  • Great Kindle. Ignore most of the bad reviews
Digital Storage Capacity: 16 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Ube Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
This Kindle is great. It’s lightweight, easy to hold. I love the purple and that the wake/sleep button is on the side now. If you’re wanting something that’s light, cute, and portable, go for it! I’d like to touch on some things I keep seeing in reviews. 1 - the battery life. If you’re constantly connected to WiFi, your battery will drain. I’ve had many Kindles and this has always been the case. I only ever connect mine to WiFi to download books. This is common sense. 2 - the brightness. I’ve heard some say that the brightness, even on the max level, is not enough. If that is you, you need your eyes checked. The max brightness on this thing is painful indoors. Mine is only on 3-4 even with a lamp. Additionally, if you have it on max brightness for long periods, of course the battery will drain. This happens with any device. Again, common sense. 3 - warm light is on the paperwhite. Don’t buy this and then whine that there is no warm light. 4 - no charging cord. That is life now unfortunately. It uses USB-C. Buy one. 5 - I almost agreed with the fuzzy text reviews until I realized that I had the text bolder on my previous Kindle. Easy fix. I don’t feel that any of these things are valid reasons to avoid buying this if you want it. Especially if you’re on the go. This is a nice device and MUCH faster than my 2022 basic. But remember, this is the BASIC version. If you want more than dark mode and adjustable brightness, you need to wait for the paperwhite. ... show more

  • All things considered, a worthy upgrade
Digital Storage Capacity: 16 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Ube Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
When I read about new Kindles dropping, my interest was piqued. When I saw the ube color I insta-purchased. It is such a cozy and inviting shade of purple. I smile every time I glance at it. Beyond the color, some other things that make the upgrade (from a Kindle 2022 Basic) worthwhile: 1) the flush screen is a welcome change. It looks and feels nicer than the offset screen on prior models. 2) the power button is now on the side where it should be. 3) the new version is a tad smaller and lighter than the prior incarnation, perfect for extended stretches of one handed reading. It is also noticeably faster at opening a book and seems zippier overall. 4) I have ordered the Kindle Click and can't wait for it to arrive. I used to have a Kindle Oasis with physical page buttons and liked it, but I think the Click will be even more useful for daily use in varied environments. 5) for the majority of readers, the base 16gb model is more than adequate. I have about 70 books downloaded and it takes up only 1gb. 6) while the more expensive Kindle models (Paperwhite and Colorsoft) are nice and sport some good bonus features, they are also bigger (6" vs 7" screen). For me, the small lightweight Kindle Basic is the perfect form factor. Final thoughts: this is an evolution of the Kindle, not a total redesign. It adds some really nice flair and polish to an already excellent product. I am very happy with my decision to upgrade, even though my 2022 version still works perfectly well (I am gifting it to a friend). ... show more

  • Impressed...UPDATE added, not so impressed!
Digital Storage Capacity: 16 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Ube Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
UPDATE...After using my new ube ereader, I am disappointed in Amazon. This unit does NOT hold the charge that they claim it does! The battery drains quicker than any kindle device I've ever owned and I have owned almost every single model throughout the years of their existence. I'm so glad I didn't trade in my 2024 basic kindle for this newest version. In NO WAY is this just a faulty unit as I'm reading on other sites of many complaints regarding this same issue. This is not an isolated issue. No charging box has been another major complaint. Now I am regretting this purchase. A higher price tag with a much poorer functioning unit. Before posting a rave review like I did, use your kindle for a few days or week first unlike I did. I will be holding onto my older units and not purchasing anymore kindle e readers until I absolutely have to buy one which will be YEARS as I have 4 backup units I can still rely on. The decline in quality with poor charge hold plus a big price is truly going to hurt Amazon sales. Do I still suggest buying one of these new models? NO!!! The colors are a new welcome addition but after using awhile, it all stopped there. Do better Amazon! I have stripped my 5 star rating due to the quality, poor charging hold. Just minutes use and the battery drained extremely fast! Hold onto your older kindles! Do I need another kindle when I just purchased the basic kindle in green last year? No, but the Ube was just irresistible since purple is a favorite color. All of the pictures advertising this on Amazon are a bit deceptive as their pics show this to be a lighter shade of purple which it is not. This is definitely a deeper purple. I used to be strictly a paper white fan but due to costs and the improvement in the basic models I just couldn't warrant the cost of the paper white anymore. I simply want something to read that has a decent light along with the same ppi as the PW and this fits the bill. I do wish it was an inch bigger, better yet I'd love a much larger basic unit ereader due to needing a large bold font for bad eyes. This new device surprised me as its thinner, lighter in weight which I really love. When one reads for hours they get heavy in the hand. I do love the new screen on this as well. Finally, we no longer have to deal with the power button on the bottom. One downfall is the inability to adjust the color of the lighting which does not bother me with this model. I personally cannot stand warm lighting, I prefer the white/blue cool lighting. The color tone on this model does not bother me at all. It is encased in plastic which I believe I would much prefer over the new aluminum casings. I would think aluminum would be cold to hold in my hands and scratch easily. I wouldn't own an aluminum reader without a kindle case for it. The Uber is compact and easy to carry with you. I am not happy with the jump in prices for their Kindles which means I will not be purchasing or upgrading nearly as often which means this is going to hurt sales in the long term of things. Did I need this? No. Do I regret this purchase? No!! The lighter weight is something I absolutely love along with the slim design! This basic model is all I really need. What's not to love about the new colors? Black is certainly not my color choice. I am so glad I took the plunge! I would also love the sky blue but I don't need another one. I will resist. Now I'm looking forward to the kindle click to add to this. ... show more

