Top Amazon Reviews

  • Excellent Value
Size: 36 x 18 x 72 Style: Double Post
Positives: Sturdy, good width, no hardware necessary (a small mallet is suggested to snap shelves in place). Shelves are rated to hold quite a bit of weight. Easy to assemble. Negatives: None really, except the metal feet might damage your floors or carpet. Small rubber foot guards are provided, but still a consideration. Shelf unit can be divided into two - a 3 shelf and a 2 shelf, each 36" high. You would need extra protection for the feet of the additional unit. To move, it's best to disassemble and reassemble, which is easy since the unit is heavy. ... show more

  • Great shelves, easy to put together heavy duty Great shelves, easy to put together heavy duty
Size: 60 x 24 x 78 Style: Double Post
I read all of the one star reviews, but decided to buy it anyway, because it was the right size. Extremely heavy duty way easy to put together put it together by myself. All you need is a rubber mallet.

  • Basic and Functional = 5 Stars
Size: 48 x 18 x 72 Style: Single Post
Ordered this shelving unit to get our outdoor gear off of the floor in our cozy spare bedroom. I didn't really care what it looked like or anything. Just wanted something about these dimensions that was functional. It arrived at our front porch and is a fairly heavy box, so I scooted it inside and then decided to open it up right there and transfer the parts separately to where I would be assembling the unit because I did not have a second person to help me lift the box. Assembly was quite easy for just one person. Unlike other folks, none of my pieces were defective or missing, so I did not have any issues there. I also saw from other that it is helpful to use a rubber mallet to lock the shelves in to place. I would definitely echo this recommendation, as the shelves may feel sturdy when put in by hand, but when you look closely, you can see that there is a gap and you have to hammer them down to really lock in. I did not have a rubber mallet, so I used a basic hammer wrapped in a towel several times and this was sufficient to lock in the pieces while cushioning the blow enough to not damage them. I set our unit up on carpet and it felt very sturdy and has done well holding our gear for several months now. Because it felt sturdy enough and I did not want to drill a hole in our wall, I opted not to install the anti-tipping accessory that was included. I move around a fair bit, so it will be interesting to see when I move next, how easy this shelving will be to deconstruct for moving purposes. I imagine it will be fairly easy and will just be able to give them a knock with a hammer to pop back out. ... show more

  • The frame is a "5" but I'm giving it 4 stars because the MDF shelves are garbage
Size: 48 x 18 x 72 Style: Single Post
I purchased this to make a cat tower for my screened in patio. The metal frame is easily assembled with a rubber mallet and the frame is quite sturdy and looks much nicer than what you'd find at a big box store. I cut up some Ikea wooden bed slats that I had on hand and used them as the bottom shelf. Unlike the cheeze-ball MDF shelves that come with the unit, the bed slats are easily able to hold the heavy bins of tile I used to weigh the unit down and prevent those fat cat asses from toppling the whole thing over. The MDF shelves as I said are garbage - barely 3/8" thick and warp easily. To build the landings at each level I cut each shelf in half and alternated the half shelves so the cats could climb to the top. The remaining halves I stored with my plywood stash. After a few months, I noticed the shelves on the patio were getting really moldy - not surprising with Florida's humidity. But when I pulled out the halves that I'd put away - they too were covered in mold. Yuck! I just chucked the MDF that came with the shelves and cut new landing shelves from my scrap plywood. All in all the shelving frame is great but plan on replacing the original MDF shelves with something that can support some amount of weight and not turn into a petri dish. ... show more

  • Great sturdy shelves that hold a lot.
Size: 48 x 18 x 72 Style: Double Post
Great storage item, the shelves are so stable and steady. I put these in the basement for storage when we cleaned and I love them. My husband had a bit of trouble in the assembly, the instructions were written in China and are mostly illustrated. Be careful as piece seem to look alike, but they are not. Once we got through that issue, they’re wonderful shelves. ... show more

  • Incorrect load rating but still decent light duty shelf Incorrect load rating but still decent light duty shelf
Size: 48 x 18 x 72 Style: Single Post
I bought 2 of these shelves and have returned them because the product description is inaccurate. It’s a good shelf design: Overall the shelf design is good, easy to setup, relatively light weight, and sits fairly solid. It is entirely constructed of aluminum verticals & horizontal supports. Comes with rubber covers for each end of the vertical rails so you don’t scratch a floor or scrape an arm when reaching on top of the unit. The shelves are particle/pressboard a little over 1/4” thick. Some have said its “about 1/2” thick but I found that to not be the case. Delivery: One of my shelves arrived in a damaged box missing pieces. I think it was packed sufficiently well enough just the box tore open during transit. Have to leave that issue with UPS. Why i returned the units: I found out thru amazon, they cannot ship replacement/missing pieces. You have to ship the whole thing back to get a replacement. Given the price ($160usd) and missing pieces was what prompted me to send both of them back. After paying about $160.usd for each shelf and seeing the capacity i knew i could find one of the steel variants of this shelf and probably cheaper. I have used this type of shelf design several times over the years and always found them fairly sturdy however ive never used one made of aluminum. Honestly though, i would have probably kept these shelves if they could have shipped me the missing pieces. Return process: Amazon was excellent here. Sent UPS next day to pick the units up. Was pretty easy for me other than the fact i had to duct tape one box back together. Two problems with this shelf: Rating description and price. Currently Amazon has this listed with an overall weight capacity of 4000 lbs and each shelf holding 400 lbs. This is absolutely inaccurate. Now i most assuredly was not expecting a shelf to hold 4000 lbs but i was expecting a more robust shelving unit for $160+. I suspect the entire shelf is to hold a maximum of 400lbs with 100lbs per shelf. Even that would be a stretch. Where not to use: Would not recommend for a garage, basement or any area where the unit is required to significant weight over an extended period of time. Where to use: Would recommend this in a closet to put towels or blankets on. I think this shelf is suitable for that application, however the price is almost double the cost of a higher capacity steel variant that can be found at the orange and blue box stores. ... show more

  • I'm about to order another one.
Size: 48 x 18 x 72 Style: Double Post
I paid $101.35 and, although it has no rollers, it's worth it: after researching several other shelving units (mostly with rollers), it seemed to me that this is the best choice for quality, size, and durability, even though the instructions could have been somewhat better and the other units were lower in price. For those who have never put together one of these units, it takes just a few minutes to "get" the assembly instructions. You'll need a rubber or a wooden mallet or something similar -- DO NOT use a metal hammer. 15 minutes should be enough time to put it together, once you get the hang of it. Much easier with two people. If you have not assembled the unit where it's going to be placed, it will be easier (for one person) to move if you take out the pressboard shelves; the unit isn't very heavy, but it can be unwieldy. Two people should be able to easily move it with shelves in. NOTE: The rubber tops come out easily; you might want to put them on once the unit is in place. Quality seems very good; it has plenty of room (partly because of the smart engineering of the unit); strength seems good. Shortly, I'll be ordering another one of these -- perhaps two -- for my storage room and garage. I recommend this shelving unit. (Load it from the bottom - up, keeping heaviest things on the lower shelves.) It's a good buy. ... show more
