Bad buy very bad computer, after 6 months of bought the laptop stopped charging and became supremely slow, now only works connected and the slowness is horrible, I do not recommend buying this laptop, they would be throwing their money in the trash.

The laptop comes in great, super cushioned Alienware packaging. The screen is a nice size, very viewable and a good size for gaming once I tried it out (had my doubts before I got the laptop that 13" was big enough for gaming...). When I started using the laptop, I was pleased with it almost immediately - nobody has ever mentioned that the keyboard font style is different...it's cool looking, and seem to read a bit larger than normal. Very, very handy when using in the dark. Another cool aspect is the led lighting...you can use any color for the keyboard and highlight spots (back of monitor, alien head...etc). The laptop is quiet and doesn't get super hot...a welcomed feature as you could fry an egg on my OLD laptop! The speakers sound OK, got a bit crackly when raised to high, this is best used with external speakers to really take advantage of the SoundBlaster sound system. The laptop is a little bit on the heavier side but that's to be expected due to its construction… But with the small size it's really not really an issue at all... I would rather feel some heft then than a cheap plastic laptop. Also, the touch pad is nice and responsive...it has a tactile texture to it. I like that you can scroll by using 2 fingers and dragging up and down to navigate web pages (screw screen scroll bars!). Of course, last but not least...it games REALLY well! I mean, that's why you're looking at this thing in the 1st place. Yes...there are better laptops out there, but they're significantly BIGGER and heavier. You're buying something comfortably portable that allows you to take your gaming with you...couple this with a nice mouse and head set...and you're golden. The laptop handles games great...right now I'm running Ark: Survival Evolved (check out the game on YouTube)...it's a high demand game due to all the foliage and open world environment. I have it running on high at a smooth frame rate...it could run in epic mode but frame rate drops a bit. If it runs Ark this well...most all else out there will run like a breeze. Bottom line is, this is a great little laptop that handles the same stuff the bigger laptops do, you benefit from the portability side and a great form factor. I travel a lot for work but am an avid gamer...this enables me to game on the go without having to drop my games graphic settings to "minecraft" mode...hehe, you know what I mean! Keyboard is very clear, larger letters with a cool looking, star-Trekky font style, night lit keys, cool led colors, solid metal space grey shell...need I say say more? Oh, and it's an Alienware, so you'll look badass when you pull it out...own being a gamer! Hope the review helped! ... show more

Perfect for work/gaming. I would recommend you configure it for Full HD, i5, and 500gb + 8gb hybrid. Why? The gtx 960 cant drive the wxga screen. If you code or do media editing youll need the wxga for the space/view. wxga also means more battery usage. About the trackpad issues: Yes they are very real, and I experienced them on day 2. Simple fix, update the trackpad drivers == job done. The trackpad is not a mac trackpad, but much better than what I had set my expectations at. Palm rejection is very good. And it tracks very well. Its not great... but its not bad either. (I still have my macbook pro so Im comparing from actual usage) If your looking for an excellent value for money, a very capable portable gaming laptop, this is it. (At < usd 1000) Its not too heavy, and it looks a lot better in person than it does online. Keyboard is amazing, silent, and good travel. I love typing on this (typing this review on my 13r2) Graphics: I mostly play mobas, and hextcg.com on the go, it does those very well. If you need more, you can buy a graphics amplifier (external GPU) for usd 200 or less I use my desktop to game at home though.. but hey, its nice to have the option. Conclusion? Certainly go ahead and buy this! If you now how to update drivers, you wont regret it. ... show more

So far I am very disappointed with how this laptop is unable to drive external monitors. Every time I switch from one user account to another the screens flicker and doesn't work. Disconnecting external monitor also doesn't help. I have to restart the system to get it to work again. It feels & looks solid, but is terrible in terms of usability. For how expensive this laptop is I was expecting something way better. I will try couple more days, if it still behaves the same I will sure return it. I wanted to add more issues that I am seeing. 1. Frequent crashes when switching user. This is serious issue. Screen goes blank and doesn't respond. The only way to recover is to do a hard restart potentially losing any data. Read online for most of Dell & Alienware laptops doing this. 2. Wake up from sleep/hibernation is a joke. Frequent blue screens. Lost work in progress atleast couple of times. 3. Cannot adjust brightness when using Nvidia graphics. Default uses Intel graphics and user has no control on that. Disable Intel graphics in device manager and forced to use Nvidia. Nvidia control panel keeps thinking it is not running Nvidia graphics and throws an error at launch. 4. Cannot adjust the brightness of screen when using Nvidia graphics. FN+F9/F10 does nothing. Again common issue with all Dell & Alienware laptops... 5. Synaptics trackpad stops working atleast couple of time everyday, only way to recover is restart. Apparently there is an issue with driver. ... show more

I really wanted to like this but the trackpad is the worst I've experienced on a laptop, and I've owned many. I talked to Dell's Costa Rica tech support and they had me upload the latest drivers and bios updates but in the end it did not work correctly. It had intermittent issues - when moving your finger across it, it didn't respond. For the price they charge for these this shouldn't be an issue. How difficult can it be to understand how a good trackpad works and design and build it so your product offers that? I got a great price on a lightning deal on this but even so, in the end I had to send it back for having a defective trackpad. ... show more

Make sure you update the drivers right after first startup. Very fast machine even with the hybrid drive. I run this next to my still running 14 and it's much faster. Never had a hard drive problem before their drives preform well and save you a bit of cash. Paid about 1100 for this compared to a mac it's an insanely good deal for the specs. ... show more
