I live in NJ - where it gets mighty cold in winter, (much of this November & December below average cold). Unfortunately for me, I have a dog who wants to be walked twice every day all the year round & couldn't care less about cold. I have my limits for his safety & mine, with my low limit as no lower than "feels like" 20. I also run outside whenever I get a chance, up to about 5 days per week, for about 30-40 minutes, year round. As I've gotten older, my toes have less tolerance for cold - I ended up with a light case of frostbite last year & suffer from Reynaud's, which just makes things extra fun* (*sarcasm font). Also, I'm cheap & have a hard time spending scads on a single sock. The socks I've loved most in my budget aren't made anymore & even they were sometimes not warm enough. These Alvada socks have exceeded my expectations. I figured they MIGHT be good for walking, but would probably be too thick for running, but I've walked the dog and gone for a run right after, with temps in the upper 20s, more than once and they've done very well, comfortable for both activities and warm enough that my toes didn't hurt with cold. After my last walk followed immediately by a run, I stayed outside for a bit, putzing about the yard & eventually, my feet began to get cold, but all of me was getting cold at that point from dilly dallying about in running shoes/clothes with a "feels like" temperature in the 20s. I followed the instructions that came with them to fluff them up in the dryer & had no issue. I have washed them in the delicate cycle & hung them to dry, just to be on the safe side. So many warm socks for outdoor activities cost $25 or more for one pair - it's nice to have a few in a package to rotate, since if I do run in the morning, I can't use those socks again for the dog's second walk after work. And if you're just looking for comfy, warm socks indoors, they're great for that too - I've put them on when unsure if I'll be able to get outside & they're cozy. ... show more

Very well packaged; arrived on time. These are the absolute BEST winter socks. I wear size 9 shoe, but ordered size 10-13 socks so that the top part of the sock doesn't dig into my calf and doesn't cut off circulation. I turned them inside out and machine washed/dried in normal load with dark clothes. Came out beautiful. Very warm and cozy. Even though I bought a size up from my normal shoe size, the top part of the sock is still too tight, so I just turn it down to my ankle bone and that does the trick. Next time I order these socks I will get the largest size and see how they fit. For now, these socks are still great; warm and when I wear my snow boots, I pull the socks up all the way so still okay for outside; but for inside I turn them down to my ankle for comfort. I recommend this product; well worth the money; one last thing; I was really surprised by how they were package - very tight air compressed out; I've never seen this kind of packaging for socks! Not a problem or criticism - just surprised, so they were well protected during shipping. This tells me the manufacturer cares about their product during shipping - no moisture could possibly affect the product! Well done! ... show more

I bought these socks for my boyfriend for Christmas. (I bought him other things too lol not just socks) but he LOVED them. He wears them all the time so I bought him another package of them. Then I bought some for myself Dad too. I need to buy some for myself now. The reason why they are so nice is because they provide a little extra cushion which makes a big difference and feels really good in your shoe or on hardwood floors. They are really warm in the winter but still breathable. They seem to be really durable, and I like that they are a natural fiber which is really important for your feet because we absorb alot of bad things through our feet. ... show more

Socks are as described. Maybe better. Which is why I decided to purchase a pair for my roommate, too. We both take different sizes. That I purchased two pairs that were different sizes and neither package was marked, was frustrating…leaving me to open both packages and measure the socks before giving them to him, as I had no way of knowing which one was for him and which one was for me. I would have preferred to given him the socks without opening the package. It was a gift. But nowhere on either package was the size of the socks indicated. The packages just have a size chart and are otherwise hard to tell apart. They are, however, well packaged and easy to wrap if you’d like to gift them to someone, as I did. Other than the frustration of identifying which size is which, from the onset, they look warm and sturdy with a good weight . They arrived extremely promptly, as well. The color is perfect and will go well with most of my and my roommate’s winter wear, without looking like standard wool socks. The inside lining feels soft to the touch, although the outer wool is not itchy. These seem very durable, upon initial inspection. And the insole is ribbed, to provide both traction and better fit. I’m impressed looking at the construction of these socks. If these wash as well as they look , without too much shrinkage…I’m sure I’ll purchase again…but, I’ll be sure to purchase different sizes to arrive on different days to avoid the hassle of opening up packaging and measuring socks, again. ... show more

    • Perfect for Warehouse Worker about to endure the Cold Temperatures at Work!

Bought these for my husband who works in a warehouse. We were starting to get below freezing temperatures and I was worried about his poor feet in those conditions. He personally is not a fan of Wool, however, I personally feel that Merino Wool feels more plush than regular. Took a change and bought these once in hopes he could tolerate them just for the sake of keeping warm. Turns out he actually prefers them. They not only protect him from the cold, but they dont make his feet feel sweaty or itchy. They also give him extra cushion to protect his feet from his heavy boots. We ended up ordering him another set. So to start off, these come in in an air sealed bag. Instructions recommend to throw in dryer with low Woold heat to kinda activate the wool in a way. It is super important THAT YOU FOLLOW THOSE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE PUTTING THEM ON. What a difference in feel. Washing them are a little more on the attentive side. We fortunately have a wool cycle in our washer and dryer, but you may have to wash them by hand to avoid them fully felting. They feel plush and i would say heavier than the average sock just because of how squishy they are. It's not a bad weight. And the length was perfect to even keep my husband's ankles warm. A little strange to put them in the dryer to fluff them back out from the packaging, but it is what it is. The socks have been wonderful. I'm a utility worker in Michigan and wanted a thicker/warmer sock as the weather turns to the nasty cold. These are not only thick and warm, but the softness has been a pleasant surprise as has been the cuff that goes around the calf. It doesn't dig in yet it remains snug and comfy.
