  • Great Picture, Mounting on Back of Monitor is not supported with hardware included.
First, the picture is about what I expected for a monitor at this price point: It is actually quite clear. At a resolution of 800x480, it renders a picture about as well as it could be rendered at this size. The important part of the resolution specification is that it matches what your camera can supply to the monitor. One way to think of it is if only one of the two devices has great resolution and the other has low resolution will result in low resolution, no matter which of the two is superior or inferior. Adjusting the picture settings (brightness, contrast, saturation, and tint) did not result in a marked difference except for the brightness. In other words, all but one of the picture settings were nearly useless. One setting I found quite useful was the rotation setting, which rotates the orientation of the picture so that if you mount it upside-down, you can set the picture right side up. I connected a couple of cameras to the monitor and gave it 12 volts DC. The pictures were immediately available once the monitor was turned on. The monitor is able to be controlled with the buttons on the front panel or with the included IR remote. The remote did not seem the most powerful nor did it register all the time from varying angles. I personally find using a remote in the car when the device is within arms reach to be annoying - I would rather use the buttons on the device. Electrical connections are very easy, using composite video through RCA connectors. This is the most common type of connector for small cameras used in this type of application, and the connections were reliable. As far as mounting, it comes with a plastic surrounding that can be set into a flat surface. I did not use it, but I did see how securely the monitor snaps in and how good it looks - good on both counts! With regard to the mount that is like the part of a tripod you mount your camera onto (called the head), it seems decent but I find it rather unattractive. This is not much of an issue for me since I am in process of designing a mount that will use a channel that is cut in the back of the monitor, which I will 3D print. This is because I have a bracket onto which I want to mount the monitor, but there is no way that I can with the hardware supplied. I figured I would need to do this anyway, so I am not disappointed. I am pleased with the size of this monitor so I can switch between my dashcam with four cameras and my aftermarket Bluetooth hands free kit monitor. Although it is sold for backup cams, it can be used for any compatible signal! ... show more

  • 4.75 stars, For a Pi
The Raspberry Pi system(s) are pretty neat, even if I am ignorant on the software side of things, more so than not. My combo of the Pi 400 and 4B really need a monitor and this is ideal for that function. And it also has a wide range of optional uses as well, that is part of why I picked this one over others. At 33$ it is much more affordable than a lot of other options. It works just fine, quality image/picture and all the rest are what one expects, and maybe a little more. I really like components that have multiple applications, as this one is. ... show more
