These smart plugs are about as straightforward as it gets. Setup was quick — I plugged them in, opened the Alexa app, and they were ready to go within minutes. Adding them to Alexa is so simple that I honestly wish Amazon had made these sooner. I’ve collected a mix of different smart plugs over the years, and these make me want to replace them all just for consistency. The connectivity has been great. Unlike some other brands I’ve tried that drop out every so often, these have stayed connected without issues. These work great with Alexa . Option was to rewire the 3 way hallway light switches which for some reason stopped working or wire the light to an outlet and connect it to the plug . An Alexa only “basic” smart plug. A breeze to set up as once you plug one in, it automatically looks for Alexa and guides you through the setup. I didn’t like the fact you have to name the location AND the plug because Alexa seems to want to rename the plug as the location for some reason. Alexa has also been fussy about the name. I named one “Lamps” and it usually won’t respond unless it hears the plural. If I say “Alexa, turn on the Lamp it ignores me or wants to troubleshoot the problem. So any problems seem to be Alexa or user related versus a problem with the smart plugs.

Clumsy setup, took multiple tries then had to manually input my wifi network info in. But once they each connected, the process was perfect, working by voice command with my echo devices and Alexa app. My previous smart plugs made a clicking sound when they turned on and off and these are completely silent. Great value for 4 plugs. In case anyone else is having setup issues, when my network didn't show up in the list I choose Manual>WAN>then input the name and password, then it all fell into place.

This is my review of Amazon’s Smart Plugs (2 pack) I have been using “smart” devices for a long time, and still remember all the hoops you had to jump through to get them to work properly. These plugs, only work with Alexa devices, and are as close to plug-and-play as it gets. When I ordered them, I had the option to set them up before they were delivered. I did, and when I received them and plugged them in, they were ready to go. One of the plugs, I use with a lamp that I turn on/off with voice commands, and the other, I use with a routine I wrote that turns on lights 1/2 hour before sundown, and turns them off 1/2 hour after sunrise. They work with a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi, and although you might have a newer wireless router, most allow use at this setting. In addition, they are controlled though the Alexa app, and no other software or hubs are required. After several months, they are working without any problems. Good reliable plugs, that are easy set up. I plan on picking up a few more.

These plugs are a godsend! Our housekeeper messed with a light working thru a “smart plug” I tried mightily to restore it on the old smart plug and its associated app. No deal. I wanted to get some more smart plugs any way, so I bought these Amazon ones that claimed to be easy to set up. They were. I put in the plug in preparation to connect to Alexa, and a signal appeared on my iPad that a new device was recognized. I just had to name it in the Alexa app, and bingo. The price was great, and the light worked straightaway. Should get a 10!

The product works but it was exceedingly difficult to set up. We have several Amazon smart plugs already that work with Alexa and were easy to set up. The issue with setup seems to be related to a glitch in the Amazon Alexa app. You have to be able to scan a code that is similar to a QR code to help the device sing to the Wi-Fi network that your Amazon Alexa devices are on. However, no matter what we tried (including on installing and reinstalling the app and updating all of the permissions for camera and other options), the app would not open a camera screen to scan the code. When we used the setup option without the code, the devices were never found on the network even though we could see the blinking setup light. The app would frequently recognize that a device was present in set up your new smart plug device here, and then would freeze in the middle of the connection. Eventually we were able to circumvent the process by selecting " other" as the brand instead of an Amazon product. We've never had that much trouble with any of our Alexa linked products and I would not purchase this again. Short answer, they function but were not easy to set up. If you're tech unsavvy beware.
