    • These switches are easy to install and work great
I used to be a professional alarm installer and service tech back in the late 60's and 70's. Back then the Ademco Number 39 switch was the very common and very reliable contact to use. Much later on the Ademco 940 Magnetic reed switches were the ones I started using. Anything that had the Ademco name on it was good in my opinion. back then, I had an account with Ademco and was able to buy directly from them. These days you need a contractors licence to purchase from them as well as any professional alarm supply company. I was happy to see Amazon selling these Honeywell/Ademco alarm contact switches and hope they are as reliable as what I previously used. The ONLY problems I had with my order was with the Amazon delivery service getting my package delivered: 2 days too late, 2 delivery transit errors as seen on the tracking system and the Delivery van's GPS tracking, and them coming up with lame excuses. Installed this on my rear sliding door. Works well with my ADT Safewatch Pro 3000. I wish I had read the description more closely, I don't like there's no cover for the screws terminals.

The magnet is good and strong so I had no reliability issues with this. The magnet opens the circuit at about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch away. I liked that the double sided tape was pre-installed as this made installation go faster. The circuit is normally closed with the magnet in proximity. Q&A for this item suggests that it is Normally Closed -short until magnet approaches and opens the contacts. Not so! It is in fact NO. This configuration is no good to switch on an LED light when the door is opened: i.e. switch it open with the magnet adjacent and when the door opens and the magnet moves away, the switch closes and the light turns on. ... show more
