Really worth the price

This comes rolled up tightly, wrapped in a second thick layer of plastic sheeting to protect it. It's very easy to unwrap and open and starts inflating in seconds. We opened it up in the morning in my 12 year old son's room, assuming he could sleep on it that evening. I completely missed the part on the box where it says it fully inflates in 48 hours. So bedtime comes, about 13 hours after opening. And it's not good. It's pretty aweful. Think of the old fabric mattresses we had at overnight camp... My 110lb 12 year old beast of a son sat on his bed and both the head and the foot of the mattress flopped upward. It just looked aweful. We had major regrets about buying. But, our son said it was no worse than his old innerspring mattress that had a flat pillowtop from age. The next morning, it was only slightly better. Again, I was disappointed. BUT then around the 48 hour mark, all of the sudden it's not so bad! Its more comfortable and thicker and doesn't flop up on one end when you sit on the other. You cannot feel the supports under his mattress any longer. Now this is still only a 7inch mattress. Any real adult is going to want 10-12'' of foam. But for a child or a light teenager, or a guest room, this is great. We don't know how long this will work for our oldest. He is already 11lb and about 5'6''. And, hasn't hit his growth spurt.... but we'll pass it down to his brother as that mattress needs replaced, if - or rather when he outgrows this. It has no real smell to it. We didn't have to air it out at all (I'm very sensitive to chemically smells). So just beware. Don't use it till it's had at good 2 days to rest and inflate. Avoid the woes and regrets and go in with proper expectations.

This mattress replaces a lumpy soft mattress in my daughter's bedroom. It came compressed and rolled up in a box, which expanded quickly once the plastic bag was cut open. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the firmest, I would judge this a 7. Compared to my Casper mattress, this AmazonBasics mattress feels more like a traditional mattress. I can really feel my body sink into it. It's not super soft nor hard. She likes it so far because she didn't want a soft or hard bed. It also doesn't sink in when I sit on the side. Overall, it's the perfect mattress for someone who want a semi-firm mattress that doesn't heat up.
