  • Works as it should. The power cord is way too short
Size: 1-Pack Style: 7-Port USB 2.0
The 2018 Mac Mini I use as my main computer only has two USB ports, which is a nuisance. This little guy takes care of the issue. With 7 ports altogether (two in the front, five in the back), you can connect and charge all your peripherals, charge your phone, whatever you need --more than what I need, in fact, since I went from not having enough USB ports to having too many, but that's a nice problem to have. Its only flaw is how short the power cord is. My desk is not particularly tall, and now the power strip I connected it to is hanging up in the air. The first time I ordered it, the power cord had the wrong plug, but I returned it and bought a new one, and got my money back right away. Kudos to Amazon. ... show more

  • Easy to install.
Size: 1-Pack Style: 7-Port USB 2.0
Made my desk much neater. For my cell phone and I-Pad, only wires shown are two small wires 8-10 inches long. [A foot or more of those wires behind the desk.]. Don't even see the mall port.

Set up a home office but my laptop didn't have enough USB ports this resolved the issue. It was easy to set up and has worked with everything I have connected so far.

  • USB 7 port 3.0 Hub with One Design Annoyance
Size: 1-Pack Style: 7-Port USB 3.0
This is a review of the AmazonBasics 7port USB 3.0 HUB with external adapter, I have put it through the paces and come out really quite impressed with this unit although it does have one minor flaw that I chalk up to user error more than a poor product. I upgraded my motherboard and finally have some USB 3.0 ports on it so it seemed a waste to downport it with an old powered 4 port USB 2.0 HUB when I could get a 3.0 powered HUB and upgrade in speed. Plus USB 3.0 is back compatible with USB 2.0 and I don't believe I have any USB 1.0 devices anymore. I bought this one instead of the 10 port because I didn't want a bigger HUB with more ports that I wasn't going to use. Honestly who has more than 7 USB devices attached at once on a daily basis and can't just simply unplug one to make room for another? Pros - The reports of poorly shaped pins can be forgotton, or at least discounted on the specific model HUB I bought. I've looked over each port several times and the pins don't appear to be misshapen at all. BUT then again I could be editing this review months from now with an update that the pins bent and are now shorting out, although that would likely be due more to user error than product defectiveness. -This HUB has its own power supply which means that it can provide fast charging to things like Cell Phones and some other USB devices when they are attached to the two Fast Charge ports on the side of the port. These two ports are isolated and have a little lightning bolt above them and labeled "Fast" so that you know they are the fast charge ports. -The charge rate for my Samsung S4 Active is fast enough, as fast as plugging it into the wall outlet all by itself which is an improvement over plugging it into a standard USB port on a computer. Charging like that takes forever and barely keeps the phone ON much less charging. -It has a single blue LED bar on it that lets you know it is working, no light over every single port which I appreciate the minimalism here. Treating me like an adult I KNOW when I have something plugged into a port I don't need a status LED over every one of them! -I haven't messed with USB 3.0 until my motherboard upgrade but it will blow you away. I transferred 75GB of data from an external HDD over this hub to my computers HDD in 15 mins. That is a rough transfer rate of 100mb/sec. THAT blew me away. Cons -The Power Supply Unit for the HUB is nearly as big as the hub itself. Yes they give you plenty of cable length to hide it under a desk or wherever but it is something you might want to realize if you are going for a minimalist desk setup. The PSU is actually thicker than the HUB itself (See my Pictures) -I had ONE issue getting my phone to be recognized as an external device. One of my USB cables is apparently not compatible with this HUB. But I am chalking this up to the fact that the cable itself is cheap. It would charge but my computer would not see it as a device nor recognize it as even being plugged into the computer at all. I switched the cable and the issue immediately resolved. -Orientation with my model can be a bit of a challenge because it is shaped like a wedge with all the ports on the wide end of the wedge. So you basically have a decision to make. Do you want a cleaner look with the fat end of the wedge facing away from you and lose access to the rear ports OR do you want to face the fat end of the wedge toward you and be annoyed that the words amazonbasics are upside down every time you look at it. The choice is yours! I decided to face the fat part of the wedge toward me. Summary Really this port is great and is giving me all the functionality I need. I decided NOT to deduct a star for the slight orientation annoyance posed by this product only because it really only annoys me from time to time. My unit appears not to have any defects and all the ports function flawlessly as designed. And for the price there really isn't anything comparable to it. ... show more

