This is a good spreader. I wanted something a little bigger than my Scott’s broadcast spreader, but I’m not sure that I got one that is better. The assembly was not straightforward, but with the help of YouTube and the book, I was able to get it together in about an hour. I did have to go back and retighten the bolts in the handle, but now it feels sturdy. I like the precision that you get for the window setting and it is much easier than the Scott’s brand to set. However, You will have to do some trials to figure out the best setting, since the bag doesn’t have a setting for this spreader. Just make sure you close the window before adding your product to the hopper! The spreader throws the product well and evenly, including on your feet, but I have never spread fertilizer without getting some on my feet, even with a drop spreader! I believe there is a shield that you can purchase or make to prevent this. Overall, I’d say it will get the job done and is an ok value. I keep the spreader in my garage and use it about 5 times a year max, so the spreader is going to last longer than I am and am happy with this purchase.

Updates below Positives: large capacity, metal rods, and large tires Negatives: Terrible assembly instructions, wobbly design, inconsistent dispersion pattern The assembly instructions include only pictures with no descriptive text. They also show pictures of each part, but the pictures aren’t scaled properly, so it was difficult to be sure that I was using the correct bolt, pin, etc. The instructions also were out of order. After the first few steps, I had to stop and disassemble what I had done because the next step required having an additional person to hold things together while I flipped it over to follow the next step. In the end, I was able to finish the assembly after performing them in a new order. But this still left a problem with the wobbly design. I re-checked all the attachments to ensure they were tight, but the handle is still wobbly. After looking closely at the handle, I saw that it is a por design that prevents further tightening. The handle tube goes inside a tube in the base and then a bolt goes through both to hold them together. I would have to de-form the tube on the base to get it to tighten on the handle tube. This spreader also has a poor dispersion pattern and lacks good control of the amount dropped into the spinner. After initial assembly, I used it to spread grass seed. I started on setting “4,” but that didn’t disperse enough seed. At “5,” there seemed to be no change. At “6,” the seed came out dramatically faster – I didn’t have enough seed to do the yard on that setting. I went back to “4” and noticed that the spreader also dispersed much more seed to the left than to the right. I have some fertilizer to spread soon – I’m wondering of my yard will have stripes in the Spring. I recommend looking for another spreader or buying it from a store who assembles it for you. UPDATE 1 (20 days) Upgraded from 2 to 3-stars. Before returning it, I decided to tighten all the bolts to their maximum amount to se if that would fix the wobbliness - it did. While this fixes one problem, it reinforces my opinion of the poor instructions. The dispersion pattern for fertilizer was better than for grass seed, but still MUCH more to the left than to the right. This pattern meant that I had to overlap the area that was thinly covered. I will keep it, but I am concerned about the long-term impacts of tightening the bolts (tight enough to deform the tubes that they pass thru). UPDATE 2 (3 years): 2 things to note … I still have and use it when needed, so it is lasting … except that I needed to replace the transmission/gearbox last year. It was more cost-effective than buying a new one. I faced the same challenges as when it was new - poor instructions - but it was do-able with some extra time and patience.

*****absolute honest review ahead, don’t read if you want to continue and buy junk. Missing axle. Started putting together the spreader but saw the axle was missing. But before I even saw that the axle was missing, I was already thinking of returning it. It Really is cheaply made. I see comments of people loving the tires but those tires are cheap $3.99 at harbor freight for the same ones. Bolts are too long in a few places and could cause safety hazards. The chute is the absolute worst. It’s a Piece of plastic that slides but bends so easily that the little bit of bracket they use to move it pops out. Hopper plastic is warped and makes the plastic slide stick. Even when closed I can see gaps through it where seed or fertilizer will drop through. It will spread 360 degrees. I guess I want a product that sprays chemicals and seed on my feet as I’m pushing it!! For those that say” buy the deflector” , that should be standard with the spreader. The paint job looks like it was done with a spray can and comes scratched all over with paint runs everywhere. It will rust and not last long. Oh yea those instructions are a joke. Just the first step is written out and then I guess they forgot to finish writing the rest. Easy enough to put together if you work with your hands. Handle doesn’t tighten unless you really crank on the bolts and bend the tubes flat. There are better products out there and I’d suggest getting those. The dispensing part of the spreader is crucial and this one doesn’t cut it. At this point I can’t think of any positives about this spreader except that maybe they would send you spare parts within the 3 years relatively fast.

Ok so I was a little hesitant due to some of the lower scores, but nothing like what I read. Ok putting it together. Didn't even have to read the directions picture and parts identifier were enough. Took all of 40 minutes and I had ALL the parts. As for being loose. Nope, My guess is the guy doesn't have enough muscle to thighten it down. Nice and guiet, rolled easily, spread well. Much better than the Chapman I purchased for $111 and ended bring it back. I'd definitely buy it again. Don't blame the tool for "operator error"

Spreader seems to be well made. Assembly instructions are terrible. Good drop control with the solid adjustment bar. Spreads evenly and bigger tires than most lower end spreaders makes it easier to push.

I purchased a larger Agri-Fab spreader before which lasted 20 years.... they don't build em like the used to! I wanted a slightly smaller machine to make going up a hilly yard easier, plus the gears in my old one started skipping. The 45-0532 didn't even resemble its older brother. The machine shoots a lot more product out of the right side versus the left. Consequently, I had burn lines all over the place. Also, the assembly is very difficult! The directions are 95% picture only so they can print instructions in about 10 different languages. Once assembled, I found that no matter how tight you tighten the bolts, the handle and control arm loosen up. Clear sign this machine has no longevity. Hence, I shipped it back for a refund. Don't buy it!

Perhaps I am just spoiled with things coming preassembled or mostly assembled but this came completely disassembled in 50+ parts. I’ll be honest- I’m a really handy guy and it this was really difficult to put together and required having to disassemble and reassemble multiple times to get right. I know coming completely disassembled saves boxing room and allows small boxes for easier and cheaper shipping but perhaps they can find a way to preassemble this so it isn’t quite a chore to assemble. Beyond assembling, this is a great spreader and makes fertilizing a breeze. Overall, I highly recommend it.
