Disclaimer: I received this product for no charge through the Vine program but pay income tax on the retail value of the item. This weatherproof outdoor plug is ideal for remotely controlling outdoor lighting, fans, or any other appliance that you might use outdoors. It would be especially useful for holiday lighting where you can use the Alexa app to remotely program start and stop times without having to go outside in the cold, rain, or snow. Physically, the device is constructed well. The receptacles have separate silicone rubber covers to protect against water entry. The covers seal shut, but they feel a little loose in the closed position. The manual states the device has an IP65 rating which means it is protected from dust and water jets from any direction. To achieve that water resistance, the manual says the plug must be 4.7 feet above the ground. That seems a bit impractical as most outdoor receptacles are near the ground. The device can be controlled manually with switches located on the plug, but to use it as a smart device it must be used within the Alexa ecosystem. It will not work with Google Home, Apple HomeKit, or any other smart device app other than Alexa. If that is acceptable to you, this plug will work well. Setting up the device is easy. The only way to set up the device is to go to the Alexa App on your smartphone or tablet, select Devices, and add a new Amazon Basics device. Among the choices you are presented with is an Outdoor plug. Once you have chosen that device the app asks you to scan the QR code printed on the plug or in the user manual, but not the QR code on the box. Scanning the code then gets the device registered on your Wi-Fi Network and it is ready to go. Although setting up the device was easy, I couldn't immediately control the devices with the Alexa app the first time I set it up. I had to unplug and plug the device in a couple of times before I had voice and app control over the two receptacles. That could be frustrating to someone who hasn't previously used smart devices and discovered their occasionally finicky behavior. The two receptacles can be controlled independently. By default, they will appear as "plug 1" and "plug 2" on your list of devices on the Alexa app. However, if you have other Amazon smart plugs already on your network, they will rename themselves to "plug 3" and "plug 4" or whatever number is next in line. Of course, you are free to rename the receptacles as you please. In summary, this outdoor smart plug works exactly as promised as long as you remain within the Alexa ecosytem of smart devices. ... show more

Bought 2 for my backyard and front lights to control it with Alexa voice commands. Works perfectly, never a problem so far. As for the weatherproofing of the units I am not so sure because the plastic flaps are dangling down and do not keep in place, which is not a problem as long as the plug openings face downwards. can recommend. ... show more

In the past I’ve used outlets with a remote, and I found this to be suboptimal. You can lose the remote, or if you’re not anywhere near the remote it’s a hassle to go find it… You get the idea. But this outlet I can control from anywhere using my Amazon fire stick, or iPhone! if we had any other Alexa devices in the house we could use those as well. I had a very tiny amount of difficulty when using the app, but to be fair I didn’t spend a lot of time with it. That wasn’t the plugs fault, it was my issue with the Alexa app. But after I got things squared away I was able to designate a name for each outlet, and canned control two different sets of lights. I absolutely Love the freedom this plug gives me, and couldn’t be more happy with it! Highly recommend!! ... show more

I had zero problems adding this device to Alexa. Just plugged it in and a few seconds Alexa announced that it had been added. Each plug can be turned on and off from the app or via voice command or directly with the push buttons on the plug itself. When turning off or on remotely, there is a click sound at the plug itself and a small green light that indicates when the plug is on. Heavy duty cord is short, around 6 inches, and grounded plugs have sealing rubber covers. There is a hanging tab so that the unit could be hung very near the outlet where it's installed. My plan is to use this with Outdoor Christmas lights that are within WiFi range. I look forward to eliminating those winter ventures out into the cold to turn on and off the lights. Of course, it's entirely possible that I find a use for this before the holiday season and its Christmas designation is never realized. (Or even more likely, that at post Thanksgiving decoration time, I won't be able to remember where I put this... I know. I'll store it now in the decoration box.) ... show more

Bought this for my outside pool a d works like a charm. Plugged in, set timer on alexa app and it does its thing. Only thing is figuring out the app on how to set up off timer.
