Let me start by saying that unlike a lot of reviewers, I have not tried a billion different pillows. I had had the same one for years. I ultimately went looking for a new one after getting serious about improving my posture and reducing my back and neck pain. I corrected various aspects of my posture to the point where they no longer require thought to do, but the curled shoulder blades and forward neck are still a problem area. Part of it is that the neck is harder to correct than something like anterior pelvic tilt because you have to be constantly thinking about it rather than only when standing, but I also knew that my habit of sleeping in the tightest ball I could possibly manage was definitely making it worse and was causing me unnecessary pain. For a long time I've been trying to train myself to sleep on my back in hopes of correcting my horrific ultra fetal position, so I went looking for a cervical pillow that would make it more comfortable. I have yet to truly focus on trying to sleep on my back so I have not had results there yet, but I have discovered the other benefits for posture this pillow provides for side sleepers and I may not even necessarily have to switch to back sleeping for good in order to fix my problems. Firstly, the pillow is very soft. It's quite similar to my old memory foam pillow but not nearly as flimsy and floppy, in a good way--I can't try to reshape it into something that would allow me to easily sleep with my neck all tucked in, though I have caught myself trying to rotate the pillow to accomplish this. The pillow is shaped with a divot in the middle for your head, a more raised left and right, and with a curved end for your shoulders. I like the part for my shoulders because I don't have to scrunch the pillow up underneath to accommodate them. The divot has actually been my favorite aspect of the pillow--for someone who is constantly subconsciously trying to sleep with their head forward, the divot lets me know where my head is actually supposed to be. The raised sides also discourage me from resting my head on them. The only issue with the form factor that I have encountered is not really knowing where to put my arms. In the photos in the listing, you can see that you have to have your arm(s) pretty far forward. I usually end up tucking my arms under the pillow a little bit, raising it up. The pillow comes with a cover specifically for it, which is nice because as other reviewers have mentioned, it will wiggle itself out of a regular pillow case with a hole in one end a little bit. I don't find this to be a huge deal. Back to firmness and thickness, I do think some people would not enjoy this pillow. It is "thin" compared to many pillows (in terms of height), but it's not any thinner than the one I had, and I think you'd have to have an extremely hard mattress to feel it was too thin. I do think potential buyers should consider if their head really should be on a thicker pillow, or if this pillow is thin for a reason. I have a very sensitive sense of smell and didn't notice any unpleasant chemical smell by the time I went to bed a couple hours later. It probably helps that I did put my pillow case over it, but even that wouldn't have stopped a particularly strong scent had it existed. Finally, I think the price is really good for a pillow that I love so much. It's very inexpensive compared to some similar ones I considered. I'm glad I chose this one.

Super soft and dreamy. I personally would prefer more thickness for the shoulder when sleeping on my side. I've added a flat travel pillow underneath to raise the overall height so I don't crumple my shoulder and create unwanted old person chest crease wrinkles. I feel it is beautifully suited to back sleeping rather than side sleeping for this reason. I'm not unhappy with this purchase. I'll try to make myself back sleep more often which is preferred by most Drs.

It was time to get new pillows for the bed and this one caught my attention because a) I resolved to get a foam pillow after several friends over the years had positive things to say about them; b) the reviews were mostly positive from fellow side-sleepers. The pillow is shipped tightly rolled up in the box so it has to have an hour or so to regain its proper shape. I used that time to wash the pillow cover that comes with it. Unlike some others, I didn’t detect an a plastic or rubber odor from the pillow out of the box. The pillow cover is just that, a cover, not a pillow case as it’s described in the copy. The cover is designed to stay in place and that it does. There was a slight learning curve for me for something as basic as removing it and then putting it back on after it was washed and dried (which may say something about me lol). The pillow cover has an opening on the top side (not on an end) that corresponds with the pillow core or head cradle (the center of the pillow where most people will lay their head). It’s not difficult or a chore but you have to pay attention to what you’re doing or you’re gonna have to redo it. With the pillow cover on I put the pillow in a standard queen pillow case and looked forward to giving a go that night. Like with every other new pillow I have laid my head on, I have to experiment with positioning until I find the “just right” Goldilocks place for my head and neck. It didn’t take long until I was satisfied with the position. I use CPAP. Several years ago I finally found a mask and headgear that is comfortable for me but a standard pillow isn’t forgiving with it on. It’s the first thing I noticed when I laid my head on this pillow: the mask and pillow became one. If there’s such a thing as comfort while using CPAP this is it. I haven’t experienced any special cooling effect with this pillow. I attribute it to using the pillow cover and pillow case leaving little chance of air circulation and moisture wicking. OTH, I haven’t noticed increased warmth or discomfort so maybe it’s doing what is claimed and my theory is disproven. Bottom line: as side-sleeping, CPAP-using guy I’m sold on this pillow.
