Got this for my son and he loves it. He takes it everywhere. He can play games, watch shows and movies. It's easy to use and was easy to set up for him. I am in control of all his apps and what he can watch. It connects to WIFI with no problem or to a hotspot fairly easily. It's fast and there's no ads as of yet. It's small enough for him to carry with no problem.

We ended up getting our eldest this tablet and he loves it! If you have wifi you can connect to at home or on the move its great. It keeps kid connected quick speed so it doesn't lag at all. It's not user heavy so very easy for your little ones. Set up was also very easy. It's big enough that you can things clearly without it being to big for kids to hold.

I bought this tablet for my son almost 2 years ago. Its a very durable tablet. My son loves it. My only complaint is that when I went to return it, since its cracked and I can no longer access the settings, I dont have an option to have it replaced. Even though its still in the 2 year warranty time frame. It just gives me trouble shoot options. Aside from that though its definitely the best tablet I've bought for a kid.

Update: Amazon emailed me asking me to contact tech support. I did and have updated this review after speaking with them. The basic idea behind the Fire 10 Kids tablet is to let Amazon do all the parenting for you! Amazon will decide what is age-appropriate, suggest books to your kids, and select what websites they can visit. If you actually want to curate what your children access, here are some things you should know: First, the tablet is tied to Kids+. When your kids go into Books, they are offered a huge selection of titles that Amazon has deemed age-appropriate. You cannot curate, filter, or eliminate any of these. You can only set an age range for your child. Once you have, Amazon – not you – decides what is appropriate for a child of that age. The same thing is true with Apps and web browsing. Amazon claims that you can set up web browsing so that your children can visit only white-listed sites you have hand-picked. This is misleading. The Amazon help forum is filled with complaints from parents who have turned on this ‘hand picked’ feature and then can’t find the web browser at all. When you turn on the hand picked website feature, the browser icon disappears. Instead, your child must now go to an icon labeled ‘On this Device,’ which yields a mostly blank screen telling your child to “Talk to an adult about adding content to this device.” If they then click on the search icon (at the top of this blank screen), they get a set of Amazon icons for ‘Adventure’ and ‘Animals,’ etc. If you click on one of these, you get redirected back to a whole library of Kids+ content, but now – 4 lines down, so low that you can’t see it unless you scroll – you get a line labeled ‘Added For You’ that includes the websites you have picked for your child. Thinking of adding books that you have selected from your Kindle Library or downloaded from the public library via an app like Libby? They don’t even appear in the Kids Books app. That is strictly for Kids+ content. Where do you find them? In the same ‘Added For You’ section that is buried 3 layers deep under the On This Device icon. Second, if you unsubscribe for Kids+, you lose much of the tablet’s functionality as a child-friendly device. You can’t actually cancel Kids+ immediately. (It comes with the tablet and even if you unsubscribe the day you get it, the initial 1-year subscription continues for another 364 days.) However, you can unlink the tablet from the subscription or create a new child profile that is not linked to Kids+. Unlinking from Kids+ does eliminate all of the Amazon content. No more Amazon-curated games, books, or videos. But the related icons and apps disappear too. No more Books app, no Apps and Games icon. In fact, without Kids+, the child profile is incredibly clunky. There are a few basic icons: Music, Camera, Call, Announce, Sound Box, and Screen Time – plus On This Device. You can add apps and books from your Amazon account, but they all appear via On This Device. To get to them, you have to go through the same process described above: click on On This Device, get a mostly blank screen, click on the search icon, and then get a series of thumbnails like ‘Adventure’ and ‘Horses and Ponies.’ Only now, if you click on one of those, you get just your downloaded content, without any Amazon offerings. There is no clear reason for this, since if you go to your adult profile, the downloaded apps are right there on the home screen, as independent icons. It seems like Amazon has deliberately crippled the child profile to push you back into the Kids+ ecosystem. Unlinking from Kids+ also effectively kills many of the parent controls on the dashboard. Since the new profile is no longer divided into Apps, Books, etc., you cannot manage your child’s time based on activity. If you want to allow your child 10 minutes of video game time a day, but unlimited reading time, there is no longer a way to implement that effectively. What about reading books in a child profile without Kids+? There is no Books icon anymore when you eliminate Kids+. Where do you find the books you have added from your Amazon library? You guessed it: 3 layers deep under On This Device. There is no way to sort the On This Device content either, so all your books, apps, and websites are listed in one jumble. I thought maybe I could partially fix this by adding the Kindle app to the device, so that my child could get to books by clicking on one app. No luck. Amazon tech support will tell you that you can get Kindle sharing it to your child’s account via the ‘Add content’ feature in the settings. But the Amazon-installed apps don’t appear there, only new apps that you have installed. You can’t actually download the Kindle app to the Fire tablet from the Amazon store (it’s listed as ‘Currently Unavailable’), so there is no way easy way add it. I pointed this out to tech support and they responded “Ohh not to worry Please download from an unknown source.” Really. There’s basically just one redeeming feature in a child profile without Kids+. If you use the 'For You' screen instead of the 'Home Screen,' the downloaded apps to appear on a separate line and your added content 'Added for You' also appears on its own line. So it's usable - but it's also messy. The same apps appear on both lines, and your books are still mixed with the apps in Added for You. Third, you can’t turn an adult profile into a kid-safe experience. The adult profile is the most functional and easily curatable: you can add the apps of your choosing (which appear with icons right on the home screen, just like on a normal mobile device) and you can use Kindle to create a curated library of books. You could set Prime Video for the Kids profile. If you are willing to use a workaround to install Google Play (Wired magazine has some good instructions) you could install a parent-friendly browser. But alas, you can’t remove or disable any of Amazon’s apps. You still have the Silk browser, which is mostly unrestricted. You still have Freevee, with its adult-oriented content. You child could even make purchases via the Shop Amazon app. Bottom line: unless you think Amazon is an awesome parent, this really isn’t a kid-friendly device. It certainly isn’t a parent-friendly one.
