  • One of the best tablets for the price
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Gray Style: Fire HD 8 Plus
I already own multiple iPads and higher end Android tablets. Why did I end up buying the Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus and give it a 5 star rating? This tablet simply exceeded my expectations. I was in the market for a smaller lighter tablet to read books and manga. As good as my other tablets are, they are not easy to hold for multiple hours of reading. Holding a metal and glass tablet with a 10.6 inch screen gets tiring over a few hours. The screen on this Amazon tablet is more than adequate for reading books from the Kindle app. This is near perfect for manga since the screen size is similar to paper manga. Images and text appear nice and clear. Installing the Google Play store was easy. I need apps like Google Home, Keep, Drive, and GBoard. YouTube works just fine. My use case is rather easy to handle. I let my kids test this tablet. If it can keep up with my kids, then it can handle what I need a tablet for. When I handed this off to my kids, they just went overboard on games. They couldn't find all of the games they play in the Amazon shop store, so I'll be referencing some games from the Google Play store. Roblox is a popular app for my kids. The overall performance was good. It really depends on which game they are playing from Roblox. Piggy ran well. Broken Bones was very jittery but playable. Yeet-a-friend plays well if you disable some of the extra options for the game itself. Cookie Swirl C World is playable, but was not the smoothest. Spray Paint played well. Spider also played well. Random OBEEs splayed well. Here is the pattern I noticed with Roblox. If the game supports a large lobby, then there is a greater chance that the game runs a bit slower. I noticed that the large lobby games are running a bit slow, but my kids didn't care. They were still happily playing and winning without issues. Granny Chapter 1 and 2 play well. Gacha Life and Gacha Club ran well. Among Us ran well. They were playing more games, but I couldn't keep up with their long list. Overall, this tablet can run games well enough. It won't be as smooth as a higher end tablet, but I didn't notice any random crashes. My kids would have definitely complained about it. If you are considering this tablet for your kids to play games, you need to consider which games they are playing. Surprisingly TikTok worked well. When swiping through videos, it may take a second to load before it plays. I don't notice that issue on my other tablets. After the initial pause, the videos play well. Since reading and productivity were my main concern, it's a 5 star tablet for the price. Games are just the icing on the cake. Since I don't play them often it would not have been a concern for me. Now I have another device to hand off to my kids in those just in case situations. ... show more

  • This is one fast and easy to hold Fire Tablet.
Digital Storage Capacity: 64 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Gray Style: Fire HD 8 Plus
I purchased this Fire tablet due to its size and the price. I mainly use it for reading and listening to music. I do like the fact it's got Dolby Atmos. The screen is clear. Another good thing is the weight of the tablet. I can hold it for hours. Also, it allows for you to add an external memory up to 1TB! The external memory is an extension to use for apps. ... show more

  • Quite Lovely
Digital Storage Capacity: 32 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Gray Style: Fire HD 8 Plus
Great tablet. In all honesty, this tablet was purchased solely to replace my Sirius XM Sound Station radio. It will be used strictly to stream XM in the bedroom while sleeping. That being said, setup was very simple, took just a few minutes. It's lightweight, easy to handle. No issues with sound quality or reception either. Very responsive touch screen. This thing takes hours to charge but I get a good 9 hours out of it since it's being used just for music. Very user friendly. Still not sure how to remove unwanted apps from the homescreen but definitely recommend this tablet if you want something easy to use yet versatile. Camera quality is good, clear image. ... show more

  • It's okay (and getting better it seems)..
Digital Storage Capacity: 64 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Gray Style: Fire HD 8 Plus
Okay, I've owned a lot of fire tablets over the years, so I shouldn't have been expecting anything too great, but the way they advertise this one makes it sound like it's a cut above the rest... frankly, its performance is lackluster... I also feel like one of my oldest 7" tablets had better response, which is just sad. Otherwise, though, it does what it should. I was just expecting more in the way of overall performance and feedback. I did get the 64 GB version, which is great for space right now, but just in case, I've also installed a 256 GB micro SD card, which the tablet took with no issues at all. I dunno, maybe I should give it 4 stars, I just don't feel like it really deserves it... c'mon Amazon, get on the ball already and give us good hardware in these tablets. edit: Okay, so a little while after I left my original review I had a conversation with an Amazon rep and did some updates, now it seems better... it's still not what I'd call world-class hardware, but it's a little bit snappier, the apps load a little faster, and it seems just a little bit better overall... I haven't had a chance to test my Luna controller with it since the updates to see how that performs, but I'm feeling hopeful at least. Also, one positive that I totally forgot to mention previously is that these new Fire 8 HD+ tablets have Qi charging... or whatever type you wanna call it. Yeah, I can drop it on the same charger as what my phone uses and it will also charge, which means I can use my upright charger to recharge my tablet while watching a show on Amazon Prime, Netflix, or Funimation/Crunchyroll... that's a very nice positive that I really appreciate! On top of that, it seems to have a rather large charging space on the back, so I had position it horizontally or vertically with no issues to it charging. ... show more

  • First Good Fire Tablet for Home Management
Digital Storage Capacity: 64 GB Offer Type: Lockscreen Ad-Supported Color: Gray Style: Fire HD 8 Plus
I'm retired and with old age my vision is getting worse. So a few years ago instead of using my smartphone to run all my utility apps I started to use my 10 inch Samsung tablet. The utility apps included sonos, blink, kasa, Google home and etc. However, over the years the Samsung tablet has gotten full and slow with all my other entertainment apps. This year I decided to buy one of these inexpensive Fire tablets to try and install all my utility apps. The install went fine without any major problems and I can read everything without glasses. The Fire tablet is small and light weight; I can easily take It with me anywhere in my home, even on the roof or outside. The price was perfect, if the tablet fails or gets damaged it can quickly be replaced. Note: You can install Google Apps without having to root the Fire tablet! ... show more
