I do most of my reading in the evenings by lamp light and prefer the size of the kindle basic, but the 2024 matcha basic had such glaringly blue/white lighting that I couldn't turn the brightness up at all without getting a headache. I was expecting the newest version to have the same issue and figured I'd probably have to return it, but I'm pleasantly surprised by how much warmer the lighting is. It does not have warm light adjustment like the paper white, but I can definitely read in lowlight with the brightness up without hurting my eyes. The photos compare the Paperwhite 10, Kindle 2024, and Kindle 2026 with the brightness at 15. The Ube color is pretty. I was expecting more of a lavender but it looks closer to a medium plum color in person. The text is more crisp than the Kindle 2024 IMO. According to Amazon it has a "newly designed reverse stack display construction" which I think increases the contrast a bit. Page turns and navigating the library feel a bit faster as well. The size and form factor are perfect. It's a little smaller than the matcha, and the edges feel more rounded and comfortable to hold. Overall I'm pleasantly surprised. It was definitely worth the upgrade!

I have a 2024 kindle Colorsoft and while I love my device, as soon as I saw this kindle basic line up, I immediately ordered the blue one. I was looking for portability since I go on cruises and wanted something easy to carry with me. I love the size of this kindle (it’s the size of my hand!) and the lack of warm light does not bother me. I rarely use it on my Colorsoft. It’s a very light device, and I think it’s a bit faster in loading the library and books in general. I also got a 3 month free Kindle Unlimited upon registering the device, which was a very nice gift! (I use my local library for books). Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase!

UPDATE...After using my new ube ereader, I am disappointed in Amazon. This unit does NOT hold the charge that they claim it does! The battery drains quicker than any kindle device I've ever owned and I have owned almost every single model throughout the years of their existence. I'm so glad I didn't trade in my 2024 basic kindle for this newest version. In NO WAY is this just a faulty unit as I'm reading on other sites of many complaints regarding this same issue. This is not an isolated issue. No charging box has been another major complaint. Now I am regretting this purchase. A higher price tag with a much poorer functioning unit. Before posting a rave review like I did, use your kindle for a few days or week first unlike I did. I will be holding onto my older units and not purchasing anymore kindle e readers until I absolutely have to buy one which will be YEARS as I have 4 backup units I can still rely on. The decline in quality with poor charge hold plus a big price is truly going to hurt Amazon sales. Do I still suggest buying one of these new models? NO!!! The colors are a new welcome addition but after using awhile, it all stopped there. Do better Amazon! I have stripped my 5 star rating due to the quality, poor charging hold. Just minutes use and the battery drained extremely fast! Hold onto your older kindles! Do I need another kindle when I just purchased the basic kindle in green last year? No, but the Ube was just irresistible since purple is a favorite color. All of the pictures advertising this on Amazon are a bit deceptive as their pics show this to be a lighter shade of purple which it is not. This is definitely a deeper purple. I used to be strictly a paper white fan but due to costs and the improvement in the basic models I just couldn't warrant the cost of the paper white anymore. I simply want something to read that has a decent light along with the same ppi as the PW and this fits the bill. I do wish it was an inch bigger, better yet I'd love a much larger basic unit ereader due to needing a large bold font for bad eyes. This new device surprised me as its thinner, lighter in weight which I really love. When one reads for hours they get heavy in the hand. I do love the new screen on this as well. Finally, we no longer have to deal with the power button on the bottom. One downfall is the inability to adjust the color of the lighting which does not bother me with this model. I personally cannot stand warm lighting, I prefer the white/blue cool lighting. The color tone on this model does not bother me at all. It is encased in plastic which I believe I would much prefer over the new aluminum casings. I would think aluminum would be cold to hold in my hands and scratch easily. I wouldn't own an aluminum reader without a kindle case for it. The Uber is compact and easy to carry with you. I am not happy with the jump in prices for their Kindles which means I will not be purchasing or upgrading nearly as often which means this is going to hurt sales in the long term of things. Did I need this? No. Do I regret this purchase? No!! The lighter weight is something I absolutely love along with the slim design! This basic model is all I really need. What's not to love about the new colors? Black is certainly not my color choice. I am so glad I took the plunge! I would also love the sky blue but I don't need another one. I will resist. Now I'm looking forward to the kindle click to add to this.

The near-perfect kindle. I love having the aluminum chassis, it makes it feel more at home with my Apple tech and I’m someone that values aesthetics in that way. The color is beautiful, although I do wish they produced the Ube in aluminum as I would have gotten that one in a heartbeat. The only downsides are the lack of the warm light option and the lack of waterproofing; I understand their desire to keep some features exclusive to the Paperwhite, but at this new price point it’s time to retire the “basic” concept and transition to a Paperwhite and Paperwhite Mini concept where they’re exactly the same except for screen size.

Love the color!!! When i saw this I immediately purchased it! It’s really light and fast than the previous ones. Setting up is quick with amazon simple set up. Only downside is it claims it is 6 inches like the previous paperwhite but why does my previous case does not fit in. You have to buy the new case which cost 39$ since it’s new release. But overall it’s great!

If this had been a paperwhite instead of a basic, I would have bought the paperwhite in a heartbeat instead of the basic as a first time kindle owner. I hadn't bothered with kindles before because the paperwhite colours are just so flashy amd ugly and not cute at all. So far I'm loving the device because of how tiny and absurdly lightweight it is. Perfect for bedtime reading without having to carry something heavy as you're trying to sleep. There's no warm light which is fine by me, that being said, when you have the kindle switched to light mode when reading during the day, the e-ink screen seems super blue to me and not at all book like. It's the only thing I hate about this device. Also fair warning, they don't come with chargers!!

fantastic upgrade to the kindle line! I got the aluminum blue basic kindle and the slim case as well as the fabric case. the kindle is so nice to hold and feels very premium. I love the flush display as you get less dust and cat hair trapped that way! Love the power button being on the side and the clarity of the screen. The color is a lovely shade of blue like a glacier or something. pictures do not capture it well, much prettier in person! would recommend the fabric case if you are prone to dropping things, because the slim case is magnetic only and I don't think it would protect the device that well. I got the charcoal case and it looks ok but the ube would also look good. not sure why we don't have a blue fabric case? The new fabric case design is great with fabric edges all around almost/ no more plastic boarder! Thank you amazon! to me this alone makes the new device a huge improving!
