As an RC car enthusiast, I thought this would be a fun project to work on with my daughter. I consider myself fairly computer-savvy, so I wasn’t overly concerned about the programming aspect going in. That said, this kit definitely requires patience and a willingness to carefully read through the provided materials. There are no physical instructions included in the box; instead, you’re given a link to access the full instructions online. The build process itself can be somewhat confusing at times. I found myself needing to backtrack, remove pieces, and redo certain steps to get everything aligned correctly. The programming portion also seems to require at least some prior knowledge. For someone completely new to this type of project, I think it could be quite challenging. In the end, the experience was frustrating at moments but ultimately rewarding once everything was completed. However, I would not recommend this for younger audiences. My daughter lost interest fairly quickly due to the level of difficulty involved. This seems better suited for teenagers through young adults, or anyone with some experience in building and basic programming. I also found it a bit odd that the box refers to this as a “STEAM” build, while it appears to be intended as a STEM-focused project. Additionally, given the complexity, it would be helpful if the manufacturer included a recommended age range on the packaging. Overall, it’s a challenging but satisfying project for those willing to invest the time and effort.

This is a great little robotics kit for kids ages 8–12 (and even into the early teen years). It definitely requires some thought, patience, and attention to detail to put together, which I actually see as a positive. It’s not just a snap-together toy — kids really get to learn how the components work and how everything connects. The compatibility with Arduino and Scratch is a big plus. It gives kids a solid introduction to coding and STEM concepts while still being fun and hands-on. Once assembled, the smart robot car works well and the app control adds another cool layer to the experience. The only downside — and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 — is that it doesn’t come with batteries. It requires two 18650 rechargeable batteries, so make sure you have those on hand before starting the build. Overall, it’s a fun, educational project that encourages problem-solving and critical thinking. Just plan ahead for the batteries and you’ll be good to go!

I've gotten several other kits from this company before and they have been great. This one is even an improvement from previous versions. My 11 year old boys put this together by themselves. Previous ones they would need a bit of help from me, but they said they made this one more streamlined to put together. The kits are fun for any kid that has patience and is into robotics. This isn't a super quick project, it has a fair amount of small parts and requires the ability to take your time and follow the directions. Depending on your child, you may want to be more involved in the assembly. Note that it does require 18650 batteries and they are not included. That would be the only complaint I have about it. It would be nice if they used AA batteries, as I readily have a lot of rechargeable AAs available. 18650 batteries are found in a lot of products like rechargeable flashlights and such, so it's not impossible that you already have some. All the Acebot kits that I've seen use these, so once you get a couple, you can use them for other projects as well. You download the manual, documentation and app, there aren't paper instructions. They are very thorough and well put together. I like getting it online because you are getting the most updated version of everything and they can afford to be extremely thorough not having to worry about how much paper it would use. We found it easiest to pull up the instructions on a tablet and read them from there while we use a desktop or laptop for the robot's software. Excellent robot, the only way I would improve it would be an option to use AAs.

It's the perfect introduction to coding for my 10-year-old. The instructions are clear, and he was able to build the car with minimal help. He loves controlling it with the app and has started experimenting with the Scratch programming to make it do different things. It's a great STEM toy that's actually fun and teaches real skills. It keeps him engaged for hours. Highly recommend for any curious kid.

took my 12 year old 3 days to put this together. While i gave it two stars because it kept her busy, it is missing things that wouldn't have me buying it again. - the instructions aren't included and you have to hunt through their chinese website to find them. even after thinking you found them, they use one set of instructions for multiple models and it is close to impossible for a 12 year old to sift through. after trial and error we found a video online that helped her piece it together. - it needs special batteries and not standard AA batteries like you'd expect. the version we got didn't have batteries included at all and it appears to be a separate purchase i wouldn't buy this again. it would be cool to see how the car drives, but you have to spend more to see that.
