Wanted to replace with another 65W processor with some more horsepower. This is a great processor for basic gaming and home office productivity. Also run CAD and architectural design software with this and performs extreemly well for fast rendoring. I normally build a new machine about every 2 years and have stayed with AMD for the past 10 years on home builds. ... show more
