Yes, the Amazon Basics Portable Air Conditioner requires venting to the outside. It comes with a window kit for easy installation. In high humidity conditions, the unit may need to be drained more frequently. Some models are equipped with auto-evaporation systems that lessen the need for manual draining under normal conditions. • Excellent product (one week in) Excellent product (one week in)
Size: 13500 BTU Style: With Heat Pump
Purchased the unit to take the garage down 20-25 degrees. We have a commercial refrigerator and freezer. Running this A/C to keep temperatures down in the garage uses less electricity than the two coolers trying to maintain when it is 100 degrees in there. Couple things: 1. First, you must let it sit upright for 24 hours before you use it. There is a warning on the box and in the manual. 2. It is assumed that you have a 120v outlet near a window. The power cord and exhaust duct are both about 6 feet only. It must have 20" clearance behind it so it pretty much needs to live in one spot versus being able to move it around a little. The manual says not to use an extension cord with this. That's OK just be mindful. 2. There is no removable drain bucket. It has a drain plug at the bottom to drain the internal tank out. OR it has a drain pump to pump the water up to 70" higher than the base of the unit. Be mindful of this. It comes with about 2 feet of drain hose so I have it pumping water into a Lowe's bucket for periodic dumping. I need to get a longer drain hose to run it somewhere else. Overall so far so good. It is quiet, the thermostat is accurate and it can move a lot of air in a little amount of time. A great value over a full mini split costing thousands. Quick and easy to get setup. ... show more

  • Awful waste of money and it will ruin your floors.
Size: 13500 BTU Style: With Heat Pump
I am seriously not happy with this thing at all. It Was so expensive. I have to babysit it or else it will get water everywhere. The hose for the water to go out of it is too short and there's only one , but there are three separate places for the water to come out. If you don't catch the water soon enough , it will fill it up and turn off the air conditioning unit and just blow out warm air. This was a waste of money, and I no longer have the box, so I can't return it.And I'm pretty sure the return is well past its date anyways. It also makes your electric bill go through the roof. You're better off getting a window unit. I honestly hate this thing. It's such a nuisance. It does cool off the air , but only in one tiny room And only if the water isn't filling up the inside. Again, if you don't catch it in time, it will kick off the air conditioning unit and you will just have warm air blowing out. It is huge bulky and That awful stuff that sticks to the window when you try to take it off, it's just so bad.It makes a mess.Everything about it is awful. I highly recommend finding some other product and do not buy this one. Save yourself the headache. I wish someone would have told me. Sure wish I could send this awful thing back and get a refund. ... show more

  • Both settings work well
Size: 13500 BTU Style: With Heat Pump
Overall works well. AC is strong. When temp is reached, it shuts off & will turn on again. The heat setting doesn’t do this. It constantly runs. I’ve even turned it down to the lowest setting - 62F and it was still so hot that it woke me up my sleep… both settings work. Just wish heat would also shut off & back on again like ac does when temp is reached. ... show more

  • Loud but cools down large rooms with ease
Size: 13500 BTU Style: With Heat Pump
Had this for 2 months where daytime temps ranged from 85-104 F. Keeps my 700 sq ft, above the garage, bonus room cool even with 7 monitors and 5 computers running. The only con to this unit is that is is LOUD. I expected it to be loud, but it is even louder than I expected. Loud enough to be annoying, but I have not found a portable A/C unit of similar size that could cool this space without having to run constantly for 8-10 hours once the outside temp reached 95 F. This unit keeps the room at 73 F without running constantly. Would buy again. ... show more

  • This thing kinda sucks but not enough to return it
Size: 13500 BTU Style: With Heat Pump
I've used it over the summer (2025) so I have a good gauge on what kind of product this is. The make quality is poor. The button display is a big sticker and whoever stuck it on didn't put it in the right place and didn't bother to redo it. Parts don't exactly fit together in a neat way (it reminds me of the interior of a Ford car as compared to something like a Toyota). The plastic tubing for draining condensation was bent during shipping, which caused a permanent kink to form which affects flow. The unit got moldy within two weeks which is unbelievable. I got rid of my last unit because it finally had an unkickable mold problem and bought new specifically to avoid mold. So that is a serious negative. Oh, and the hose that pumps the heat outside doesn't connect perfectly to the unit, so a decent amount of hot air just escapes right back into the room. The unit isn't all bad, though, and some of these downsides can be managed. The unit always blows ice cold air when you need it to, and the fan sound is fairly pleasant. The heat option also works great so you can keep it in your room year round should you choose to do so. The remote works fine (although I doubt how well it's temparature-telling feature actually works). Overall, for the price, it's not a terribly offensive product as of yet. I do wish I went with another one but I wasn't motivated enough to return it, especially considering how heavy and cumbersome that endeavor would be. I guess that's exactly what Amazon hopes to achieve with any of its products, really: they sell it to you directly, they make it as cheaply and as lazily as possible to save money on production, but they make it just barely good enough for you to not want to go through the effort of returning it, which leads to them turning a massive profit at your expense and using said profit to blast white women into space. To each his own, I guess. ... show more

  • Not enough BTUs for my 12x12 space.
Size: 13500 BTU Style: With Heat Pump
I've had this unit for 10 months in Houston. Long, hot summers and mild winters. My office is 12x12. Once the outside temp reaches 80+, the unit can't keep up. It's not a problem with the unit's cooling capability. It produces 60.6-degree air, just like my two Frigidaire units. The problem is that our climate is too hot/humid for this 10000 BTU unit to cool a 12x12 space (144 sq/ft), because this type of design needs to pull in as much air as it exhausts. It simply pulls in too much hot/humid air to keep up. Our 200,000 BTU unit works well in an adjacent 12x12 office. It also emits a chemical smell when it's cooling, which becomes strong in that small space. We keep both filters clean. IMPORTANT: The second filter requires unscrewing the lower back section, which is very inconvenient. Yep, my unit arrived with a broken case like many others. But coming in August meant I needed to put it to work immediately and forgo sending it back. Bottom line: if you live in a hot, humid climate, opt for a unit with more BTUs. ... show more
