I had several 'books' to bind, each about 100 pages, and with cardstock front and back covers. I bought this machine because it was cheap, and I didn't really anticipate using it again once I had made the books. I was able to successfully make a perfect book on my first attempt. The machine is relatively straightforward to use, and it's difficult to mess up as long as you take your time and are careful. The instructions aren't very good, so I watched a youtube tutorial. I kind of wish I hadn't though, because I figured out a better way of doing it. Instead of trying to hook each sheet onto the comb, I found it was much easier to stack the entire book as a block, then hold in in place while slowly pulling the lever to close the comb, capturing all of the pages at once. I would say the claimed 12 sheet punching capacity is quite optimistic. I was punching standard 2lb copy paper, and I found I could punch a maximum of about 8 sheets at a time without feeling like I was going to damage the machine. This is fine for small-scale production though. Once I got the hang of it, I found I could make a book in just a couple of minutes. I made a mistake with one of my books (printed the pages wrong) and I was able to use the machine to easily open the comb back up, remove the offending pages, and replace them with corrected versions. Once I had finished my books, I was looking around the house for other stuff I could comb-bind. I don't need the machine any more now I have my books made, but I'm glad I have it, and will definitely get some use out of it in future.

I purchased this for work. Normally, we have a couple of 50 page handbooks to print and bind each year and purchasing a unit such as this is cheaper overall than paying someone to do it for us. This year however, we have several VERY large projects, so I was looking for something that could bind 300 pages, thus, I settled on this one (price and quantity of pages were there). It's a good thing this large project only comes around every 4 years, because I don't think this machine would last more than 2 years with huge projects. Do not believe it when it says you can punch 12 sheets. I started with 10 sheets and could not get the handle to complete the punch, and, unfortunately, when you are in mid-punch, you cannot remove the papers to lighten the load. I managed to compress the handle multiple times, chewing through sheet by sheet until it fully punched the 10 pages, while feeling as if the handle would break or strip through the hinge at any time. Next I tried 8 sheets - it was a struggle, again feeling as though the handle would break - but it finally made it without the having to revert to multiple compresses. I finally found 5-6 sheets worked best - took awhile to get through two 300 page reports at 5 pages a go, but I did it! The machine does what it needs to do and I cannot complain because I could have gone with a nicer, more expensive model. I had a Fellows machine in the past that worked beautifully but could not do the big job that I needed this year. Unfortunately for me, I lent out my Fellows to someone and never got it back and after a year, forgot who I lent it to (out of sight out of mind). Overall, if you have light binding jobs, this machine is good.

Excellent! Exactly what I was looking for (and I expected to pay 2 - 3 times as much). That being said, there are some things to be aware of. 1) The description claims it can punch 12 sheets at a time. That is true, but I had to exert a LOT of pressure to punch through 12 sheets. That much pressure concerns me that something might break or bend, so I would recommend maybe 5-6 sheets at a time. This might make the unit unacceptable for a business where you might be punching hundreds of pages and dozens of copies, but it is perfect for my (home) needs 2) The "guide" (where you set the size of the paper (i.e., 8.5 x 11)) is off somewhat and the punched holes are not centered (top-to-bottom) on the page. I would recommend punching some scrap paper first and adjusting the guide until you're happy with it. Other than that it is a great item and I am very happy with the purchase.

For this homeschooling mom, it works!!! I spent $40+ (not including the 4 cab rides I had to take to them and back) at the UPS store last year in just binding. I had the good sense to print my stuff first. SMH, I vowed never to do that again especially since the girl miss punched and mess some up, which I noticed way into our school year. But back to my review. This is ready and easy to use right out the box and all I had to do is attach the handle. Thank you Amazon basics! Choosing the paper size was a no brainer since they have it labeled "letter size" and all I had to do was move the marker over to it. Again, thank you Ab! It punched my tester sheet nicely so I went to town and punched and comb bound our math curriculum. It was kind of a smooth punching process. It says 12 sheets at a time and I kind of tried to stick to that dictate. No guess work on the positioning of the pages to be punched. Just insert sheets until you can't go any further to insure edges don't get torn. Ummm, not to teach bad habits or anything but I punched my plastic cover sheet without thinking about it. I had it layered under my cardstocky back cover and it punched through. Not completely clean on the plastic but well enough that, holes were punched with maybe 2/3 spots that still had the top part that you had to pop off or snip. Tried it with just the plastic aannd will never do that again. My baby said "heck no lady! Ain't built for that". So, maybe not do that, lol....binding part was easy too and I used 2" comb binding. It's light but stays put on flat surface. Prayerfully it makes it through all the other work I have lined up. Pretty good value for my money. Now I feel like I accomplished something today, I'm going back to bed, it's Sunday and it just arrived so. I had to try it.

This unit was purchased for occasional binding of books consisting of double-sided print from PDF, up to 70 sheets of paper. The paper used was 32lb, so a thick heavy paper. Rather than attempting to punch 12 pieces of paper at a time as indicated in the product description, I punched 5 to avoid stressing the device. So far, I've successfully created six "books". There's a handy table of plastic comb sizes and the amount of paper that can be bound, on the base of the unit. From my experience, it seemed better to use the next larger size comb. For example, for a book consisting of 50 pieces of paper, the 3/8" or 10mm plastic comb is suggested for up to 55 bindings. For me, the next size up, 1/2" 12mm comb was easier to work with. YMMV. Great product for my intended usage.

If you enjoy being frustrated and not having products work as advertised, this is the machine for you! I realize this product is inexpensive, so I assumed it wasn't going to be the best available. I only needed to punch a few sheets at a time, so I wasn't worried about it's advertisement of being light duty. Punching through paper is just fine, 2-3 sheets at time. When I tried to punch through the plastic cover or the heavier duty back cover that most projects require, it was infuriating! I ruined 3 plastic covers and 2 back covers b/c the machine would not release the item. When I was able to finally rip it out, it tore the covers making them unusable. Again, I know this is a cheaper end product so I wasn't expecting a lot, but I did expect to punch one single cover. Definitely wouldn't recommend!
