  • Good Quality, Works Great & Smooth Operation!
This is a good quality sewing and quilting machine. Compared to some other similar machines this one is more budget friendly and affordable and it seems to me that it works just as well. I have another sewing and quilting machine that cost a good amount more and this machine works just as well and seems to be just as well made and durable. This machine is essy to thread and the bobbin is easy to replace and refill when needed. I have thoroughly enjoyed using and testing this machine, it comes with several accessories also. I have used this machine for several projects and so far i have had no issues with the thread getting stuck in the machine. It works well with all types of fabric, the sewing needle choise will make a difference in how well the stitches turn out though also if you don't select the appropriate needle for the type of fabric you are using it can break. The machine looks nice and is easy to use and operate. It runs smooth and isn't to loud. The instructions are easy to read and follow and there's even a video that you can watch for more instructions on how to thread the machine and operate it. This is a great machine for both smaller and larger sewing projects. In my opinion this sewing & quilting machine is a good value and I would recommend this product! ... show more

  • A smooth, quiet mechanical machine
The 996P Mechanical Sewing Machine for Quilting with 36 Stitches is a nice unit overall. It has a bit of a vintage feel to it because it incorporates the three wheels at the top. I paid around two hundred thirty dollars for mine, which feels a bit high for a manual machine when you compare it to an entry‑level mechanical Brother or Singer model. Those brands are more widely known and usually come in at a lower price point. That said, this machine does offer some advantages over the mechanical units I have bought over the last decade. The extended table is the first noticeable upgrade. Most of my other mechanical machines do not include one, and an extended table makes quilting or larger projects easier to manage. The front storage compartment is also significantly larger than the ones on my other machines. It can hold extra presser feet, a small screwdriver, tiny scissors, and other items that tend to disappear right when you need them. Being able to keep everything in that drawer prevents the exasperated hunt that happens when those tools wander off. This machine advertises a superior interior. It may well be more metallic than the modern mechanical Singer or Brother models, which have become extremely lightweight because they rely heavily on plastic which invariably means they won't last long. I actually bought Two brothers at the same time last round because I knew, based on past experiences, that one of them was likely to break in the middle of a project right when I needed it most. I think I have had about three of them get out of timing alignment and, as a result of me being unable to fix timing at home and the local sewing repair person telling me that kind of machine isn't worth fixing, I have three useless current model machines. A huge amount of the older all‑metal machines from a hundred years ago or more are still running, and plenty of units from the 1950s through the 1970s are still coveted for the same reason. I did not feel comfortable opening the shell to inspect the interior myself, so I cannot confirm how much metal is actually inside. If you are newer to sewing, a mechanical machine is usually much less frustrating than a computerized one. There are fewer things that can go wrong, and mechanical parts are far more fixable than software issues or proprietary computer components that eventually become obsolete. I do a lot of repair work and specialty sewing for my workplace, and almost everything I need can be done with a straight stitch or a zigzag. Many computerized units have so many features that they become more irritating than helpful. For embroidery, I use a full computerized embroidery machine because that is what those machines are designed for. The computerized non‑embroidery units are not going to come close to what an actual embroidery machine can do anyway. A simple unit like this and a few minutes can eventually save you hundreds to thousands of dollars over your lifetime. I can hem all of my own pants, for example. As a short person, this saves me more than $10 a pair of pants (I'm basing that price on the 1990s, the last time I paid someone to do a simple hem). In the last few months I hemmed two pairs of pants, sewed the v in the front of two different dresses that were just a Little too low closed slightly, I resewed a separating neck line in a shirt, I made several reusable shopping bags from pillowcases and other inexpensive textiles, and I reinforced the waistband of a lovely dress which was developing a small separation. In addition I sewed some specialty textile necessities for my work which saves me several hundred dollars a year as well. If you look at all of the projects I have done with my sewing machine, you would probably have to be another seamstress or a fashion industry person to realize that they had even been done. This machine felt smooth when I used it and was quieter than some of my other units. Noise is not usually a major issue for me unless a machine is loud enough to drown out my accompanying podcast or TV show, and this one stayed well below that threshold. Overall, it is a pleasant mechanical machine with a few useful upgrades. The price is on the higher side, but the extended table and larger storage compartment do set it apart from the typical entry‑level mechanical models. ... show more

