  • Excellent Gaming PC!
Size: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Style: PC
This Is A fantastic gaming pc, you get some serious bang for your buck! But like everyone else mention it is undercooled and the processor does like to get hot. Has a Crappy Stock Cooling unit that cools the processor, Other than that its great! Can do pretty much anything you want it to do and play anything over 100fps depending on graphic settings in games, and with the components built into it, it would cost much more to build it yourself if you were to replicate it. Only thing I can suggest is a better stock cooling unit like a Noctua, to bring temps down to 60 or 70 c in extreme gaming, and maybe a new psu but so far, the 500w psu it came with is handling the graphics card (rtx3070) which is also fantastic. ... show more

  • Misleading, runs extremely hot and suffers from lacklustre cooling that needs to be addressed Misleading, runs extremely hot and suffers from lacklustre cooling that needs to be addressed
Size: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Style: PC
Buyers need to be very aware that this system has significant build issues that needs to be addressed, I'll go into better detail below. Like many others looking for an upgrade for their gaming rigs in a very unkind market right now, I was shopping around and normally wouldn't choose a pre-build because of a history of poor design and cut corners, and unfortunately the Acer Predator is just that. The specs appear quite reasonable for $1700 with a decent I7-11700F 'and' a RTX 3070? The issues though that really hold back this system and even actually require a further investment to fix the problem to prevent severe system degradation and possible instability down the line. Playing Call of Duty warzone, or Cyberpunk 2077 at ultra settings and I would totally expect temperatures to be in the 80s even with fairly good cooling, but 80s when just simply browsing the internet and/or in an idle state these temperatures are not good. Now could that be due to faulty fan and thermal paste? The box was shipped actually poorly, the desktop was placed in a giant box without any extra packing and the box clearly had some dents, but that being said stock intel cooling options are just not good enough for this processor. Firstly, with the desktop idle with power management set to 99% lowering the CPU frequency significantly and lowers the CPU temperature to a more stable level, when gaming I still had this hit around 50C which is still running hot considering the CPU speed has essentially been lowered dramatically and disables turbo mode. Secondly, with the desktop idle with power management set to 100% and fans manually set to 75% which increases the CPU frequency to over 4ghz and rapidly increases the CPU temperature to an unstable level without sufficient cooling this is extremely damaging to the processor and makes for a very unstable system that will thermal throttle constantly, the core temperature is averaging 85C and even hit 91C when playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition which had multiple hitching episodes due to the system thermal throttling, which isn't good at all and I can't imagine playing a spec intensive game on this system without running into serious problems. The main issue is the micro ATX case boasting just two 60mm case fans and a very weak cpu cooler and fan that just cannot keep the 11700F cool at all, this processor runs notoriously hot and because the cooler/fan solution isn't adequate at all, you are looking at an idle temp of 100+ right out of the box with the only two solutions being to lower the CPU power management down from 100 to 99 which cripples the CPU but will lower the temperature significantly and the second solution is to buy a far better cooling option which could again, cost $100+ not to mention requires some knowledge of installation or risk damaging the system and potentially voiding your warranty. Next is the 500w PSU which just isn't powerful enough for this systems specs, sure it'll run but it's extremely punishing on the power supply unit and adding to the thermal load which isn't helping either, this was a concern and still is, you always want enough power and the 3070 really needs a minimum of a 600w, a 650+ is recommended - the PSU that ships is literally under serious stress when gaming and that has the potential to make the system very unstable especially with the other issues so you are looking at another $70 to $100 to upgrade the PSU. For gaming, Its got all the specs for a good experience except the fact that if you try to run a heavily demanding game then it