This one had several basic problems that could be attributed to poor quality control during the remanufacturing process. Problem number 1: I could hear something rolling around in case on occasion. That something would be the round black isolator pictured. This particular unit ended up with an extra in the case. More is not better here. It probably passed initial quality control because it was tucked up in the unit and didn’t dislodge until later. Taking this apart to find the above problem, I also noticed the brush holder was broken. It functioned, barely. That should have been trashed in the reman process. I swapped in one from my old alternator as a substitute. The brush springs were also mismatched. Again, I used the ones from my donor to remedy this problem. I think it would have ran fine with the mismatched springs, but I’d rather have them be the same. The fan was also bent, though functional. Now for some good things. The rectifier assembly was new and correctly installed. The armature also seemed new, or at least well reconditioned. It was the 55amp version as it was supposed to be for this part number. The case was good. The bearings were nice and correctly installed. And most importantly, it now charges and runs fine after fixing the issues above.
