For years, I ordered from specialty roasters, coffees rated 95+ of single origina beans, roasted to order. But, hey, when the budget tightens, you find alternatives. This is a delicious coffee for those of us who don't like the darkest/bitter types. Fruity-chocolatey and nutty-chocolatey are my favorite flavor profiles for coffee, so I'm fond of Ethiopian and Brazilian beans. This one is a medium roast described as "fruit notes from Ethiopia, earth tones from Sumatra and chocolaty sweetness from Latin America ." Yeah, I can get behind that. I am very picky when it comes to coffee. I love medium to medium dark roasts as long as they are smooth, not bitter/acidic. This one is great! Will definitely order again!

I ordered this brand for the first time. The bag's "best if used by" date was less than two months away from the date of purchase. The bag looked like it had been around for a while. The coffee beans looked dry. The coffee tasted old and stale. I tried making it three times and adjusted the amount of beans that I used to try to improve taste. Nothing worked so I threw away the remainder of the bag. I do not recommend Allegro. ... show more

The coffee is too acidic and too "bright". It doesn't have the dark, rich taste that I prefer. I gave it three stars because the coffee was fresh and wasn't over roasted. For comparison I much prefer the rich earthy taste I get with Peet's House Blend.

I drive over to Whole Foods every few weeks to specifically buy Allegro coffee and Mary's chicken. I enjoy all the Allegro varieties. For my taste Allegro is better than Starbucks, Peet's or house brands from other stores. I don't expect everybody to agree, this is just my opinion and the reason I go out of my way to purchase it. Now I know I can order it online from Whole Foods I will never be without again (same goes for Mary's chicken). ... show more

So the best-by date was about two months before it was delivered. The coffee did not disappoint however, but I wouldn't have taken this bag if I were in Whole Foods.
