I bought this to set up and level my Mill. Box came completely destroyed, but I glued it back together. I didn’t take a star off for that since most stuff from overseas comes in crappy boxes and holders. It’s the China way. The level itself is very sensitive and looks to be very accurate. Very accurate! I had a buddy who was a millwright that brought over several starrett machinist’s levels when we were setting up my mill. We went ahead and used his for the set up ...because Starrett...and afterwards he wanted to mess with this one for gits n’ shiggles. It took about 3 minutes before he was saying “Wow, we should have used this!” It’s heavy, fully encapsulated(helps with temperature fluctuations from just touching it) and has nice slow/smooth settling time. The only knock he gave it was the adjustment screw being a Phillips head, so you had to push down on the screw to make adjustments which made it a little difficult. Well worth living with for the price! This is one of those purchases where you are still high-fiving yourself years down the road for making a good decision and saving a bunch of money in the process. ... show more

It is very sensitive. When I place a single piece of register paper (cash register receipt) undero one of the blocks supporting it (about 6 inches apart) the bubble moves many lines, meaning you have to move leveling legs a fraction of a turn or the bubble flips from one end to another. For home shop machinery, I don't know if any more accuracy would get any better results. This was leveling a lathe 6 ft long by 2 1/2 feet wide with 5/8"-11 leveling feet. Remember, I said I could detect a fraction of a turn on the adjusting nuts, so level with this is as level as I need. I didn't give 5 stars because the unit calibration was not fully accurate when I received it, and being so sensitive calibrating such that it reads the same when turned 180 degrees is a slow and tedious process. I used only some blocks, paper and a small watch screwdriver (worked better than the provided spanner wrench). But 1/4 adjustment nut turn moves things a lot. If you have to resort to this, work slowly (the bubble can take a minute to fully settle) and carefully, making notes of what you did and what happened. The directions do describe it, in what may charitably be described as Chinglish. Once you divine the author's dialect, you can follow it. ... show more

As the previous reviewer noted the level wasn't packaged very well. It arrived in one of those wrap around type boxes that didn't provide much protection. That said, mine arrived without damage. I didn't have previous experience with precision levels, although from what I've seen thus far this one will likely provide results similar to more expensive options. The level is incredibly sensitive and takes some effort to calibrate, although once done you get the sense that whatever you level with it is pretty much the most level thing you've ever touched. I used it to level a CNC machine base and rails. For this purpose it appeared to far exceed my needs and the included box should protect the level until the next time it need it. My one small complaint is that the center section of the base isn't relieved, which increases the chance the level could rock from side to side if the surface you're measuring isn't completely flat. This hasn't been a problem in my experience though. Also the round, plastic, side covers look like they have been designed to use an o-ring, although none were included. Without them the covers aren't a perfect fit and occasionally fall out. We'll see if adding small o-rings will do the trick. ... show more

It's almost too precise for the adjustments I needed to make. Having that degree of resolution made me want to level my machine that perfectly. Alas, even with the level accurately calibrated (a feat of great patience all on its own), the machine position drifts with temperature and moisture, enough to show on the level. I'm not complaining. For some reason having an instrument that can measure with precision greater than my ability to achieve is highly satisfying. It also settles out between adjustments in under a couple minutes. I'm used to that taking 10 minutes on my old less precise brand name level - or longer when it gets very close. ... show more

The level I received could not be calibrated. No matter what I did to adjust the vial was always off in extreme directions. I spent 2 hours and countless youtube videos trying to calibrate to understand if I was doing something wrong but ultimately I'm going to have to pin it on the product I received. Also the storage box wasn't properly assembled - some of the finger joints were lacking glue and the bottom had fallen off entirely. Not the core of the product offering but it speaks to the overall quality of what I received. I am guessing based on the reviews that there's a better chance of getting a higher quality version of this product than I received, but I received a bad one so that's what I have to base my review off of. For comparison, I purchased one by another seller that looks identical to this with the same specs and it calibrated easily. ... show more
