  • Wow! Such a value, and Ubuntu & VLC
Style: AM07 / Ryzen 5 5600U / 16GB RAM 512GB ROM
Firstly, I went straight to the latest LTS version of Ubuntu. Trick #1 when you trial Ubuntu from the USB, is to go to disks and free space the entire SSD. Just throw Win Pro away forever. Second, do NOT install VLC from the SNAP store. If you do, you will have screen freezes and you must just uninstall and 'hack' it completely off. Only install VLC from the command line terminal with apt-get. With VLC preferences, go to single instance and turn off controls from full screen view. All that aside, and I am not a PC gamer, it runs super cool (PSensor installed) with a dozen YouTube and Amazon tabs running. DELETE or ESC is your ticket to BIOS. At $315 total including sales tax and the horrid Colorado Internet fee gambit, the value is fantastic. BTW, the BlueTooth has a MUCH improved range. I set it up with 802.11ax, and am now on the Ethernet. I am retired, but back in the day the second Ethernet port would have been perfect. At twice the price, this would be a good value! The cooling on this unit is stellar! Full marks! *********** UPDATE: Just got asked if one can add another HDD, Hard Disk Drive. Only an external HDD can be added. As to ever putting a second SSD, Solid Disk Drive, into any computer, the SSDs run quite hot, and I have two recommendations: firstly, have one SSD with the capacity you desire, unless you have some sort of great cooling system. My second recommendation is that if you do a lot of writes, use an external HDD, and then if you are using LINUX, format in ext4. Put that heat and lot of writes outside your laptop or mini PC. ******* I've been inside tablets, phones, laptops ... and in general, avoid going inside as there is always the possibility of bricking your device. Inside these devices, there can be glued parts and the tolerances are very tight. I love going inside, but it's like a Spartan warrior going to battle: he goes off to battle and returns with his shield, ... or on it. ... show more

  • Great little home server
Style: AM07 / Ryzen 5 5600U / 16GB RAM 512GB ROM
I got this and installed Arch Linux on it. My router and switch are both gigabit - however I used network bonding so I could use both interfaces using load balancing. It runs great, it does everything I want to do and I am very happy.

  • Use as network firewall appliance
Style: AM07 / Ryzen 5 5600U / 16GB RAM 512GB ROM
Having two NIC's, I purchased this to be a replacement PFSense firewall and proxy server. As of the begining of 2023, the hardware in this is too new for the current PFSense so, had to switch to the Dev version. This computer may seem over kill for a firewall but, with PFSense it is also a proxy server and so much more. So, if you want a PFSense firewall with this computer until PFSense 2.7 is officially released, use the Dev version. ... show more

  • Mighty power in a small size!
Style: AM07 / Ryzen 5 5600U / 16GB RAM 512GB ROM
I really like this small form factor PC. The performance is excellent and trumps my larger boxed machines. I use it mainly for Adobe graphics-related projects and have had no issues. It is ultra quiet and very adequate for most needs. A+

  • First time booting up, stuck at infinite loading after asking to put a PIN
Style: AM07 / Ryzen 5 5600U / 16GB RAM 512GB ROM
I just bought this computer a few days ago, and it is not letting me past the point where it prompts to put a custom PIN on the computer when first setting up the PC with my wifi, Microsoft account, etc. I’m stuck at an infinite loading screen, and there’s no option to skip the PIN setup. I only put 3 stars rather than 1 star because the computer seemed fine otherwise (despite hardly using it) and perhaps I can get this issue resolved. ... show more

  • Very quiet, lots of memory for video processing
Style: AM07 / Ryzen 5 5600U / 16GB RAM 512GB ROM
I use it as a compute server over VNC (it's headless). I don't care for Windows 11 but am getting used to it.

  • Decent specs, tricky to upgrade, no documentation
This style of mini PC was popularized by the Intel NUC - I own two NUCs plus a GEEKDOM NUC-clone and love them. This Ace Magician mini-PC isn't in the same league, build-wise, as the NUCs or even the clone, but the configuration is the minimum I would recommend to anyone (16GB RAM, 512GB SSD). I'm an Intel guy, so am not intimately familiar with the AMD lineup, but the Ryzen 5 5600U is a decent midrange processor with good integrated graphics. The front panel has USB-A (USB3) and USB-C ports, plus a headphone jack. The back has two USB-A (USB2 I think), HDMI, DisplayPort and Ethernet. A 19V wall-wart power supply is provided, as is a rather flimsy looking VESA mount and screws. Given the lightweight plastic case, the VESA mount is probably more than adequate. Inside are two 8GB RAM DIMMs and an M2 SSD, all unbranded. A WiFi/Bluetooth board is hiding under the SSD. To get at these, you first must peel off the four rubber feet and use a Philips screwdriver to undo screws holding the top on. Then you carefully lever out the board from the case, as the components you want are on the other side. (see photo) Some slight prying of the plastic case may be needed to free the various jacks from the case. Curiously, a SATA disk connector on a short cable is taped to the board - there's no room for a drive, so my guess is that this is meant for a different configuration with a larger case. The CPU has a large heatsink and fan attached - the fan blows out the back. I didn't hear it come on if it did (my experience with NUCs is that you don't hear the fan unless the CPU is stressed.) There is minimal documentation included - just a leaflet showing how to connect things. The leaflet and the BIOS have no brand names, the PC itself has only a sticker on the bottom with the name. I assume that the box comes from a generic Chinese manufacturer and Ace Magician just puts their name on the sticker (and the outer packaging.) I haven't yet figured out how to get into the BIOS - it's an AMI BIOS, but none of the keys I see documented seem to work. This model doesn't yet show on Ace Magician's web site and there is precious little there even for the models it does show. Windows 11 Pro is preinstalled, and it works fine. When I first booted, it installed some updates before taking me to the desktop, and then installed some more after that. Note that Microsoft forces you to use or apply for a Microsoft account at first boot. It is possible to set it up later for a local account (you can't do that with the Home edition.) I don't have any complaints about performance or visual quality (I used an LG 27" monitor). I don't like how difficult it is to access the upgradeable components, but the configuration is good enough that most people won't need to do anything. ... show more
