  • Nice level for setting up Mill
I bought this to set up and level my Mill. Box came completely destroyed, but I glued it back together. I didn’t take a star off for that since most stuff from overseas comes in crappy boxes and holders. It’s the China way. The level itself is very sensitive and looks to be very accurate. Bottom is machined nicely and overall the level is very heavy. It’s expensive for what I used it for but I had to have it. ... show more

  • Appears to be a good value if it arrives undamaged
As the previous reviewer noted the level wasn't packaged very well. It arrived in one of those wrap around type boxes that didn't provide much protection. That said, mine arrived without damage. I didn't have previous experience with precision levels, although from what I've seen thus far this one will likely provide results similar to more expensive options. The level is incredibly sensitive and takes some effort to calibrate, although once done you get the sense that whatever you level with it is pretty much the most level thing you've ever touched. I used it to level a CNC machine base and rails. For this purpose it appeared to far exceed my needs and the included box should protect the level until the next time it need it. My one small complaint is that the center section of the base isn't relieved, which increases the chance the level could rock from side to side if the surface you're measuring isn't completely flat. This hasn't been a problem in my experience though. Also the round, plastic, side covers look like they have been designed to use an o-ring, although none were included. Without them the covers aren't a perfect fit and occasionally fall out. We'll see if adding small o-rings will do the trick. ... show more

  • Super precise and reasonably stable.
It's almost too precise for the adjustments I needed to make. Having that degree of resolution made me want to level my machine that perfectly. Alas, even with the level accurately calibrated (a feat of great patience all on its own), the machine position drifts with temperature and moisture, enough to show on the level. I'm not complaining. For some reason having an instrument that can measure with precision greater than my ability to achieve is highly satisfying. It also settles out between adjustments in under a couple minutes. I'm used to that taking 10 minutes on my old less precise brand name level - or longer when it gets very close. ... show more

  • Very sensitive level!
Very accurate and sensitive. Maybe too sensitive for some applications. Be prepared to have the level topped out at one end or the other unless whatever you are leveling is very close to start. However used it to dial in a metal lathe and was very happy with the results.

  • Outstanding for the price.
Very accurate! I had a buddy who was a millwright that brought over several starrett machinist’s levels when we were setting up my mill. We went ahead and used his for the set up ...because Starrett...and afterwards he wanted to mess with this one for gits n’ shiggles. It took about 3 minutes before he was saying “Wow, we should have used this!” It’s heavy, fully encapsulated(helps with temperature fluctuations from just touching it) and has nice slow/smooth settling time. The only knock he gave it was the adjustment screw being a Phillips head, so you had to push down on the screw to make adjustments which made it a little difficult. Well worth living with for the price! This is one of those purchases where you are still high-fiving yourself years down the road for making a good decision and saving a bunch of money in the process. ... show more

  • Wont stay level
Dont buy if you're a machinist. It's a level that never stays level. CONS: I don't mind having to calibrate the level, but it constantly lost it's precision even if it was moved ever so gently. I believe the adjustment mechanism is not designed to hold tight tolerances. Also, the bottom is not precision ground. PROS: It's the body was a clean cast. It's actually very sensitive which great, but again it can't hold the precision for long. Go with a Starrett level and be done. ... show more

  • Resolutions is way too high for pool table levelling
I bought this to help level a three piece slate table. .0002/10 inches is incredibly sensitive. The same size in a brand that rhymes with barrett lists resolution at .005 per 12 inches. If this makes sense to you and you know how to calibrate this, its almost half price of name brand. But im chasing my tail with measurements of these pool table slates. It seems like each time i put the level down, it gets knocked out of calibration. When im done with this job, i will take this level apart to check how the vial is attached and supporter inside. On a machinists forum, i saw a homemade level and in the thread it mentioned that these amazon levels are holding the vials with beads of glue. If this is true, when i open it up, the solution will be to hold the vial with a rubber band. ... show more

Arrived in good shape and compared to my shop levels it is very sensitive. I have it setting on a level that reads level yet the machinist level won't be close. level it to the machine level and the construction level is still level. That is how sensitive it is. You can go from no-go to go on the precision level and not even move the bubble on a construction style level. Is it accurate to claimed .0002, I have no way of knowing but it by far beats any thing I currently own. ... show more