  • great for beginners in sewing and it really works quite well
This SewLaVie 996P Mechanical Sewing Machine is a versatile entry-level and everyday crafting machine available for $189.99. Built with a sturdy heavy-duty metal frame, it easily handles everything from basic home repairs and quilting to tougher fabrics like denim. It's not a heavy machine, so it's also a bit portable if you were traveling but still want to do repairs. I have never been much of a sewing person, but now with a kid I understand why knowing how to sew is important. Especially on favorite clothes plushies and pillows. Learning how to use this machine has been fun, it's simple and easy to use. I get scared a lot for things like these, does that make me a bit weak maybe, but I'm a cautious person. This has been a great machine to learn and work with. It features 36 built-in stitch patterns, adjustable stitch controls, a 4-step buttonhole function, and an integrated LED workspace light. The machine includes a detachable wide extension table for larger projects, as well as a free arm conversion for easy hem and cuff stitching. It comes fully equipped with essential accessories, including multiple presser feet, thread spools, bobbins, replacement needles, and a foot pedal controller. It offers a solid, beginner-friendly balance of structural durability and practical features for routine sewing tasks. ... show more

  • Good quality, easy to use
It has been many years since I've used a sewing machine, and even then, not very much. But thanks to the good illustrations in the instructions, and my vague memories, getting started was super easy, and I've been able to make several very useful adjustments to a camera bag, as I try to design my ideal setup. I have several other projects I've been eager to take on, and now I'm sew excited to get them started. The machine seems to have every feature I could need, and it works very well. Yes, at one point the needle did sort of get stuck, but that's because I had the tension too lose (a simple dial adjustment) and thread was piling up underneath. So that was my fault, and now I'm that much smarter. The machine seems like really good quality, and I appreciate its options for changing the size around the needle and foot and everything, which I absolutely needed to be able to get the job done. Also, the automatic needle threader is a dream! It looks nice as well. The simplicity of looking at it from the back, in fact, really makes it look like modern art. ... show more

  • A Reliable Powerhouse for Crafting Projects
I recently upgraded my crafting setup with this mechanical sewing machine, and it has handled all my recent quilting and sewing projects with total ease. The 60W motor provides a smooth, consistent stitch speed that punches through thick fabric layers and quilt batting without stalling or skipping stitches. With 36 built-in stitches to pick from, I have plenty of creative options for edging, seaming, and decorative work. The mechanical dials make selecting stitches and adjusting tension very intuitive, which keeps my workflow moving quickly. The included extension table provides a generous, flat surface that makes managing larger fabric pieces much easier. It runs smoothly on my desk, feels solid under heavy use, and comes with all the core accessory presser feet needed to start sewing right out of the box. ... show more

  • A solid, reliable machine that’s incredibly user-friendly!
Absolutely loving this sewing machine so far! As someone who does a mix of basic mending and occasional crafting projects, this machine has been a dream to use. It has a solid, heavy-duty metal frame, so it doesn't shake or slide around at all even when sewing at higher speeds. The initial setup was super straightforward, and the built-in LED light actually makes a huge difference for my eyes. It comes with 36 built-in stitches, which gives me plenty of decorative stitch options to play with. The storage compartment is also super handy for keeping extra bobbins and presser feet organized. It definitely feels like a high-quality machine that’s built to last ... show more

  • Love the detachable extension table and free arm!
This is a great, versatile machine for daily projects. The detachable extension table is an absolute lifesaver for larger fabric pieces, giving me that extra workspace I always need. Popping the storage tray off to use the free arm makes hemming pants and sleeves so much easier. It's surprisingly portable with the built-in handle, yet still feels very sturdy on the table. The automatic bobbin winder also makes prep work a total breeze. Very happy with this purchase! ... show more
