It first turns on in absolute mode to check the surface. You can then set this as a reference by touching the on button again and it will zero to the surface you are referencing. Then put it onto the surface you want to incline and adjust to get the desired angle. Resolution to 0.1 degrees is much better than I can get with my protractor type scales. Seems reproducible. I was making an icosahedron (see pic), and needed the angle perfect or it wouldn't assemble correctly (60 complex angle cuts). It worked great. I was able to cut out the 20 triangles and they all fit great together. also used it to set angle on jointer fence. reads easy, but magnet is only on the bottom surface. the four sides are all square so it can be held in place on the other 3 surfaces. Also has a V surface for pipe and conduit. Does not work horizontally and shows "ERR" when laid flat-makes sense. This unit runs on 2 AAA batteries. It had the least negative reviews of the units I was considering. I am happy with this purchase and recommend it highly. ... show more

A staple in my tractor toolbox now. The magnet is strong, it is compact and the carrying case is very sturdy. I bought this to mount on my tractor so I could check the side-angle to prevent a rollover, but use it for a variety of leveling projects as it is so handy.

The first project I used this on was cutting hexagonal wood bars on my table saw. I needed accurate 60 degree angles. The zeroing out process only took a few seconds. I wanted to buy a digital readout device to check the angle of my table saw blade. I saw a video of wood worker using a like device to ensure his blade was set at 90 degrees. The fastest way to find it was to search on Amazon and I came to this one. The magnet feature was a must so it can be placed on a metal blade.
