For the price, you can't go wrong. I had a hard plastic carrier for years because my cat gets carsick and the plastic was easy to hose off, but after 10 years, it's started breaking down on me, so it was time for a new carrier. I was surprised to find an Amazon Basics one, but figured why not give it a shot since it got good reviews. It's a well-constructed bag; I got the large, my cat is a fatty, and I wasn't worried about the straps or anything. The nylon is pliable but strong. The double-straps are a nice touch; carry in your hand or over your shoulder, or remove the shoulder strap if you're not going to use it. There's a firm cardboard piece that goes in the bottom to keep the bag upright; a soft layer velcros on to that that can be removed and machine-washed, and there's plenty of extra room in the bag if you want to wrap towels or anything around the bottom. For my travels, I put the soft layer on, wrapped plastic shopping bags over that (2 standard plastic grocery store bags, one on each end, more than covered the whole piece), then wrapped an old towel over that. I trust the nylon not to absorb fluids, but I figured if she did get carsick, my best bet would be to just put the dirty towel in a bag and wrap the spare around the remaining stuff in there. The carrier has zipper openings at the top and the front, which is great for ease of getting the animals in and out. My cat generally won't walk into a carrier because she knows what the carrier means, but once she's in. she's fine, so being able to just plop her in from the top is nice. There's a leash hook inside, which I did actually use in the car so I could open up the front to give her some space without her flying around the car, and it seemed to work fine, she was able to lay down comfortably with it attached. There's a huge amount of mesh space on this bag, which is great if you have a claustrophobic animal. I think one of the reasons she got carsick in her old carrier was she didn't have much of a view, so she freaked herself out, so she threw up. In this carrier, I was able to open the front for her, and she could see me next to her in the driver's seat without having to peek through a tiny hole, which I think made her more comfortable. I was also able to open the top and stick my hand in to pet her, which was nice. Overall, for the price, you simply cannot beat this bag for trips around town. I admittedly only use a carrier a few times a year, so I don't need a fancy one; if I was taking an animal with me regularly or planning a long road trip, I might invest in something cushier, but for trips to the vet, groomer, or cat-sitter a few times a year, this is more than satisfactory. I read some reviews about how it runs small, so I bought the medium one, this was before I actually saw my dog in person, so it is too big for her. I don't think she'll ever grown into it, but keep in mind that I have a 10 ounce (she's 3 months old) yorkie puppy. This is a sturdy carrier for my needs, my dog tried to chew the mesh side, but let's face it, what can a tiny little rat dog do to this? Granted, if you have a heavy puppy (I would say anything significantly over 10 pounds) you might want to go for a different one. I don't think she can ever do any real damage to it, so it works in my case. I was initially going to buy the Sherpa pet carrier, but because of the price, I opted for this one. Overall I love it, I bought it specifically for air travel, but now I use it to carry my puppy every time I go on trips, and for her vet visits. Since it runs smaller than the Sherpa, the medium sized carrier fits underneath the seat of an airplane (you have to push it a little bit), so I had no trouble at the airport with this. There's a collar attachment thing in there that I wish I could remove since I really don't use it. My dog doesn't seem to have noticed it, which I'm glad because I don't want her chewing on it. The fleece bottom is detachable which makes it easy to clean, I read comments on how their pet removed it so I usually put a blanket (not that it matters because I know she doesn't have enough strength to remove it). Overall, if you have a toy breed, I would go for this product, it works and you can't really beat the price, especially if you travel a lot since it meets airplane expectations. I've had it for a about a month, so I will update in durability if things change, but overall I think this was a pretty good buy.

Excellent *time out" space for evil Devil Kitty in need of a cat excorcist. Whenever I need freedom from scratching, biting, leaping attacks, etc. , I am able to insert him into his carrier and zip it up without hurting either of us . He is satisfied to stay in there with several toys so I can finish my food or chore. I do get the 'Cat Eye" stare, but even this is less threatening due to the sturdy black mesh sides. My Tenzin is a Himalayan suffering from a strong adverse Siamese temperament defect, very handsome and smart. This soft carrier is very durable, attractive, and easy to carry while keeping Tenzin and everyone else safe. It even has a zippered opening on top so he can stick his head out and look around when we are in the car. The carrier can be carried by hand, over the shoulder, and even crossbody using the sturdy attached straps. Love it! Tenzin doesn't love it, but he doesn't hate it and he will sleep in it. He even accidentally went in it once on his own and fell asleep! I'm amazed the price was so reasonable. .one main reason I bought it. Nothing is too good for this spoiled kitty! Update: It has been in use now since last April, and I have learned that I can shake the treat bag and yell "kitty treats" and Tenzin (named in honor of the Dalai Lama) will come from anywhere and proceed to the back of the carrier including tucking his impressive long and furry tail in, as long as I have been careful to sprinkle Friskies treats toward the back. If I'm slow at zipping, I just turn the carrier on it's back end so cat and all slide that way and I get on with zipping. I am such a softie when it comes to this cat that I always use the treats to lure him in because me trying to 'stuff' Tenzin the Terrible into his kitty purse and KEEP him in there long enough to zip it is worthy of a YouTube video. I would post a photo of my hands and arms, but I can hear you saying in horror, "She let him do THAT to her!?" He's getting better, though, and he's very funny sometimes. He rolls the Cat Purse over sometimes, usually only one turn, but earlier this week he managed about three turns so he was under the pad and not happy to be there. I like that the pad is removable so it can be washed, but I also wish it was harder to remove so it would stay off Tenzin's head.

