Smooth and effortless operation. Casts like a dream. I have one of the original abumatics that's older than my dad to compare to. They've only gotten better. My only complaint is the brass ring around the opening makes a lot of noise. Just a light yet sharp ringing noise as the line moves across its surface. ... show more

This is one good fishing reel! Maybe you have read some of my other reviews and realized by the amount of fishing gear I've bought and reviews that I love fishing and this is what I have to say about this reel. It's great for the price, it's light weight and very smooth action. It is however not for the person who wants to pull out the biggest fish in the lake/river but will get the job done with average size fish and the main use I have for this reel is to teach people how to cast and retrieve and have then learn how to fish because the reel is very simple to use ... show more

    • Pretty on the Rod, but don't use it to cast.
My fault. I bought one, thought it was great, got one for my wife, then talked my father in law into getting one. Mine broke right after my wife's came in (and by broke, I mean the piece inside the housing that grabs the line and spools it in as you reel in - the weld broke and it fell off!) then my wife's broke (handle fell off and into the water) - we cobbled the two together and I bought another one because I really wanted them to be a good reel. That one is now in the back of the storage tackle box. Her second one is in the trash. My father in law is now using a Zebco Rhino! For the money, I'm terribly disappointed and won't buy another Abu product. I now have ordered a Zebco Omega Pro and will hang in there with the Zebco I know. ... show more

works ok but button that screwed into handle to keep from falling out continued to loosen when being used and would not stay on.Came off the 3rd time it was used and lost it.a real pain in the ass to say the least even though it was tightened as much as one could do.otherwise not a bad reel and would like to try another to see if it was just mine that did this. ... show more

Over all I really like the reel for the price . I used my friends and liked it so bought the same one , very happy overall but line broke 3 times during casting thinking it was maybe old line or just needs something better than it came with
