I took this reel out of the box (very well packed) and looked it over. Once confident that it appeared correct for my intended use, I immediately voided the warranty by performing a gender change operation. I cut off the triple tap and installed a quality male plug, then chopped off the existing male plug and wired it to a magnetic switch ( POWERTEC 71354 Magnetic Switch 120V | EZ Surface Mount Box.) The mag switch feeds a heavy duty power strip and all of these parts mounted to my rolling workbench. Roll the workbench wherever I please in the shop, reel out the cord and plug it in. All tools running off the power strip are protected by the mag switch. So if the breaker trips or power goes out say while running a router or any tool with a off-on switch (rather than momentary contact) the tool will not restart when the power comes back on until the mag switch has been turned on again. It also has an emergency stop button , very handy and "anti restart" is a recent OSHA requirement in some situations. Cutting into the cord revealed what appears to be a fairly high grade wire (hard to tell) but it is 12ga w a 14ga ground with nice jacket. Works great in this configuration. Unplug the cord and it retracts nicely into the workbench.

This reel is heavy duty with nice thick 12 gauge cable and molded 3-way end. Ratcheting is a bit softer than I'm used to, but works well so far. I like the fact that the reel has 180 degrees of deflection from the bracket. This easily allows you to pull cable off center without feeling like you're fighting the reel. Cable stopper is adjustable all the way up to the 3-way end. The reel also has two rollers so you're not scraping the cable on the housing. Something to be aware of when mounting is the bracket is secured to the reel and there is very little space. However, the two pins holding the bracket on are easily removed be a screw on each side. Then you can mount the bracket separately and re-attach the reel. Also, there is a small breaker box on the cable instead of on the reel. Time will tell how well this reel will hold up. I expect to re-tension the spring at some point, but other than that I hope to have a trouble-free experience. I'll report back later on.

Well built and seems good quality. Take out 2 screws and the mounting bracket is easily removed making hanging it pretty simple. The only reason I’m dinging it is because of the circuit breaker being located on the pigtail cord going to the outlet. I do understand that if it were down on the retractable cord near the outlets it would take a beating but as with many shops my ceil is 16’. Going up there to reset a circuit breaker that incorrectly thinks its hit its 15 amps isn’t practical or safe. Shorting the pigtail and replacing the plug isn’t a big deal but… Great unit, wish they’d not added the circuit breaker.

Great value cord reel for the price. I looked a long time trying to find a 12awg reel that was a reasonable price. This producet met my expectations. It can be mounted to the wall or ceiling. Bracket swivels so it can be horizontal or vertical. We installed this in our fire station in a 15’ ceiling to drop power down to charge our trucks. That being the only con, the reset switch is on the wall side. No way to get up to the ceiling to reset it, so I removed it and installed a regular plug. I also put it in a 15amp breaker to protect it since built in protection had been removed. The stop is adjustable to any length you want to keep hanging out. Overall a great product.

Just what it sounds like, failed to retract after about 2 years, not even close to daily use, maybe used about 30 times total. Also, the latch was sometimes inoperable so it was difficult to secure. Sounds like other people have good experience, and this one was somehow defective. Took it apart, though and found several plastic pieces that transfer load had broken. Bad design, and IMO good tools should not be disposable. Also, as someone else pointed out, advertised as 12 AWG, and internal mechanism is made of 3X 14 AWG wires! Super sketchy. Would avoid and go with a more reputable brand.

Easy to install. Works great. My cords are out of the way so I am no longer tripping over them. Plus it is quick and easy to get the extension out of the way when not in use. I wish I had purchased it earlier. The only thing I didn’t like were the mounting bolts. I used some wood screws I had and it holds perfectly. I am glad I purchased it.

Not only heavy duty but quite heavy. I mounted this to the rafters in my shop near the roll-up door. I have another lighter retractable in the center of the shop but needed one I could run out the door. My shop is 40' x 30'. I also wanted the 20 amp capability for occasional light duty 110V mag wire welder. I also have a 110v, 10 ton, rolling electric firewood splitter that I move around and use just outside the shop. The unit has a very strong re-tractor function and a good holding mechanism. Highly recommend!
