I installed this AISIN thermostat while performing cooling system maintenance on my 2012 Subaru Outback 2.5i. If you're familiar with Subaru parts sourcing, you'll likely recognize the AISIN name. AISIN is one of the manufacturers that supplies components to Subaru for factory assembly, so in many cases you're getting the same part that would come from the dealership, just without the Subaru packaging and markup. The thermostat fit perfectly and matched the original unit in both dimensions and operating temperature. Installation was straightforward, and I appreciated that the gasket was included. There's nothing worse than getting halfway through a repair and realizing you need to make another trip for a seal or gasket. The construction quality is excellent. The thermostat feels substantial and well-made, with none of the concerns I sometimes have when using bargain aftermarket cooling system parts. Since replacing a thermostat requires draining coolant and investing time in the repair, I prefer using components from manufacturers with a strong OEM reputation. AISIN is a well known OEM for Subaru and other Asian manufacturers. You're just as likely to find their name stamped on a part as you are to receive it in a Subaru box. If you want to go with a quality part without paying the dealer, AISIN is a good option. I've used a bunch of their parts over the years, this thermostat included, and have never found them inadequate. It includes the required seal so you don't have to buy one either. This thermostat is the OEM temperature at 195F. In most cases, this is the temp you want to run at. ... show more

Works great so far haven't noticed any issues with it I do drive a Subaru outback and I've noticed no issues. So yes I would recommend this for sure.

I caught it on camera if I did not see my package on camera someone would have taken it just because it was so close to sidewalk. Then product was missing 2 of 3 main screws that hold on the jelly to the plastic vessel. But I had few screws same size and work on cars so I'm pretty well off when it comes to fixing things. Product probably is good but I won't leave a review for that. Just bad service and bad craftsmanship I hope they don't mess up this often. Anyway it's simple to just leave on a porch and place 3 screws where they should be. Hope they learn for next time .ppl ugh

The old one lasted 197,000 miles. On the 2012 Subaru Legacy it was very easy to install. I have a computer module that sends data to my phone. And the new thermostat maintained the temperature within a couple degrees. Apparently this is a very, very good brand per MY mechanic. Please see the photos of the old one. It looks brand new, doesn’t it? But it has 197,000 miles on it. I had never changed the water. ... show more

Unfortunately missed the return window by 2 days because I had the car to the garage 2 times for overheating trying to figure out why. Turns out this thermostat would not open all the time which caused me to overheat 2 times in my travels while it was in. Bought the factory one and no problems, I was told to stick to factory when it comes to thermostats on a Subaru. Use your best judgment ... show more
