  • Listening to it right now!! ๐ŸŽถ
The media could not be loaded. I LOVE this speaker!! First of all it's very light and easy to carry, and the wheels make it easier to tote. The light modes are cool, I prefer the full rainbow but there are other modes, like just RGB, pulsating with the music, etc. The bass and treble can be adjusted independently as well, and it can become pretty loud at less than full volume. I keep the dial at about 60%, and just turn my phone volume up louder and then it's already booming! ๐Ÿ˜‚ So far I've used it for about 2 total hours, and it should last 4-5 before needing charge again. I definitely recommend this for any party, gathering, or just because!! ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿ”ˆ ... show more

  • So-so
The media could not be loaded. Fresh out of the box, it sounds as though something may be loose inside the speaker. And getting the trollet handle down is a bit of a struggle. The sound is good, for the price point. Light show is nice add-on.

  • Got a gross used item - covered in animal hair and broken styrofoam. Missing parts.
First, let me say that I am a lifelong fan of Altec Lansing. That's why I am going to first talk about how gross this unit was, and then talk about the unit after I cleaned it up and got it working. As a VINE reviewer, I feel it's very important to be as clear and helpful to other buyers - I want to leave the type of review that I would have used to decide to purchase or not, and be happy with my decision. Getting a used item is kind of a big deal. I actually wouldn't have minded if it were cleaned up and re-packaged and it seemed the same as never opened - I think it is unfair to sellers how people sometimes take advantage of return policies so I am perhaps lenient for that reason. * The unboxing experience - The box had clearly been forced open before. It came of course in an Amazon box. - It was obviously a return that no one checked, or they checked and didn't care. - The unit inside was not bagged, just bouncing around and breaking the styrofoam all around it - which took me 30 minutes to get clean. - The unit was also covered in either cat or dog hair. Normally stuff like that doesn't gross me out too much, but even though I put on gloves to clean it, I just felt yucky. I wish I had taken it outside to open it and clean it, but I never expected it to be so bad. - Although the unit wasn't in a bag, there were a couple bags in stuffed down in the bottom - apparently the used ones from the original opener. - I have no idea what else was in the bags because there was nothing else included - just broken styrofoam, the unit, and the empty plastic bags. - Therefore, the mic was missing. Any cables for charging were missing. Any adapters were missing. Any other cables were missing. There were no instructions, and as this is a new product I didn't find any online. * Listing confusion??? - Possibly a missing stand? I found very little information on this item online, but I did find another one that said it should have a mic and a stand included. But maybe that's a different package. - This listing says that it has 4 hours of battery playback time. The box says 6 hours! Uninterrupted, no less. - This listing states " Plug in the speaker and watch it run on 100-240 AC main power!" - but there is no way to plug in any power except the USB-C plug at 5V. So, that's not quite true. * Getting started with it... - It seemed to have a charge, though I have no idea how much. Most items should be charged to full before the first use, but I figured it wasn't the first use anyway. - Turning the power switch on gave a blue indicator light near the USBC port and a female voice saying: "Powering On. Welcome to Altec Lansing." - I was easily able to pair it with my phone - and I think anyone could who has paired a few bluetooth things. It showed up as "AL Soundrover 50" while scanning from my phone, and connected immediately when I selected it. That part was good. - I tested the draw of the USB-C plug and it consistently drew 8W DC power while charging, regardless of whether it was on and playing music (over bluetooth) or off. * The sound.... While good, I would say this is not up to what I consider Altec Lansing standards. The Bass and Treble knobs do very little - an untrained ear might not even notice. It also doesn't get very loud. 50W can get crazy loud - just ask any guitarist with a 50W tube head. But it's okay. It does have a nice full range and it's not lacking in lows or highs and it's probably a good idea to set it the output where it is if it's to last 6 hours, uninterrupted. If it had more volume, it would have to have more bass, and you could quickly last only an hour or so. Also, with more volume comes more potential for distortion, and this thing sounds clear at max volume. Still, it could be twenty percent louder IMO. I'm not sure how well it would hold it's own outdoors, say against the ambient noise at a pool party. * The physical part. - The "light show" isn't that great. You can select from a few light shows - nothing is that interesting or that bright, but if it doesn't kill the battery it could be good for setting a mood. - The input jack for the microphone is not screwed in straight. That means that someone started it wrong when initially threading it and then tightened it all the way down wrong. Shoddy. - Otherwise, things seemed good quality. The lights aren't super bright, but at night it could be cool. And in the day, it looks nice too. - It has the smaller type of PA mount on the bottom (which most PA stands have or have an adapter for), which is cool. It's supposed to be able to work in stereo mode - TWS up to 2 speakers (why only 2?), but without instructions that might be hard to guess how to do. So it could make a nice little battery powered PA for a smaller party. Or maybe outside Karaoke deep in the woods or something. - With a mixer, it could also be used as a battery powered monitor for small acoustic performances. - Also, since it charges from 5V USB-C, you could probably keep it going for a long time with some charging bank (aka battery brick) strong enough for a phone or more. * What I didn't test. - I didn't test (yet) to see how long before the battery gives up. - I didn't test the microphone, though I considered plugging in a guitar. Maybe I will and will come back and update regarding that. There are buttons on the back that allow you to turn up and down the microphone, but they are also the same buttons NEXT and LAST bluetooth controls. I guess you do long press or double press for one and the other for the other. * Overall. - It's pretty user friendly. I was able to get going without a manual and I think I know most of how to operate it - just without the special details that are in an instruction manual, like don't take this in the shower (though I considered it, it was nasty). - I think I would have given it 5 stars (maybe rounded up) if the unit had been new, but really I have no way of knowing without the other parts and the instructions. I don't think I would give it less than 3 stars based on the price vs what you get. ... show more

  • So useful!
I love this speaker! I got it for karaoke at a party, but we've used it for so many things since. It's basically a portable PA system so it's great for any time you have a crowd and need to be heard. We've used it at garage sales, events at work, and for listening to music in the yard. It's very light and easy to carry, but the wheels and the pop-up handle makes it convenient to pull around. I can't say enough about the speaker - it's made our summer so much more fun! ... show more

  • Poor design, poor manufacturing, good sound
Back in the day (like 50 years ago) Altec Lansing was highly respect for speakers and amplifiers. You wouldn't know it from this item. The sound is OK, it's plenty loud, and the lights would probably add to a party atmosphere. Pairing with my iPhone was no problem. But... 1) I knocked it over, not like off a table or anything--just on the floor, and something came loose inside. I took it apart to see what happened. The battery had apparently been glued in place and it came loose. Eventually it would have broken loose and the whole unit would have been dead (hence the "poor manufacturing" comment). 2) The microphone volume is controlled by pushing teeny buttons--one for louder, one for softer--so you can't see how loud it's set and fine control is impossible. 3) The main volume works on Bluetooth and Aux connections, but doesn't affect the microphone volume. So if you have the mic balanced with the music, then decide to turn the music up...you'll have to adjust the microphone again--very poor design. 4) The tone controls are useless. The bass control has a small effect (but not enough to give that really boomy bottom that folks like these days) and the treble control has no effect at all that I can hear. ... show more

Thats it. Price is not bad. Its loud. Bass is doesnโ€™t have solid sound, Its ok though. Volume is loud. Microphone input works well. Good for karaoke. Multiple color light can be turned on/off.
