  • Nice security box for the price
This drawer safe, like all similar safes, is really more of a security box than a real safe. That can also be said for safes many times more expensive, though. A burglar could take the whole safe and open it later. It includes bolts for fastening to the drawer bottom, but in most cases the entire drawer could be taken, so I probably won't even use those. For what it is, it seems sturdy and serves its purpose. It's also very easy to use. I bought it because a family member has the slightly larger model and is pleased with it. The lock has been updated so that it's more difficult to pick and the batteries seem secure. It's easy to reset the number code and the master code, which is a second number code for opening the safe. Set your code by pressing the reset button beside the batteries and enter three to eight numerals, then the # key. To reset the master or second code, press 0 twice, then the reset button, then the other code you want and the # key. It might come with a preset master code so be sure to enter two new codes of your own. To initially open the safe, remove the keyhole cover, insert one of the keys, and turn the key and the knob toward each other. Then open and insert the batteries and set both your number codes. Test before closing the safe. Directions are included. It can then be opened with either of your number codes or with the two keys in case the batteries die or you forget your codes. This fits in my nightstand drawer but is too tall to fit in my kitchen drawers. The height is about 4-5/8". The inside is large enough to hold two compact pistols, jewelry, small tablet, or similar items. The depth is reduced by the thickness of the locking mechanism on the inside of the lid, though, so thick items won't fit. This should be enough security to keep out young kids, friends of friends, or any visitors with sticky fingers or who are overly nosy. it probably won't protect things from a burglary when you're not home. The larger models will bolt to the floor or wall framing and would be a more secure, but this one conveniently fits in a drawer. I had a similar one that cost over twice as much but I like this one better so far. ... show more

  • Very decent for the price ...
Very heavy duty for its size ! Thick metal ! The door weighs quite a bit and deadbolts are secure. After the reviews, I don't even use the battery part (everyone says the battery door falls off or goes dead quick). I just use the key to unlock it. Very secure. Room inside is adequate for a handgun and ammo - I might even strip the battery part to give it more room. I would buy it again. ... show more

  • Best bang for your buck!
I looked at a lot of safes on here before settling on this one and the first thing I'll say is that your satisfaction will almost always be based on your circumstances at home and what it is you're trying to keep locked away. For me, it's my firearm; a Sig Sauer P320 compact I'm trying to keep out of the reach of my children between ages 0-5. This safe accomplishes that by a mile. It's sturdy, surprisingly roomy, given the depth of the lid *(I'm able to fit my gun, an extra magazine, a box of bullets, my pepper spray, additional magazines from my duty weapon, and various safety locks, with a little room to spare) and most importantly it's secure. Some people may want or need all the extra biometric security and all that other stuff for their valuables, but all I was looking for, was a quality lock box that can't be purposely or accidentally tampered with by small curious children. My wife and I can sleep well knowing I can get to our protection at a moment's notice while not sacrificing the safety of our little ones. So for a quick overview: It has a programable keypad that can program a code between 3-8 digits. It has a "master code" that you can also program in case you forget your other code. It's a nice touch but honestly kinda unnecessary, given the fact it also comes with two emergency keys, in case you get locked out. It has a mute mode that keeps the key pad from beeping as you enter the code. I like that a lot and lastly it has mounts to secure it to your drawer. The only real con I can come up with on the fly is that the keypad is not backlit and the battery lid is EXTREMELY flimsy. So I'd strongly suggest applying some electrical tape to the battery lid once your batteries and code are set. All in all, great product for an awesome price. If you're looking for a little extra security without breaking the bank, this is perfect. ... show more

  • Spring slip causes failure of manual open, Imax of non causes digital no open. Recommended
Hey amazon PCB electronic engineers, are you listening? I tore the safe apart to see what's causing the failure that's stated with certain reviews. (Electronic lock stops working). Well whoever designed the circuit board decided to use a if I remember correctly 300ma surface mount transistor when the solinoid takes around 500-750ma (I don't remember the exact number). Causing that transistor to probably fail and causing the lock not to open. On top of that the manual key problems that people mention. Turns out that little baby spring that is about the size of a pen spring which falls out of its holder is the culprit. I wedged a piece of paper to hold it in place and have been using the key unlock since I got it, works awesome. (At least what I'm guessing is the problem) It would cost you guys a extra .50$ to fix these issues. Please do so. Regardless I fixed them myself with a bootstrapped outboard board for the controller. I will give you guys kudos for the 10.5na current draw for the controller board giving a ridiculous battery life! Regardless I recommended this safe, its sturdy and reliable if you want to fiddle with the parts on the inside before using it. Otherwise I would not recommend it. Great price for what it is. ... show more
