I bought these to change the tires on my motorcycle. These spoons were relatively inexpensive, so I figured that for a relatively easy install they'd be OK. I didn't get a relatively easy install-- I got a life-and-death battle between the tires and me. Neither tire wanted to go on the rim, and I was REALLY leaning on these tire spoons to get the beads mounted. The carcasses of the new tires were so stiff that I had to fight to get them in the drop-center of the wheel, then fight again to slip the tire bead into place one small bite at a time. I've used junk tire irons in the past and they always tend to slip off the wheel rim at the worst time. Not these-- once I had them under the rim, they stayed put no matter how hard I levered them. Even when I was leaning on them, the cushioned grips were very comfortable in the hand and gave excellent purchase. Eventually, I managed to get both tires mounted (and I was drenched in sweat by the time I was done, too). I was amazed that I hadn't managed to bend one of the spoons. There were a couple of scratches in the chrome plating and the handles were dirty, but the spoons managed to shrug off all the abuse I threw at them. For a kit that cost less then $25, that's impressive. I've used everything to change tires from junk tire irons to fully automatic tire machines. This kit is not a replacement for a Hunter tire machine, but if you change your own motorcycle tires, they probably should have a place in your toolbox. ... show more

Size: Tire Spoon Set, 13 Piece
This was my first time removing a tire from a wheel by hand so my experience is of one sample, meaning I don't have others to compare to. However, these were relatively easy to use and were strong enough to remove 245/40R19 tires from my wheels. First the tire bead must be broken. I did so by using a left over 4x4 and my minivan (youtube will show you how, do so at your own risk). Once that was completed, the rim protectors were placed on the wheel rim, and the spoons were played with. The bad: so I will get this out of the way early, the protectors are very soft. They do like to deform under the spoons and without any directions, I did it wrong. I spaced them too far apart from another so I was directly against the rim and scratched the rim of the wheel. I think a section of PEX would work better if you have a way to split it. (I would use a multitool.) Anyway, it turns out it was not much different than removing a bicycle tire. The hard part is getting the first portion of the tire on the wheel. Once that occurs, the remainder of tire comes off easily. Three levers are necessary. The two will start a section (hold down with one hand) and the third will work an additional portion. A lever can then be used to pull the remainder of the tire over the lip. One caution: be careful of the tire pressure monitor sensor. I started on the opposite side so I knew digging the spoon in I would not contact it and potentially break it. ... show more

Thin, flimsy, flexed and bent pretty hard while trying to unmount a tire from a rim. Might be good for real small jobs and getting into tight spaces but generally speaking working on tires requires exerting a significant amount of force also the rim protectors did not work very well especially when protecting against such a thin bar as they are quite soft. ... show more