  • WILL NOT CHARGE!
Purchased one of these, connected a digital camera, and Sandisk mp3 player to maintain a little charge on the batteries while I worked on a couple of other things. I'm sure it had been several weeks when I came back to it, and both batteries were dead. I haven't attempted any data transfer with hub as of yet, but really disappointed to see that this hub did not seem to pass the 5 volts needed to maintain a charge on the batteries. This hub was connected to an A.C. powered, USB wall outlet adapter/charger, which I know is working fine. Both the digital camera and mp3 player are supposed to be able to be charged via a USB connection. I've been using both plain, and powered USB hubs for years now, so I'm pretty familiar with them and their applications. I had always leaned more toward powered hubs, just in case that extra power is ever needed, say for an external hard drive, where that drive did not have it's own power supply. I'm actually at a loss for an explanation as to why this hub will not pass the 5 volts coming from a known good 5 volt source, to the devices connected to it. I will be calling amazon regarding this, however seriously doubt if I will be able to get any real technical support about it. Most likely, they will just send a replacement or issue a refund. Shame... i really liked this small hub. Really don't mind the short cord, or bright LED, as I planned on using it as a tablet accessory, so it would have been the perfect size to include in my carrying bag. If I learn any more about this, I will include an update here. Update: January 31, 2013 Called amazon regarding this issue. They are sending out a replacement, and a return shipping label. I will be receiving the replacement next week. If I find the same exact issue with a second, I'll have to assume that's the way they were made, and will have to search for an alternative mini hub. Did not plan on using this 'only' for charging other devices, but do need it to provide that 5 Volt DC output for other devices. Update: March 24, 2013 (Sorry for the delay!) I did receive my replacement from amazon after 'several' delays in the shipping due to the back order status of this hub, thus part of the delay here. Well connected it in the exact same way as the first, into an A.C. powered USB 'charger'. Actually have several here, and tried it in several configurations, through a single stand alone, (or single port) USB charger, and a 4 port charger. Both connected directly into an A.C. outlet. With the 4 port charger, (obtained through NewEgg, but also available on amazon), the little amazon USB hub was connected into one of the charger ports. I plugged in a couple devices, (I believe my digital camera & an MP3 Player) into the amazon hub itself, then a couple devices into the other plug/ports directly into the A.C. powered charger. Unfortunately folks, in either configuration, the charging voltage did not pass through the little amazon hub. The devices plugged into it, lost their battery charge after some time, while the devices plugged directly into the A.C. USB charger, maintained their charge. But, all this is saying is that the little amazon hub can't be used for actually 'charging' battery powered devices. This does not distract from the fact that it still does what it's advertised to be, or it's purpose... It's a 4 port 'USB Hub'. Or that you will have any problems or issues using it for such things as a USB mouse, a keyboard, USB thumb drives, card readers, and 'some' hard drives. Shouldn't have any issues with any 'self-powered' hard drives. Personally, I would stop short of trying to use it for other USB 'toys' out these days, such as little fans, lights and such things. They 'may' work, (I don't have any such things, so couldn't test them, besides, all will operate differently). But that power for such things, will be drawn off your device, dis-charging the batteries at a much more rapid rate. So it's 'NOT' made to actually charge battery powered devices through the 4 USB ports, it's made to connect multiple USB devices, (such as mentioned above), at one time. If you want to charge battery powered devices, that are meant to charge through a USB connection, I suggest you check out a little 4 port A.C. wall outlet charger, like I have. It does have 4 USB ports 'made only for charging devices', so would assume it has the typical 5+ volts output at each port, is said to have a 2 amp output, (that would be 500 mA for each port). Since this is specifically made for charging, this is what one should use for charging devices, unless you go into a 'powered' USB hub, that includes a little A.C. plug-in power supply. The ones I have will charge devices, but you will still have that cord over to an A.C. outlet to live with. The 4 port A.C. USB 'charger' I have, is like that below, from amazon's site. These are available on 'numerous' sites, and under 'various' names. I got mine on sale for $10.00 each, so do watch for sales! These do work well, however have a bit of a loose fit into an A.C. socket, so do continue to watch to make sure they are plugged in all the way. http://www.amazon.com/4-Port-Adapter-Charger-Powered-Devices/dp/B003ZTU0OO/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1364127370&sr=1-9&keywords=4+port+usb+wall+charger If you don't need 4 ports, there are 2 port chargers available as well. Just do a search for 'USB wall charger' on amazon, and you will pull up 'pages' of various chargers, in numerous configurations. This particular one has the USB plugs on the front face of it, others have the USB plugs underneath, or on the bottom of it. Whichever fits your needs the best... Besides these little 4 port USB chargers, naturally I went a bit overboard and put together a '10 port charger' for myself. I have a lot of 'toys', LOL! Really, just a lot of things with rechargeable batteries these days... Tablets, (a couple), Bluetooth keyboards (that do require charging), even cell phones, MP3 Players, digital cameras, and, 'where did I get all this stuff'!!! For those wondering, I 'started' out with this; http://www.amazon.com/10-Port-USB-2-0-Hub/dp/B00475WJEY/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1364129737&sr=1-1&keywords=10+port+usb+hub Pretty cheap for a 10 port USB hub... But keep in mind something if using something like this for 'charging'; 10 ports, (times), 500 mA for each port (equals), '5 Amps'! The A.C. power supply that comes with this, is only 2 Amps, which means if you use the A.C. power supply that comes with it, you will only be delivering 200 mA to each port, (providing you are using all 10 ports). Which means, it could take more than twice as long to charge a device than normal. Solution... Find a '5 Amp' power supply, so that if you need, you can supply a full 500 mA to each of the 10 ports. Through 'a lot' of searching, I found a good, cheap source for them. The first ones I found were like $17.00 each, plus shipping, (more than 3 times the cost of the 10 port hub itself). I kept searching, and found a good dependable source of them for less than half of that price, and 'free shipping'. 'And' with the proper plug, (Tip), on the end, so it was the 'perfect fit'. The more expensive ones I found, I couldn't order with any specific Tip on them. I would have had to do a 'cut and splice' to them. So if anyone is as crazy as myself, has a lot of rechargeable toys, needs a 10 port hub, let me know and I will send a link to where I got my 5 Amp power supplies. Amazon does show a 12 port USB hub as well, and I have seen 15 port, on up to 30 ports, but those would naturally require a much larger power supply. Probably much more than the devices are cable of handling. I seriously doubt if they are current limited at each port, so a short 'anywhere' would have drastic results! Best, and probably cheaper just to stack a couple of the 10 port hubs, if you 'really' need it... In conclusion, I do like the little amazon hub, and am sure I will use it for when I need to connect, say my tablet with a keyboard, a mouse, along with maybe a USB card reader adapter. For such things, this little USB hub should work great. ... show more
