My stats: 6'1" 200lbs pinched spinal column, sciatic nerve impingement, poor sleeper, hot sleeper Absolutely LOVE this matress. When it arrived it was well packaged. Upon opening I had doubts it would expand fully. Took it to an open room and cut open vacuum sealed bag. Bed started expanding rapidly. A few hours later and it looked completely expanded but I followed the directions and waited. 72 hours later it was ready. I pressed on the top of the bed and I was worried, it felt stiff almost hard. I then laid on it and my worries went away as it formed around me beautifully. It is firm but very comfortable. The initial smell of plastic was almost completely gone. The first night I we slept on it I did not wake once during the night and awoke feeling really good. I have a bad back and since sleeping on this mattress I have noticed that I awaken with less back pain and stiffness. I am sleeping a lot better also. The gel top on this mattress is amazing as it keeps a nice cool layer even if you stay in the same spot for a long time. When summer comes I see this being a HUGE plus. Pros: Firm but giving, cooling, even firmness over the entire surface area, smell fades within days Cons: Honestly none as of yet I will update in a month or two. 4 month update: Looks and feels brand new. No dents, soft/hard spots, and no signs of wear or breakdown. We live in western Pennsylvania and it has been in the 90s during the day and 68-72 at night. The beds gel layer has been a Godsend. I go to bed 2-3 hours after my wife and when I sit and then lay down she never knows. My back has been better in these last 3 months than it has been in years. 1 year update: Still looks brand new. No bowing or drooping areas. Every night the wife and I get in it feels like the first night we slept on it. This mattress has literally helped me get the best sleep in the last year than I have in 20+ years of having a bad back. 2 year update: Yes, still in love! Every night feels like the first night in this dream. Cooling still works fantastic, it is still the same firmness as when brand new, and it stills forms to my body perfectly. Perfect sleeping for the first time in years. Just firm enough and so very comfortable. Fast shipping! It is amazing how small the box was for vacuum packing - Delivered in the morning and completely ready to use by bedtime. This on an Amazon basics frame, and the entire set cost me less than $350!

No smell. This a little firmer than medium if you ask me, but still tolerable. Also depends on how cold your sleeping room is at night. Still good. You won't feel too warm, sometimes that can happen with these mattresses.

Bought this for my cousin when he moved in with me. He likes how soft my bed is, but wanted it a little more firm and not as thick. This bed was perfect and the price was great. He loves it and sleeps like a rock.

    • Body aches are less upon waking

I did alot of research prior to buying this mattress. I had a previous Zinus mattress that was good for about 5 years until I started waking up with worse body aches than I had the night before. I discovered in a Reddit thread that the Amazon basic mattress is made by Brooklyn Bedding, a very reputable company. I have slept on this mattress for 4 nights now and I am not waking up with body aches. The cooling affect is minimal but I'm menopausal and I do think my night sweats have lessened some. This mattress is much firmer than I was expecting but I think that works for me. I let it expand in the floor for about 48 hours and then on the bed frame for another 12, I think the 48 hours would have been enough. I have a metal bed frame with slats and I did add a bunkie board underneath for even more support. As of now, I am very pleased with this mattress. If that changes, I will update. It did have a slight smell when we unboxed it but that seems to have went away or I got used to it. My husband and I are fairly short people. I'm 5'3 and he's 5'5. I'm about 170 and he's 185. Not sure if size of people makes any difference. ... show more