  • My favorite Kindle yet!
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Without Lockscreen Ads Color: Seaglass Green - Aluminum Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
The build is great, I love the new logo on the back. I love the compact size and the flush screen. I love that the color is on the front of the Kindle too. However there is light around the edges when in dark mode. And the battery life isn't the best. And for the price it should have come with a charger. ... show more

  • You shouldn’t ignore obvious flaws because they’re written out. Flaws are flaws.
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Without Lockscreen Ads Color: Seaglass Green - Aluminum Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
Is a $12 McDonald’s meal that comes without fries not flawed? If you buy a car for $40k and it doesn’t have AC, is it not flawed? It doesn’t matter if the company stated the flaws beforehand, flaws are flaws and should be complained about, especially at non-budget prices. This Kindle costs $180! There’s no reason for them not to include dirt-cheap yellow LEDs, for the lighting halo to be this bad, or for it to not be water resistant. I really wanted to like this, cause I like a lot about it. I like the size, the form factor, the premium aluminum feel, the color… but using it is just not that pleasant. The screen is very blue. I can see the front lights when I’m just casually using the kindle. It’s just not a good value for the money, and as much as I’d love to have a kindle this small and pleasant to hold, it’s just not worth it if it’s not as pleasant to read compared to far cheaper options. ... show more

  • Best Kindle yet!
Digital Storage Capacity: 16 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Ube Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
I’ve owned many Kindles over the years, and this one is by far the best. There’s hardly any page turn lag anymore, the whole device feels snappy and responsive in a way they never did before, and the size of the basic model is perfect. And the best part - they finally moved the power button to the side of the device instead of the bottom right where your pinky rests, so no more accidental shut-offs! This is the first time I didn’t go for the more expensive models like the paperwhite or Colorsoft, and I’m happy with that choice, as it’s been a joy to use and the right size to feel like a real book - so lightweight and comfortable even with a case. And it definitely didn’t hurt that it comes in that beautiful purple color this year! ... show more

  • Screen quality control issues
Digital Storage Capacity: 16 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Graphite Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
UPDATE: I did end up replacing the device that had a blurry screen issue; I haven’t even sent it in yet but have received the replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement has the same problem, just to a slightly lesser extent. Even my partner can see that the text is fuzzier - not to an extreme degree, and by no means illegible, but by enough to cause undue strain and headaches when used for longer reading sessions. I am uncertain about whether or not to keep the replacement device. My Ube model still looks great, and I’ll likely be using it primarily as a result, but two out of three devices having issues with clarity is very concerning. Even the Ube model has less sharp text than the previous Kindle Basic and even the similarly flush-screen 12th generation Kindle Paperwhite, though, so keep that in mind as you consider this purchase. As for me, at this point this whole experience has given me significant pause about my scheduled preorder for an upgraded Paperwhite. ORIGINAL REVIEW: After receiving this same product in another color (Ube) and having a positive experience, I was excited to order the Graphite model to have something in a neutral color with all the enhancements of the latest generation. While this one is similarly light and small and portable, unfortunately, the screen is noticeably blurrier than the Ube one I received less than a week ago. I knew it would be less sharp than the 2024 basic model, but it seems like some have it worse than others. I’m not even sure that I can read on this one for long periods without getting a headache, defeating the purpose of the device entirely. While it’s not so blurry as to indicate that it’s damaged, it’s enough that I’m considering a return. ... show more

  • definitely worth upgrading!
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Without Lockscreen Ads Color: Alpine Sky - Aluminum Option: Without Kindle Unlimited
i am in love with this kindle. i upgraded from my 11th gen basic and i couldn’t be happier. first, battery life. i’ve seen so many reviews criticizing the battery life and saying it drains too quickly. i have about 30/40 books that were downloaded as i set up my kindle for the first time and i lost maybe 10% battery (which is expected when downloading books). i charged it to 100%, left it idle overnight and lost 2%. if you’re downloading huge amounts of books, it will definitely drain your battery at first. you just have to give it some time. second, warm light. while there’s no warm light feature, the screen definitely feels more warm than my 11th gen. it’s especially noticable at night when i have the brightness up slightly. third, the crisp text. i’ve also seen a couple reviews saying the screen/text was less crisp or clear than the 11th gen. i personally would say the opposite; the text is so crisp it almost just looks like a book. it was an immediate thing i noticed upon opening a book because it was such a stark difference from my old kindle. fourth & last, the speed. this kindle is absolutely faster than the 11th gen. i thought it wouldn’t be as noticeable seeing as it’s only 30% faster, but it is definitely noticeable and appreciated. overall, i absolutely love this kindle. the color is gorgeous and it’s so lightweight. i love the power button being on the side. i love that the aluminum models don’t come with ads. i have no complaints! absolutely worth upgrading in my opinion! ... show more
