Needed an access panel to hide but make accessible the hoses & tubes of an airconditioning unit. Ordered this and was happily surprised at the solid quality of of the item. Looks and feels solid. It was quite easy to install as well. Just used liquid nails to fix it on the wall. Now I can access what I need to without a lot of fuss. I Wish it was 15 1/2 or 16 inches wide so that it would have been middle of rafters {16 on center}. If you are cutting sheetrock in between studs, it would be ok. It fits nicely over sheetrock and is a tight fit, but can be accessed as designed. I was using it in the ceiling to access plumbing. It would have been nice to have had 16 on center. I had to add wood and sheetrock to make it hidden under the panel. Easy to install, though I added screws since it was in the ceiling and was concerned about just using adhesive. ... show more

Did not glue Access Panel to wall. but I glued 1x2 wood strips down both sides behind the Sheetrock and screwed Access Panel to the 1x2 wood behind the Sheetrock so I can remove if I need better access to plumbing. Works great for an access once or so a year not good for everyday access.

I purchased this access panel to make my cable splitters that are in the wall more accessible. I have two splitters in the wall, the main splitter for the tv's and modem and one that takes the cable tv signal to the bedrooms. Occasionally the cable company shows up and says they are chasing noise on the line and they have to see my connections. Twice in the past 8 years they have had to replace a splitter. I had a piece of plywood over the hole, but I have since moved furniture and it was no longer covered by the furniture. I searched for a solution and found this. To install I laid this backwards against the wall and traced the inside of the access square. When I cut the hole in the drywall I cut on the outside of the line. I had a keyhole saw, but a steak knife would work. This cut allowed the frame to fit snugly in the wall. I used heavy duty construction adhesive around the perimeter of the frame and spread it out with a popsicle stick. I made sure to get the glue on both the flat frame as well as a small amount on the side of the frame. Once I pressed the frame into the wall, the glue filled in any imperfections in the cut of the drywall. After a few minutes I placed the door into the frame. Since no screws were needed to fasten the frame, I did not have to be near any studs. The frame looks fine as is, but it is listed as paintable so it will be painted in the future when the room is repainted. ... show more

Had to replace & rebuild the shower unit. Decided to use this access panel incase of future leaks instead of dry walling it back. Easy to install and opens and closes easily.