could quite possibly overheat the system very quickly. The case is a small micro case, this means its a small form desktop whilst for some people small is good, that means the upgrade options are limited especially with coolers and adding extra fans, with predator sense software that is provided, you can put the system into gaming mode which will make the fans spin up to 100% however they are so loud that you can literally hear them from several rooms away, it honestly sounds almost like a vacuum cleaner it is that loud. Considering I've had this system for less than a day and it's already showing signs of being unstable, just one hard crash or blue screen error and I will be returning this system, I cannot in good faith recommend this system, the saying if something sounds too good to be true....you know the rest and this system clearly has issues, the fact that have to lower the cpu in power management just to make the system cooler isn't good, and for the average user...you're looking at being forced to spend perhaps another $200 or more on several key upgrades to make this system a solid gaming rig...you might as well look else where. Final update to this review, I had also made an inquiry in the official acer forums about this, and I received a reply saying that the temperatures are way off what they would normally expect and suspect possible damage in transit and should contact Amazon for a replacement, already returned the system. As I posted earlier, the system arrived in an box that was shipped poorly, the desktop box inside a fair larger box with ample room to move about inside, and the box had dents and looks like UPS didn't handle the box carefully either, so it is highly likely it could have arrived damaged. ... show more

  • Acer stood behind it when it failed Acer stood behind it when it failed
Size: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Style: PC
UPDATE: Only lasted 7 months before the graphics card failed. No HDMI output. Tested with a few HDMI cables and 2 TV's so the graphics card was out. Just to be 100% sure I attempted to remove the card and check with a known good card from my previous PC and that's where it went south. The PCI slot itself came off the motherboard with the graphics card. I have been working on computers for more than 30 years and have NEVER seen or heard of that happening! It wasn't looking good and I was expecting to have to buy another motherboard, case, power supply and go through the headache of having the Windows license transferred. But, Acer did stand behind it, repaired it and I'm happy to say that I'm typing this on my Predator. Raised the rating to 5 stars in light of Acers support. ---end of update--- Here are a few limitations Motherboard is PCIe 3.0. (OS (#25) M.2 slot is PCIe 3.0 x 4, open (#15), M.2 Slot is PCIe 3.0 x 4, WiFi (#20) is PCIe 3.0 x 1 and the graphics card is in (#24) a PCIe 3.0 x 16 slot. So if you add a M.2 SSD in the open M.2 slot or if you replace the stock one it will top out at PCIe 3.0 x 4 speeds even if you install a PCIe 4.0 one (No screw provided for the second open slot) Graphics card VBIOS does not have Re-Size BAR enabled even though it's enabled in the Motherboards BIOS so that makes that feature unavailable. You can find that discussion here (it's for the 620 but the graphics cards are the same): https://community.acer.com/en/discussion/634712/are-we-getting-nvidia-resizable-bar-support-predator-po3-620/p3 The stock CPU cooler is less than optimal and allowed it to be reaching 90 so I swapped it out. Keep in mind the i7-11700 runs hot and with limited space in the Predators case a regular 120mm air tower wont fit but this one does. It has the right hardware for the LGA 1200 and fits great in the case: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076MQBZ2L?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details It does NOT include the black ring and snap latch shown in the listing though but it does install Now it runs about 10 degrees or more cooler on average. I prefer Air cooling to AIO Liquid cooling. That's just my preference. No light for the front ports so it makes it hard to see them depending on lighting. I usually need a flashlight to see what I'm doing there. Your eyesight may vary. Side note that I don't care about but some may This is not for overclocking. For that you'll want a K or X processor not the F (i7-11700F) That's all that comes to mind and other than those unlisted limitations it is as advertised. ... show more

  • Buying a gaming computer to use for animating in iClone, Blender, Daz etc. Buying a gaming computer to use for animating in iClone, Blender, Daz etc.
