First off, I am a hobby machinist, and second of all, I am a blind hobby machinist. I purchased this tool post to replace the one that came with my Grizzly 1224G some 40 years ago. Like they say on their page, it comes with a blank T-Nut that needs to be machined to fit "your" lathe. Easy to do they say. Well, for a seasoned machinist yes, took me 3 days, but that is not the fault of the tool post. I would say an hour for those who really know what they are doing. But machine it I did, and got it mounted on the compound, it looks so nice. And so much easier to adjust the tool height (I have to do it by touch). I wish I could of had one of these back in the days when I could see. It is very solid, just could no ask for much more than that. ... show more

The machining on this is very good, as is the finish on the parts, and everything fits together nicely. It seems to more than strong enough for my needs. I used it to replace the original "lantern" style tool holder on my Atlas 6" lathe. I also bought a set of lathe tools with replaceable carbide cutters, which I'm using with this tool holder. I've been turning some steel today, and this has made changing tools almost effortless. You only have to set the center height once for each tool, and never mess with it again unless you remove a tool from the carrier it's in. I only have a couple of minor complaints. First, there was no documentation in the box explaining what the different parts were for, although that was easy enough to work out from the web site. Second, one of the tool carriers has a built-in knurling tool. There's still a slot for a cutter at the other end, but it only accommodates about half the length of a cutting tool as the slot stops halfway through the carrier to leave room for the knurling wheels. I'm not sure how much I'll use the knurling tool; I think I would rather have had another normal carrier and been able to mount a knurler in it if I wanted to. Also, as some others have pointed out, the set screws that hold the tools in the carriers are not very well made. It comes with a little TORX driver tool to loosen and tighten them, but some of them don't seem to have the TORX socket machined correctly, so you either can't get the tool into them, or you can, but then it just spins without engaging anything. It seems like an odd thing for a manufacturer to skimp on. Worst case, plan on replacing some of the set screws if you get defective ones. Overall, though, I think this was a worthwhile addition to my lathe setup. ... show more

First, I have am happy to report that this set arrived quickly. Second, once I machined my top slide and put it to use, everything works as it should. I am using this on an EMCO Maximat Super 11. For those who may purchase this set, be advised that it doesn't quickly "bolt-on" to any machine I am aware of right out of the box. Knowing this, I had to make a plan to "make it work" in my application. First, I had to disassemble my top slide, take measurements, re assemble, machine the new center stud, disassemble, mill .100 from the surface of my top slide, and re assemble with the new tool post. Works well. I gave a 4 star rating because I can't attest to longevity yet. Some folks will give 5 stars just because they received what they ordered. That doesn't help the rest of us who would like to know as many of the details as necessary. ... show more

I first bought a bxa for my Craftsman 101, but it was to big. I returned it for the Axa and could not be happier. Solid, smooth and looks good too. The locking plate will have to be machines to fit.

Very happy with this. The one that came with my mini lathe was a piece of junk compared to this. The only issue that I have is that the holder for the cut off blade it difficult to tighten enough to keep the cut off blade from sliding backwhen pressureis on the blade. I think if I change the torx holding screw I may be able to tighten it better. ... show more

The listing is very complete, but the company website had much more helpful info that allowed me to pick the set the best fits my needs and equipment. I was expecting a high quality set of tool holders, but was surprised by the quality when I received the kit. Now that I have the QCTP installed, I definitely feel that I got MORE than I paid for! I am very happy with the seller and the kit I kind of feel a bit guilty about - I feel that maybe I under paid for the quality (both the products themselves and the care taken in shipping)! Each component of the kit was separately packaged (the normal coating, plus plastic bag, plus boxed) and then neatly packaged into an outer box, that was put into a shipping box for added protection during shipping! Bottom line, when I was done unboxing and inspecting the parts of the kit I couldn't help but think that I should have paid more for the service and quality received! ... show more

Overall I'm pleased with the newly installed unit. The tool post has a nice finish to it and mating surfaces look pretty good. The handle operates fairly easily. The tool holders supplied all have a nice black finish and clean mating surfaces with nice edge chamfers. The adjustment nuts spin easily and the spring washers make locking the adjustment easy. Others have mentioned soft set-screws in the holders but thus far they seem to be holding up for me. Easy to replace if needed and not an uncommon complaint on Chinese gear. Speaking of, I purchased this over the other similar unit on Amazon partly because "CHINA" was not printed in bold all over it. I would go 5 stars but the handle does interfere with the the use of the 2nd position of the tool-post. When completely released the handle blocks the removal of the holder from that position. Not a huge deal, but an annoyance. The handle is pretty cheap feeling and I'll probably try my hand at making up a replacement. On my 10" swing lathe the holders need 0.050" removed from the bottom to allow 1/2" tools to get on-center before landing on the top of the compound. Any tool size less than 1/2" would not require any modification, but I like to use the beefiest tool I can get away with. The post seems solid and heavy cuts can be taken without chatter. This is not Aloris quality, but it is not Aloris price either. Given my lathe is a Grizzly 10x22 an Aloris is lipstick on a pig anyway. ... show more