This carrier is very sturdy and worked well for my cat, who is about 12 and a half pounds. It looked a little small when it first arrived, but once I put him inside, he was actually able to lay down comfortably. I do wish it was slightly wider, and I still do feel like it’s on the small side if it’s supposed to hold 22lbs. but it still functions well and feels secure during use. The mesh allows for good airflow and visibility, which is great for pets. My cat is a big body, but this carrier is stable enough for him, the color and the design are accurate and the zipper quality seems good so far! The shoulder strap is comfortable. For the price, the quality and durability make it a really good value overall.

3 YEAR UPDATE: I can't believe I've had my kitty almost 3 years. I still have this carrier and still LOVE it. She still naps in it sometimes and she likes to jump in and out of it while playing. The carrier hasn't shown any signs of damage! It was a great buy that I highly recommend. The only drawback is that she's heavier so it's not as easy to carry her with the shoulder strap, but that's not the carrier's fault. Edited to add: It's been a few months and I still LOVE this carrier. My cat plays in it all the time and scratches at the sides but it doesn't show any sign of damage. I took her to the vet and liked how she could see her surroundings well while being secure in the carrier. I also walked to the vet and it was easy to carry using the shoulder strap. I really am very glad i bought this and my mom has one now for her cats to play in. Original review: I bought this to bring my new cat home from my mom's house, which involved a six hour car ride. I took it to my mom's and set it open on the floor, hoping the new kitty would get used to it and not be scared to go inside. Well, it was a huge hit with all 4 of the cats in the home. They took turns napping in it, and they played with each other through the mesh sides. I was a bit concerned how the mesh would hold up because the kitten seems to think it's a scratching posts, but so far it's fine. It was easy to coax her in after she had spend a few days with The carrier. The kitten didn't enjoy the long car ride and much meowing and scratching ensued, but the carrier was good and fit perfectly behind the front seats. Now we're home and ever though it's only been one day since her harrowing experience, she's already back to napping in the carrier. I guess it's her safe spot, which is great. I plan on buying another for my mom's cats because they loved the thing. I'll update of it doesn't hold up long tem, but it seems well built.

This carrier is great! It's roomy enough for a small cat or dog (though if your pet is more than 12 lbs, I suggest the next size up). It's sturdy, but light, and easy to lift and store. The shoulder strap is handy, but not overly long and the padding around the handle is comfortable even with the add weight of your pet. The mesh screen keeps your pet comfy, but is not easy to break through (granted our cats were calm enough not to claw or bite at it (you may need extra lining if your pet is really determined to bust out). I love the dual openings. The top flap is great for when I need to place my cat in or lift her out on trips to the vet or groomer, and when I'm okay with her taking her time she can walk in or out herself through the front opening. I like having a short leash built in so I can clip her harness in and know she can't run off the moment I open the cage. (You can even clip your pet's leash to them first before unclipping them from the carrier to keep pets prone to running extra safe). The fleece lined bottom is soft enough that our cats like to nap on it, and easy to remove and wash. These carriers aren't too bulky, so storage is easy, but they can't be collapsed, so you will need a fair bit of closet space to stash them in (you could always keep other per supplies inside them or just leave them out and open for your pet to sleep in. If you drape a blanket over them, these carriers make good kitty caves). I would highly recommend these. They are so much better than those awful plastic pet crates.

For a soft-sided carrier, it holds its structure well. I almost didn't buy it because I was afraid it would be too "sloppy" while carrying but it is not. Its comfortable and adjustable with two kinds of carry handles and a happy medium between a super soft and hard carrier. Time will tell if it breaks in and becomes overly soft. Otherwise, it is light, roomy, allows for good ventilation and gives your pet something to look other than the inside of the bag when they are laying inside of it. Mine likes to hang over the end of it and it is soft enough not to irritate his skin and hard enough to support his weight (5 lbs) without deforming. The interior pad is removable, washable and replaceable (in case your friend has a little accident) inside. I paid twice as much for the previous bag I had and now I feel like I was robbed. This one at half the price is twice as good as the old one. Get it, you won't regret it if you are looking for this kind of bag. UPDATE: 18 months later ... still get it. Just don't expect longevity out of it. I dropped my rating a couple of stars after having a number of issues with the construction. See attached pcitures. The shoulder strap came apart at the seams near the D ring and had to be resewn. The metal support cross bars ripped through the material (1) and I had to remove one of them (3). The carry handles and shoulder strap also got so twisted up making it hard to carry comfortably (2). All in all, I think most pet carriers are overpriced and made cheaply so for the price, this one was a better value than some others.

I was taking my 5-year-old-to-be 19lbs schnauzer to Europe for her birthday and shopping for a good travel carrier that she would actually go in and remain inside. She's a support dog so she's never been in any carrier during US domestic travels and she's been pretty much everywhere in the US. However, while she is allowed to travel in cabin w/o being inside of a carrier, she's required to have tickets when we ride trains together. The cost is about $37 a day, quite hefty. However, as long as she remains in a bag or basket then she rides for free. Before I ended up getting this carrier, i tried at least two other types from Amazon, both are the backpack type and failed. She would fight her life not going in, let along stay in. Finally, came across this crate carrier and was complete life saver, arrived really quickly and surprisingly sturdy as hell. Took about 2 tries to get her go in and quickly became comfortable with it. She would even go in on her own, waiting for treat. The crate has a very firm base and very comfy to sit in. It’s very lightweight and spacious to use as a travel bag when she doesn’t need to be inside. So I ended up using it as my overnighter a lot on this trip. I ran into people at the airport carrying exactly the same bag. This thing rocks, and way underpriced. I paid $28 for it and I believe it should’ve been double the cost considering the material and quality of this bag. Highly recommended.
