I am mostly happy with this item. I ordered this to introduce my kids to what it used to be like before streaming services and smartphones and it definitely does that. Unfortunately maybe a little too well. I felt that the sound quality was lacking. It is true that it is similar to small radios I had back in the day but for this price I was expecting a little better sound quality. This has virtually no bass at all. In fact turning the tone control does nothing except make it sound like a clock radio. Right now I'm just using it as a bluetooth speaker for watching TV in bed on my tablet. Where it really shines is the new added features we didn't have back then. The bluetooth works great and it's really cool to be able to record on tape from multiple sources. If making mix tapes is your primary goal then you'll love it. It works great for that. If you're looking for good sound quality you might want to look elsewhere. Construction wise it really feels well built. It's surprisingly heavier than I expected it to be and the plastic feels solid and durable. The red color is very striking and it looks really nice overall. If the sound quality had been a little better I would've given it 5 stars. I know it's a retro product but older jam boxes had better bass response than this. Especially when you can get bluetooth speakers in this price range that blow this away sound wise. And they would be rechargeable too and not rely on batteries. Overall I give it 4 stars and would give it 4.5 if it was an option. I realize they are walking a tight rope trying to decide whether to deliver modern sound quality or an authentic retro experience. Maybe I'm just so spoiled by modern technology that I don't remember how bad it was back then. Either way for the money the sounds quality just wasn't there for me. I'd definitely recommend this if your main goal is to experience the retro feel of an old boom box and let your kids play with your old tape collection. If sound quality or the lack of a recharging function are important to you then you might not be happy with it. ... show more

I wanted a small boombox to carry around the house while doing chores from time to time. The good: The looks of this device is simply unbeatable. It has an 80s aura. I got the red one with black and silver parts. It shines in the room. Is small, sturdy, and apparently has actual metal parts in it, which is becoming increasingly rare in modern electronics. The box is also nice, and even the user manual is printed in good paper. It seems to be durable, and it can get loud for its size. Radio reception is fairly good in my experience, in AM as well in FM. The sound is crystal-clear. The bad: 1. It has definitely NO AUX port! Which is strange, since even on the box itself it says that it has an AUX port. Well, no, it doesn't. The fact that it is announced on the box bring some doubts on the quality control. I can hardly imagine something like this in a renowned brand like Sony or Panasonic. 2. Two speakers and no FM stereo. It's a shame, but is an illness spread between current boomboxes this size. 3. The sound. Yes, it is neat and crystal clear, with good reception, and can get loud, but it doesn't cut the mustard for me. It lacks bass. The sound is clear, but to me it sounds almost like a couple of pocket radios put together, with the bass knob turned all way up. If I turn it down, it sounds like a cell phone. Old school jazz, some classical music, sports radio broadcast, all of them I enjoy listening in this device. But rock with distorted guitars, for example, is for me insufferable in this thing. I find myself invariably turning volume down after a minute or so. I bought last year a small WIITHINK boombox, about the same size as this one and not even the half so good looking. But it's a bit cheaper, it has 2.5 times the output power of this one, and it has some bass, so it's not tiresome to the ears and music is still enjoyable in it. I'll stick with that one. It's pointless to buy a boombox if you don't enjoy listening to it, no matter how good it looks or how well is it built. ... show more
