  • BEST MPC FOR ME!! Better than MPC 1000
Amazing! I used to own an MPC1000 about six years ago. This has all the same functions and the backlit screen is way better. If you've used an MPC before, its just like riding a bike-I was back in the swing of it real quick. Once I load my pads with the samples I want, I rarely look up at my laptop. You can actually assign samples to your pads from the hardware screen on the MPC STUDIO. There is a file browser button. I've done this a few times, but typically you'll need to get started on the laptop until you create your programs with desired samples. Once you do that you just open the software and double click on the programs (kits) you want to load, then you can do everything right from the MPC. It does function as a generic midi controller in other DAWs, but the q-link knobs don't translate in fruity loops10 because they're touch sensitive. I haven't been able to use it as a VST for some reason, it just doesn't show up in my vst plugins through my other software programs. You can name your sequence and tracks through the software and it instantly displays on your MPC window. On the MPC 1000 everything onboard so you name them using the scroll wheel. With this I think you have to use the software. Its faster anyway. You can assign colors to different pads, like RED-KICK, ORANGE-TOM, GREEN-High Hat to help you as a visual reference during playback and recording. If you're familiar with MPC and want something portable, buy this. The included software is great, and the MPC is very quick and responsive on my dual core hp laptop with 6GB memory. This will get you off the mouse and ... show more

  • Finally I got a real sampler that can do it.
I bought a Yamaha su 20 sampler in 1995 which had filter, pitch, 12 different pads like MPC but the overdub deal with MPC was not a option. Factory content got me going but for now I choose to be original and make my own samples. More fun and feeling of accomplishment. You need a $50 Behringer usb sampler when buying however which actually works. Click preferences when it comes up and click again ok and now your in business. Plug your speakers into the headphone jack in the usb mixer to get sound. Plug into the 2-Track RCA slot in the USB mixer with RCA to headphone 1/8 in. to source to sample from like a I-Phone, Android, or whatever. I also use Sony Sound Forge to make MP3 tracks but supposedly workstation MPC can do it but that is a mystery. In addition to that I have a small Gemini DJ pre-amp mixer (Again I plug into the headphone cue with Altec speakers (needs 1/4 in. adapter)) which will go for less than a $100. Get the short 3 feet cables for headphone (1/8 inch) to RCA from Radio Shack or elsewhere but make sure their the $10 sturdy ones (white and red), metal gold not necessary. I record onto a mini disc recorder with a plug in (1/8 inch) which can be bought through Amazon.com. I have two by Sony (MZ-N707)&(MZ-S1) which has a back orange light where the other has no light but more sound bars and more refined bass and treble settings. I record manual mode increasing optimum output with all sound bars full and right click send on MPC Track Mixer increasing the 4 volumes to 12. Don't forget to check the many sound effects on the program mixer which gives you 128 tracks recording mixing capability. After mini disc recording, I play it back into sound forge making a MP3 track. If you want to flex a mic, Behringer has a $50 phantom powered mic you can voice over the beat you just made (Behringer C-1) maybe not the best quality but works decent and can be purchased through Amazon.com. Don't forget to order a phantom mic cable as the mic does not come with one but does come with a cool plastic carrying case. Also the MPC I got came with the coolest red neoprene zipper carrying case as mentioned before as it is portable. This is NYC however and your pushing your luck bringing computers and MPC's outside. Police are on site at Apple stores in NYC because the I Phone is such a targeted item by thieves (BE WISE). Thank me later. Make sure you have Windows 7 and at least 2 Ghz on your lap top which I use or Mac. or OS. Be proud to have the name which many famous producers have become legends like Pete Rock, Premier, Lord Finesse, Kanye West, Quest Love (The Roots), plus who knows who else. No complaints whatsoever. I have no desire to look for anything else. Completely satisfied. Peace to everybody out there doing their thing trying to take sampled music production to the next level as we evolve. Note MPC did two updates since I bought the MPC STUDIO. All went well and if anything improved the product and at the same time made it more fun by making it more user friendly. Enjoy the wonderful world of MPC world. ... show more

  • Great way to create awesome drum tracks.
I primarily use the MPC studio for creating drum tracks but this controller can do much more. The "Studio can also be used as a standalone production sequencer. Many times I have been working on a drum pattern and found it easier to just open some plugins, build tracks, layer sounds and edit effects right from the MPC. Allowing for my progress on a project to not be impeded by a stagnate work flow. Even newbies to the MPC world will find it pretty straight forward. Given the ease of use and integration with any DAW I recommend the MPC Studio to anyone. If you have already invested into the N.A.echo system then I would say go with Maschine; but at the price point of the Studio, it makes more sense to get with the MPC if you haven't. ... show more

  • Very nice! Software can be confusing to some.
I've owned this for a few years now and I still can't complain too much about it. The software for it is pretty much junk and they make it much more confusing than it needs to be. Even though the software gets regular updates it still tends to be a little confusing when trying to do the most simple tasks. I would purchase this again though just for the fact that I have learned many new things just by goofing off and playing around with it. The hardware is pretty nice itself but I think Akai really fell short when it comes to he software. ... show more

  • No driver for OS9?!
Arrived quickly. I followed the directions step by step and...my Mac won't see the unit. Night after night, I tried every different install and config. Nothing. I wrote to Akai. Nothing. So I finally called. They wrote me and offered the stock answer: "follow the directions." Thanks. After a Google search or two, I came across an Akai forum full of people just like myself: frustrated that their brand new MCP didn't work. Turns out, Akai hasn't released a driver for OS9, and their answers in the forums skirted the questions about possible release dates. Bottom line: will not work with OS9. I've had it a month, and it's now a $400 paperweight. ... show more

  • Very inspirational!
This mpc is software based. It only has midi in and out plus a usb connector for power. If you need analog ins and outs you need to buy the mpc renaissance. Quality of the pads is very good, workflow is awesome and creates new inspiration "a new look on making music". This is by far the best investment Iv'e made thus far in music equipment when comparing money vs quality. It comes with 2 built in Akai VST's but you can also host your own vsts in the software. You can also load a program kit to the drum pads then replace each pad with one of your own library sounds to make your own kits and save them to the library. Tons of quality all around from the hardware itself to the sounds that it comes with. ... show more

  • I feel like Kanye
Love it, simple to use and works amazing. I would have changed the screen though, I say that because the whole machine has this nice futuristic look to it, abd the screen looks like it was made in the 1960's, it's like a Ps4 with super Nintendo graphics. But that doesn't take away from the amazing functions. The only problem I ran into was using the extra disk, they wouldn't go on my computer, but other than that it's really great. I'll be using this for a while abd I recommend anybody why I'd trying to get it to get it, it's worth the money. And if you want the MPC renaissance than don't get this, just save and get that, I with I had done that bc I really want it now. At first I figured if I bought the big one I would be lost since it was my first beat machine ever. But after I seen how easy it was I could have just gotten the big one. I'm currently saving to get a MPC REN. ... show more