Size: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Style: PC
I’m going to answer the question that I wished I could have answered when I was shopping for a computer. If you’re into 3D graphics, not 3D games – if you’re rendering frames and movies in Daz, iClone, Character Creator or other programs, this computer will increase your workflow. With the Nvidia RTX 3070 in this iteration of the Acer Predator Orion 3000 PO3-630-UA91 Gaming Desktop is quite powerful. If you look for reviews of this desktop on YouTube, they are all old, and don’t reflect the most important component (for me) the graphics card. Yes! The typical Iray 1080p frame that took your old Nvidia card minutes to render, will render in seconds. As a matter of fact, my old Dell XPS card barely even had a GPU. It didn’t work at all with iClone, and barely worked with my video enhancer tools. Now, enhancements that would literally take me DAYS to crunch through, might be finished in minutes or hours, and the whole time, I can watch videos and use my computer as if all that work isn’t even going on. What gamers want for high FPS, animators and artists want for GPU computation speed. But wait! There’s a caveat. Now that my renders are more interactive, I’m tweaking them more and adding more detail, and the render time is inching back up. I could have always rendered the attached photos, but it would have taken forever. The photos attached would have taken forever to render before, but here, they were rendered in minutes. Still, it’s light years ahead of what I had to deal with before the graphics card. While the clock speed is slightly less than my previous system, I can tell that it’s a later generation core i7 card than I had in my previous system. I see no general sacrifice in computational speed. The system is extra in some almost childish ways (the thankfully optional clear side of the case, and the lighting system that I was glad to be able to turn off. The mouse has extra game buttons, which I probably won’t use, and it glows needlessly. The Keyboard is backlit, but the space between the keys seem to be lit more than the letters on the keys. I had to closely verify whether the letters themselves were backlit. They are. Still, I’d prefer if the space between the keys weren’t there, and weren’t so bright. Whomever designed the keyboard has the unshifted keys higher than the shifted keys, and should be slapped. I've been computing for 35 years and have never seen this. That’s fine for touch typing, but bad for hunt and peck. Characters like [] and {} get confusing when you look them first and [] are on top. Even the numbers look weird. I look at the $ and I don’t want to press shift. The keyboard itself is very springy. I didn’t like it. I switched to my old one. Though I rarely use a CD or DVD, I miss having one. I have a cabinet full of them that I need to copy over to an external drive. I had no idea how much I relied on USB ports. This one is lacking. I had to buy an extension to get back all my attachment and charging ports and also have my MIDI keyboard constantly attached. It has two USB-C ports that I don’t need (at least on the computer end), so I made sure to get a port extender that had a USBC connection so it didn’t take up a port to add four. There is no card reader. Do I like the computer? Yes. My old computer had the same specs, sans the graphics card, but wouldn’t update to Windows 11. This one immediately did, and I like it. I don’t own any games, and I can’t comment on that. I do own DAZ Studio, Blender, Character Creator and iClone. I can say that all of them have had a huge increase in usability. I thought I would immediately upgrade the memory, but I feel no pressure to do so. The Nvidia 3070 graphics card makes that much difference in speed. I will be able to finish my movie ahead of schedule. I had the hardest most frustrating time trying to register the hardware with Acer. The registration tool just didn't work. It kept saying I already had an account, but I have never owned an Acer before. At first I thought that maybe it was because I bought my daughter an Acer from Circuit City, some time in the Mesozoic epoch. After some struggles, I found out that this system was automatically registered when I bought it. Still, the registration tool pops up every few days, telling me to register it. This was the first computer where I just gave up trying to install my old SSD into the second port. PERHAPS Plastic man or Mr. Fantastic, or certainly Ant-Man could install it, but there was no way I could do it without removing the Nvidia card, which got VERY dicey, and I gave up. The SSD is in an external cradle for now until I'm sure everything is off of it. I would suggest to the manufacturer that they preinstall a tied off cable and save some grief. The only way I will risk removing that card is to install a better one. After owning it a couple of weeks, the graphics seem better and the CPU and GPU aren't running as hot as when I first measured them. Of course, right now, I'm rendering 2000 Iray frames, so the temperature is up. I guess that a gamer who games all the time and checks the temperature might be alarmed. I only render thousands of frames after a scene is finished. That could be months apart. I gave it so-so marks on gaming because I don't play games, and so-so marks on support, but I doubt I will ever need it. ... show more

  • Runs very hot, not very upgradable
Size: 16GB RAM | 512GB SSD Style: PC
It does what it is supposed to do, but runs WAY too hot. The GPU would get into the 90s while gaming. CPU would almost never be below 50, even when only using it for internet browsing and email. The case and MB had almost no ability to be upgraded in an effort to fix these overheating issues. Additionally, the MB is so low quality that even though I had an 11700 and a 3070 I was the last person to load into any game I played with friends. In order to correct these issues I ended up buying a new case, MB and CPU cooler. For what I now have in this rig I could have bought a much better spec iBuyPower or the like prebuilt. Once I booted with new case, MB and CPU cooler I noticed a significant difference in overall capability from the CPU and GPU (I am now the first one to load in most cases), plus they run much cooler. The CPU rarely gets over 50, even under full load, and the graphics card is rarely over 80, most of the time it is in the 70s while gaming. Long story short, I would avoid this computer if you are looking for something that will perform the way it should and provide the longevity we should expect. ... show more
