  • Historical fiction covering Katrina, New Orleans, Life and Love
A look back at the disaster of Katrina, the hurricane that caused the city of New Orleans to be buried under water, death, and destruction. Out of the recovery came many a story. Many others went untold. This novel of a NY photographer who heads into the stricken city while it is yet partially flooded in search of his father is an example of many heart-breaking real situations that went unrecorded. Luke didn't care much for his alcoholic father, made that way from the drug-dependency death of his mother. Her condition was a result of her own mother's death. Grief was not an easy part of life to deal with, and the small family was broken from dysfunctional behavior and death. Luke, unsure of even a desire to find his missing father, heads for the storm center's devastation in search of photos, if not answers. It is his decision to go that makes this book's 130 page Part 1. The remaining book, Part 2, is a trip you will be glad you only had to experience through reading, not the actual immediate horrific aftermath of Katrina. In this book, author Jason F. Wright paints a picture, not a pleasant one to look at, but one that we as a country must not forget. The books main character, Luke, his friends, his father, and his father's friends, are people whose lives were changed. In reading and understanding what they encountered, we can all be made a bit better and more human. It is historical fiction taking place in modern times, desperate times, NOT the best of times. It includes romance from the heart, broken hearts, and bleeding, bursting, hearts. It is a story of family, family struggles, family accomplishments, families' need to survive. You will be appalled, you will be warmed, you may cry, at times laugh, and at the end (a very surprising ending) you will be thankful. You will think, and you will think of many things to be thankful for. You may even pray. You will be touched, expect it. This author has another book out since "Recovering Charles". • Heartfelt and True
This story hit home with me because my dad was a recovering alcoholic and because we were estranged for 30 years. The story line was unique in that the answers to the son's searching were right in front of him if only he had known where to look. The clues were in putting his father's life together through the eyes of those who knew him best; and it was as much a journey for the son as for whom he was searching. Jason Wright evokes a tempest of human emotions that were and are so true in all of us. I needed this story because I related to the heart of it. Unlike the main character, I was able to make my peace before my father passed away. The insights Jason Wright brought to the story made me very grateful that I did. ... show more

  • Amazingly beautiful story...
Life and love...especially between family members is so complicated when we allow it to be. There are great lessons in this book about redemption, forgiveness, understanding and--most especially--acceptance. My O.G.T. takeaway from this book is that I have as much baggage as anyone in my life...and so, who am I to judge them? Many thanks, Jason Wright, for your wonderful book. Also, using Katrina as the backdrop for your book reminded me of the horrors and sadness as well as the heroics during those weeks following the levee breaches. God Bless New Awlins.... ... show more

  • Felt like I Was There
Crazy good book! Read until 4am this morning to finish it.... just could not put it down! I have a whole new perspective of what went on in NOLA.. This was more than just an incredible story. This is one of my Must Read Authors and this book verifies why he's on that list. The characters in this story came alive and secretly I wonder, if maybe, this could be a true story.... the people are that real. I highly recommend this! You won't be disappointed! • Katrina remembered
This book is a little strange but it captures the reader's attention and doesn't let go. Being a retired utility worker from Georgia , I can appreciate the devastation of Katrina and it's aftermath. Having a good friend from LONG beach Mississippi, and another good friend from Georgia, who was sent to help with restoration. They both have many stores to tell. Although they never made it to new Awlins. ... show more

  • Very moving.
This book was very informative regarding the hurricane but also gripping in the relationships between the characters. It was sad but didn't leave me in a state of despair. Rather, it made me want to be more caring in my own relationships. Don't ever leave things unresolved. Forgiveness is the healing answer. ... show more

  • I loved this book
I have read many of Jason Wright's books. I have loved every book he has written. "Recovering Charles" was thought provoking and moving in so many ways. The story made me reflect on my on life as I dealt with my own parent child relationships. The visuals of the flooding are very descriptive the reader is reminded visually of Katrina. ... show more

  • Good Book
as always, i like jason's books, some more than others....his books don't leave you on the edge of your seat, but they always keep you interested and in the end leave you with a life lesson....at the end of the book you are in deep thought over the character's personal situations and the way they turn out....some more surprising than others but, always making you think....keep writing jason, i loved all your books. ... show more
