Out of the box, the unit I received did not fully work properly, presumably due to a faulty logic board or sensor. The aux electric heat would kick in appropriately, but on both heat or cool modes, no matter what the set temperature was (well above or below the set point), the compressor would never kick on and the fan never shut off even after hours of testing or when at temperature. The documentation is sparse and the unit's interface is minimal, lacking diagnostic/status features to show what it is trying (or failing) to sense or do. However, I was able to switch over the configuration to external thermostat mode and verify manually that the compressor was functional. I connected the unit to an Ecobee Enhanced, one of the few thermostats that readily support multiple fan speeds and this pthp's G2 wire. This combo works great with much better control and visibility into what the thermostat is sensing and what it is commanding the heat pump to do, as well as the flexibilty to measure the temperature a chosen room location. I found the unit heats very well for a small space and does so relatively quietly as it hasn't yet needed to switch to high speed mode. This ended up being a better solution for me anyway, but quality control may be a potential issue affecting others. ... show more

    • Bad motherboard. Won't cool
Had my hvac guy looked at error code problem. Amana does not list any 8 or E8 error codes for model PBH092G12CC. Bogus error code point to bad printed circuit board. Of course the quick warranty period had expired.

    • Heating is very poor
Using this heat pump to heat a 200sq ft room, can’t get the space over 70deg F.
