It took 30 seconds to set it up and you can have your virtual assistant turning lamps off and on, or running a routine that you design. There are the original Amazon smart plugs, which are kind of expensive, but these Amazon basics are just as good and a bit slimmer than the older models. Fast and easy connection to my Eero 7. Alexa app picked it right up. The plug is just 20 feet away from my router with 2 walls separating it, and is in the same room as my echo, TP-Link plug and a smart vacuum. However, the plug drops connection every couple of days. Never happens to the other devices in the room. Just have to reset it

My goal was to get four lamps in my home connected to Alexa using voice controls. First I purchased four smart bulbs. The process was complex and required me to download a proprietary app on my phone and even then I had no success pairing the bulbs with Alexa so that I could control my lamps by voice command through Alexa. I returned the so-called smart bulbs and purchased four Amazon Basic smart plugs instead. What a difference! These smart plugs are simple to install and intuitive. You plug them into a wall socket and they pair with Alexa seamlessly. They are designed solely to be used with Alexa and no complicated and unreliable additional software is needed unlike the smart bulbs. Just plug them into a wall socket and they start pairing with your Alexa app and 30 seconds later you are connected. They are a simple, elegant, reliable solution for anyone who wants to control their lighting (and presumably any other electrical device) with Alexa so they have voice control over it. My two gosund plugs and my power strip no longer connect to either gosund app or back to Alexa. Spent frustratingly too much time reading forums etc and trying to sort it out. No. I don't also want to pay for a subscription for whatever additional value you think I need from a smart plug. No, I don't need to use your app to see my power usage on a plugged in lamp...just turn it on and off. Time to throw that brand in the trash and try something else. Enter Amazon basic smart plugs. Great price on a four pack at my time of purchase around $20 and stellar reviews and sales. Within five minutes I had my plugs connected. Go to Alexa app. Add new plug, Amazon basics. Is the plug connected? Yes, yes it is... as I sat there holding it in my hand. Scan the QR code on the back of the plug, don't worry about the piece of paper, and the search begins. Plug it in. Alexa found it immediately. Didn't take long to connect. Names it as first plug, second plug, etc. The app asks if you want to add it to a group. You can also audibly tell Alexa, "Change first plug name to (whatever you choose)" she confirms your instruction then renames it for you and it flips it in the app in a moment as well. Now I can turn on my living room when I walk in at night and I not have to walk over to one lamp and turn the knob like some commoner. My other lamp has a smart bulb which still works just fine. Checked, it's not a gosund. Mwahaha. So screw you gosund and thank you yet again Amazon.
