I am giving this 3 stars for a few reasons. The winder is an easy 5 stars though you will need to run your yarn through something that will give it some small amount of tension other wise the cakes will be super loose And it really need a rind of tight rubber on the wider base were it contacts the cone due to the fact that when the cakes get heavy it stops moving properly. The Swift is where the majority of the issues lie. The Swift is not built as well as I would hope. While I can fix the issue I should not need to. The swift arms are not run at a 90 degree from each other. The arm ends that are wired into the hubs are not all the same length meaning that the arms open at odd angles or in a way that would break the rusted steel wire they used to wire it together. There is no washer between the wood on wood contact causing friction when you get the the swift in the right spot for the hank. Waxing with bees wax does help this. The wires twists that hold the arms on were not pressed in place and could have cause injury. The lower hooks that are meant to prevent the hank from falling just flop around when they should be glued in position. For the price its a great set and I do suggest it. Even with the issues due to the fact that they are all fixable for about a buck or two at a hardware store for some new brass wire, a couple washers and some wood glue. The arms are correctable with a band saw or coping saw and sand paper.

I just received this yarn winder as my New Year’s gift to myself. It came with easy to understand assembly instructions, both written and pictorial which help you get the beautiful wooden winder assembled in just minutes. I have never used a mechanical winder before but it was very easy to use after a quick review of one being used on YouTube. I made several cakes of yarn with a center pull in just a few minutes, much quicker and the cakes were sturdier and denser than the ones I roll by hand. My only complaint is no real directions on how to USE the thing after assembly is included nor is there a website offered for you to go to for you to learn.

I ordered this because my old yarn winder was slipping gears and not working the greatest. Thought I would try out a wooden one. I think it is beautiful and I have already caked quite a few balls. It is much quieter than my old one and moves smoothly while looking good enough I could just display it on a shelf. Quality is smooth wood and the instructions that come with it makes it easy to put together quickly. Package was well wrapped for all the pieces. Only started using it today but would highly recommend based on what I have seen so far. Smooth operation and cakes come out really nice. It was also shipped quickly and received within less than 48 hrs of placing the order late on a Friday night.
