You only need to adjust the spring plungers once, and after that, its a perfect fit in the miter slot. Great tool at a great price. Instructions were easy to understand. In a very short time I was able to get the table saw to the miter slot to 0. I was also able to 0 the fence. The best reason to buy this tool is the fact l that I can use it for a lot of tools. My jointer is my next project. Jim

    • Versatile and accurate
Very handy indeed. It works perfectly on several pieces of equipment such as: tables saws, drill presses, jointers, planers, band saws, and more. The deluxe kit is worth the price over the regular kit since it has all the pieces you need to calibrate most machines in the woodshop. After much research, I selected this tool for its versatility to be used on many different types of equipment. Not only can it be used for several different tools, but it can take several different types of measurements where other similar tools fall short. To give you an idea of how versatile this tool is, you can do the following measurements with it plus more (as shown in the included CD): Table Saw: 1. Blade to table alignment 2. Fence alignment 3. Arbor runout 4. Table wing level Drill Press: 1. Bit runout 2. Table alignment: left-to-right and front-to-back 3. Table deflection 4. Quill travel to post alignment (can't be done on very large drill presses except radial drill presses) I also wanted a dial for measurements instead of digital. Most low cost (meaning non-scientific) digital calibration devises don't measure to a small enough scale for truly accurate measurements. Digital seems cool and modern, but if you are going spend less than $700 on one, then dials are more accurate. The analog dial is very precise and allows you to see the tinniest of deflections that a digital scale won't show. This item also comes with a CD which clearly explains how to set it up and use it with many types of equipment. This item should come in a better box. However, I don't use this item much after my machines were properly set up with it. I now only need it when I do planer and jointer blade changes every three or four months, change my drill press table angle, or buy a new piece of equipment. Since I am a woodworker, I will just make a box later when the old one wears out. I'm not keen on similar items that use magnets to hold the measurement device to the equipment. They are not as flexible to use on as many different machines, your table surface has to be perfectly flat to prevent rocking, and they are harder and heavier to use on equipment which are not made of iron or steel. Just to be clear on my credibility for this rating: I am a furniture maker and worked in an industrial woodshop for several years. I managed it, taught safety classes, and maintained the machines. I have calibrated lots of machines many times over on old machines that were not built to be easily adjusted, and also worked on a few newer ones when manufacturers started to ease the pain on machine owners by engineering easier adjustment options. Having this tool in that shop would have saved me many hours each month and we could have made better cuts for our projects. ... show more

I was really excited to order a jig that could set up so many of my tools. I received it two days ago and began to check/set up my planer, jointer and table saw. I must say the concept of this tool is great. It has the potential to be a tool I would use to get within .001" on my set ups. However, where this tool fails is in craftsmanship and execution. Before I get into the specific problems with individual parts I sould mention that as soon as you open the box, everything feels cheap. My first complaint is with the long bar with all the length adjustment holes in it. Mine was not ground flat. I checked it on multiple surfaces that are known to me to be dead flat. Rocked along its length every time. This right there makes the product useless to get the precision it is ment to get. Also it is too narrow. Once you set it up to check the feed rollers for the planer it becomes top heavy and likes to fall over. Next I set ip the jig and turned the dial indicator down to check the height of the table rollers on my planer ( same set up used the check jointer knives). I lowered the table down all the way. I could adjust the infeed side but the top of the bar hit the out feed roller so I could not get the jig into the machine far enough to reach the table roller. I literally needed 1/8" more clearance...really?? It's not like I am trying to use this on a small lunchbox type planer. This is the jet jwp-15hh, a decent sized machine with 6" of planing depth. The tool is advertised to set up a planer!! The kit included two Allen bolts to put it together which is fine, but it also included two very cheap plastic thumb screw bolts that I think are to be used to attach the dial indicator to the bar. Needless to say these cannot even resist the weight of the dial indicator, leaving everything loose if you use them. This alone is not that big of deal, just use the regular Allen bolts. The included case full of tips are very roughly ground and you can tell they are super cheap the second you look at the package. While on the topic of the kit containing cheap parts, I come to the dial indicator. My biggest complaint of the whole package. It is a true POS. the throw arm on it is not smooth at all, many times during use on all three machines, I would make an adjustment to an error being read on the indicator to only realized that the bar had stuck in a position. I was constantly having to push or pull on it to unstick. Now I am not expecting a $200 indicator to be included in a$144 kit but if the whole point of the jig is accuracy it should be equal to my$30 indicator from woodcraft. I switched my dial indicator for the rest of the set up and it at least alleviated that problem part. The thing that really really really upset me about this is the instructions brag about using a cheap dial indicator. Stating that in tests, their indicator was capable of making the same readings as higher quality gauges but cost less. Capable yes but not without constantly moving the throw arm manually. They made a higher profit by cutting costs on the most important piece of this set. I am not sure if I would find more wrong with it if I tried to use it on my drill press or router but after wasting 4 hours of my time causing lots of frustration, I am done. Back it goes to amazon today and I will not even consider an a-line-it product EVER. When I was looking through the web for reviews on this before I bought it, some reviewers made the comment that a-line-it seemed like it had fallen into obscurity as of late. Well I now know why and am not suprised. In conclusion, I gave this two stars instead of one because the design has some potential to be great. Someone needs to just stop being cheap on parts. Even if it raised the cost. The kit as it stands is hardly worth $30 to me. No where near $150 quality. Hope this helps! ... show more

    • A blessing and a curse
This tool set me back days. I thought all my machines were just fine before the A-Line-It showed up at my house, but it didn't take long for this thing to enlighten me of my delusions. But, after several intense tuning sessions, I now know my machines are perfectly square, parallel, coplaner, etc. Being unfamiliar with the tool, it took me a little longer for me to learn the right way of doing things. This kit comes with a DVD, but wasn't helpful since I didn't have a DVD player around to be able to use it (they should really put the videos on their website or YouTube, but not enough of a criticism for me to not give this thing 5 stars). I was able to figure things out though by using the pictures on the box and reading the manual, but it definitely could have been easier. Thanks for the great tool and getting me dialed in...but, maybe warn people selling them something that is going to stoke their obsessive-compulsive tendencies. ... show more

I bought this to calibrate several tablesaws. Getting the table squared to the blade and the fences squared to the table. Seems fairly accurate. So my complaint isn’t the gauge as much as how it connects and operates The piece that rides the miter slot is WAY too sloppy to be usable. The screws that are supposed to take up the slop end up falling into the groove on the sides of the slot causing it to set crooked in the slot. Basically unusable. I have another piece that fit much better. Im using it on powermatic model 66 table saws. ... show more
