    • Decent out of box, much better when sanded, cleaned, relubed
Out of the box they don't have a super smooth glide, but they'll get the job done. Doing a cleanup on them makes them 5x better. Start off by wiping it down with isopropyl alcohol. Make sure you retract it back and forth and clean all the rails, gaps, etc. Your rag should come up quite dirty, as these look clean, but are quite filthy after a deep clean. My rag had to be throw out, as the clean ended up perm staining it. Next, put a tiny bit of any metal safe lube on all the friction points (around plastic display edges, the inner horizontal wheel track, the rail track on the back of caliper). I used some stuff that came with my 3d printer for lubing metal rails. Now sanding, well friction sanding that is. Do this without sandpaper. Just tighten the the screw on the top of the caliper until its snug, but not overly snug. You want to be able to tighten it, while still having being able to retract with a rough/skippy travel. Now run the caliper on the rail back and forth like you're measuring big then small things at a medium speed. You should feel friction and jump stops. This is due to tolerance levels of a cheap product like this rubbing. Run the caliper back and forth on the rail at varying tightness of the top screw. You essentially want to sand every tightness level by rubbing the metals together to make them glide better. Be very careful not to overdo this sanding at the tighter screw levels, as you want some friction on those levels, as they are for dialing in precise steps using the wheel. Add more lube as you go if needed, as the heat from the friction might dry it up depending on how much was applied. After you have a smooth gliding rail from closed to open, you just need a final cleanup. Don't use alcohol, you want to keep all that oil you rubbed into the grooves from the friction sanding. Just lightly rub the entire tool down with some toilet paper and your toilet paper should pickup the dirt from the sanding. After put a few more dabs of lub on all friction spots (don't forget inner wheel rail, open close it a few times, then wipe it down lightly with fresh tp, don't soak up all the oil, but clean it up enough to where it isn't super greasy to the touch). ... show more

Overall, it does what it says. Accuracy in inches and mm seem to be accurate. That is all I really needed it for. The package case was broken. You can see in the pic that the hinges of the case were snapped off. Also. there seems to be a cover missing where some device plugs into it. Not sure how this would of happened unless it was used and returned because the black case has a cardboard sleeve that goes over it and for these things to happen, you would have to have taken it out. Also the cover for the battery seems it would also get lost eventually, since it easily slides off with a slight touch. So I can see how the other plug-in cover was missing. If you want to know what that plug-in is for, You got me, because I do not know the answer. ... show more

I bought this because it was inexpensive and I need something to measure gemstones to make mountings for them. And there are various other things, metric or English units, such as hardware items and furniture and car parts, that it's just nice to be able to slap a caliper on and take a measurement of right then and there. This unit is a little large and I'd prefer one that's physically smaller. But the price was right, it works great, and it meets my current needs. It seems accurate enough, in under 10mm range, when I checked its results against some gemstones that had already been measured with higher grade calipers. This was affordable and it comes with a nice storage & carrying case. I recommend it. ... show more

    • Didn’t live very long

I purchased the caliper in march of 2025. Initially, I was very pleased with the quality and feel. My only issue was that after zeroing the jaws, they would read something other than zero (+/- .001). A few months later, I noticed that the display would come on randomly after turning it off. This led to the battery dying prematurely. Shortly after that the issues got worse. The display started to exhibit a few different failures: one or two lines of the led digits would not illuminate, it didn’t respond when off was pressed, it wouldn’t zero, the display would illuminate random bars. Sometimes, it would work properly after removing and replacing the battery and battery dirt. Sometime it didn’t. The cycle of failures is frequent enough that I don’t feel confident that the now temporary reasonable readings are accurate. It’s now Feb 22 2026. I’d like to return it under warranty. But the warranty is 30days. 30 days for a digital caliper??? Wish I’d noticed that sooner. I suspect that the circuit died from static discharge or a poor connection (from insufficient design verification?). When I looked for customer support, I wasn’t able to find any.
