  • GREAT..but, is this a real Accutire gauage?
I had the Accutire MS-4021 B i guess it is, the black version. I bought IT years ago..and it worked flawlessly..battery never died..was accurate, felt like quality. I moved to a different state and unfortunately I misplaced my favorite Accutire gauge..never to be seen again. There was just something about the Accutire I loved besides it being extremely accurate, which is most important. I went to re-buy it but it was constantly out of stock. I needed a gauge though.so first bought a reputable pen gauge..works well but I still longed for a digital gauge. I ended up with two different AstroAI gauges with no Accutire available, at least not THIS model in black or red. I have to say the two AstroAI gauges do seem to work well..one feels EXTREMELY cheap though so I bought a heavy duty one..and I dunno works well too. That said, I still wanted the Accutire MS-4021. I decided to wait for the red version..haha don't know why. Long story short I got it, it works fine,...seems very accurate comparing it to my two Astro AIs and the pen gauge. Only thing IS it seems? This gauge has been discontinued a long while?..I may be wrong though. Also my original older Accutire MS-4021 had no on off switch nor any way to see anything OTHER than PSI. This new red gauge has an on off switch and you can cycle thru the other forms of reading such as BAR/KPA etc. So I wonder is this gauge a knockoff..or did Accutire maybe jut update it...Also if it's been discontinued a long while, where are these ORIGINAL Accutire coming from? It does feel a tad lighter than my original best as I can recall. That said, it works PERFECTLY, looks nice, easy to use ...so I guess all is ok..I just hope its REAL, and not a counterfeit great copy..I just don't know.. ... show more

  • Works Great!
Once activated the Accutire gauge works great. My gauge did not work out of the box. Per purchase instructions, I was advised to check the batteries. The small Phillips screw securing the battery case proved to be somewhat of a pain to unscrew. A larger driver slot would have been quite helpful. Once opened, I rotated the batteries with my finger, which had the effect of activating the gauge. The gauge appears to be accurate, comfortable in the hand and easy to connect well with the tire stem. A larger battery case screw would have raised my rating to five stars. ... show more

  • Accutire: Why downgraded to one star?
Accutire: Why downgraded to one star? A new tire gauge should not have its battery wear out after one use and two months in the glove box. I messaged the company at their phone number on the back of the package. They ignored me for 10 days and then proceeded to tell me that batteries are my responsibility. I was future put on the defensive by being told “We’ll replace them just this one time but don’t ask again.” This attitude is absolutely unacceptable, Accutire. When I started researching other reviews I know see this is common. Some even arrive DOA. The guy at the company insisted that my thermometer must have a tiny on button. It does not. I then learned the company added one since their thermometers drain when not in use. Sadly, a HUGE avoid with rude and slow customer service, too. Original review: Accutire vs. Milton vs. Vondior: Which is the best tire gauge? I’m comparing these three since Accutire and Milton are the top two models recommended by Popular Mechanics. The Accutire is also highly acclaimed at the top of Consumer Reports ratings. Vondior consistency receives top ratings here at Amazon. I’m tired of inaccurate gauges and I don’t personally are if it’s digital or an old school pen. Tires are beyond expensive these days and for safety and longevity, you need to get it right! Read on to learn which is best: I’d call this a tire tie between Accutire and Vondier. The Accutire can wash out a bit in sunlight but I love its no nonsense design and consistency. For ease of use, it’s my favorite. One big plus for the Vondier design is that there is no battery needed. It is a simple joy to use and it glows in the dark. The Milton gauge is poorly printed and difficult to read although it is quite consistent. Both the Accutire and Vondior are five star totally tubular tire winners. By the way, the majority of tire gauges are not accurate so choose carefully. ... show more

  • Design Flaw on Battery Cover; Sloppy Valve Fit
Out of the box, I've noticed a design flaw on the battery cover. The screw that holds the cover in place is extremely small with a shallow phillips head. None of the tiny small phillips heads I tried on it worked because the head is so shallow. I finally had to use the flathead screwdriver from an eyeglasses screw replacement kid to gently ease it out. The selection of a phillips head for such a small screw is puzzling. Changing the battery should be easy, not a challenge to hunt for a screwdriver that works. Furthermore, I've noticed that the valve end fit is somewhat unforgiving. You have to get it lined up almost perfectly for it to make a tight seal and give a reading. Other gauges (including an older Accutire from 2013) are easier to use. The red light readout may be easier to read in the dark, but it's harder to read in bright daylight. I don't know about others, but I usually don't check my tire pressure in a dark garage. Since 2013, the price has increased 50% while the quality has slipped somewhat. It no longer justifies its premium over competitors, in my opinion. ... show more
